Anticipation has turned 50 this year! And she needs a HUGE facelift. We spent the last few years tackling some really big projects, but there's one more big hurdle before we can get this project signed off... Getting the boat painted! After the other boat we looked at failed the survey, we decided to use that money to go ahead and hire professional help to get this project DONE. And not only get it done faster, but at a much higher quality than we could do ourselves. HOWEVER, we still had to wrap up some of the work ourselves before we could get her ready for her appointment with the painting professionals! We had the yard use Awlgrip paints to move away from the outdated gel coat from the 1970s, as well as a new paint scheme to really make Anticipation stand out! What do you think of her new look?? Huge thanks to our friends over at @SailingPAPILLON for their assistance getting the boat moved (twice!) Our boat refit that includes a conversion to all electric needs a lot of solar panels. We are fitting four Victron 175watt panels to the guardrails (2 per side). So we have designed and built custom support arms that attach to our carbon fibre guardrails allowing the panels to swivel. All made with low cost materials. We are now living aboard full-time and want to get off-grid as soon as possible so we don't have to pay for boatyard electricity. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.p... Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc).

We were due. Between all our medical issues it was hard to get out sailing. We found three days and made a run for it. We set our course south looking to reach the Potomac River and then find a quiet anchorage to chill and relax. We found the perfect cove in Smith Creek where we splashed the anchor and sat back to relax. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset while sipping some refreshing wine before grilling some burgers for dinner. The next day we explored Smith Creek and stretched our legs on a deserted beach before returning to “Moments in Time” for lunch and some hull scrubbing. We relaxed, enjoyed a nice dinner and went to bed. We reluctantly weighed anchor the next morning and started our journey back to Solomons in rough waves and high winds on the nose. We had to be back, there was no leeway, so we sucked it up and pounded our way north. Nine hours later “Moments in Time” was safely secured in her berth and we made our way home. Our only regret was not staying longer. We are already planning a return trip. Subscribe and share in the adventure! Become part of the conversation by liking https://www.facebook.com/SV.MomentsInTime/ As always, please feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts.

Day 37, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: we’re heading towards the equator. I switch my damaged batteries to charge battery 3 hoping to bring it back to life. I 5200 holes in my sailor suit. And tell Casper it’s time to focus on the sail. It’s August 30th, 2025. We’re mid Atlantic, finally south of the ITCZ, heading towards the equator. 1,936 miles from The start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again.

Can you go barefoot on a boat? You can—but on most boats it’s a fast way to stub a toe on cleats, winches, blocks, tracks, and other deck hardware. In this video, we walk through how to choose safe boat footwear and how to tell if a shoe you already own will work. You’ll learn the boat-shoe essentials: siping (grooves for traction and water drainage), how to do a quick rubber softness test for grip, why boat shoes have a lifespan as rubber hardens, and how to avoid the classic mistake of tracking grit into your soles (especially on teak decks). We also cover offshore boots—including gaiter + bib setups designed to keep water out. #travel #boat #maintance #atlanticocean
