We are Alf and Jessica, learning to sail at age 50+. We have taken a leave of absence from our jobs and set sail on May 20, 2020 aboard our boat SV Taipan. Follow us if you fancy! The hardest part is building the shower. When the shower phase is completed, the Owners version conversion will start to shape up quickly! This is a massive project, but it will be will worth it in the end! Owners version catamaran sailboats are typically valued at 15-20 percent more than a charter version and even though our catamaran is older, we think this renovation is going to add a lot of value to our sailboat! This is a very big project! Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss next weeks video! Thanks for watching! This week on The Ocean Cruisers podcast we are speaking with Roberta & Duca from the Youtube Sailing & DIY Channel @OddLifeCrafting Roberta & Duca are from Brazil and have been living an alternative lifestyle for nearly 10 years, travelling the world and creating living spaces and documentaries. They started producing videos of their container home build before purchasing their first floating home. They recently bought a neglected 12 meter steel sailboat that had been on the hard for 20 years. They have completed a total refit of the boat, all the systems have been replaced, which has taken them over 2 years. They have now started their cruising life and have been recently spending time in their home country of Brazil hoping between anchorages and this coming season will be cruising north into the Caribbean to get some more experience and some passage miles. I was on deck gazing at the stars a few hours ago when I received the news that my mother just passed away. She was my inspiration. She never made it on board my boat. Everything I did in life was in part to make her proud. She has been suffering from dementia for a few years; like others, the last few years have been hard on her because of the isolation. She was an artist, author, public speaker, iconoclast, provocateur, and loved a good debate. I will miss her This video is to honor her and the last few months and years

Magic lies in the air of this episode, exploring the scenic “ocean finger” of the Ria de Muros y Noia and finding out what the camino de Santiago is all about. Join us on our exhibition to Santiago de Compostela and find out why our friend Nora – like many other pilgrims – challenged herself to walk the French path and what she experienced on her way. For anyone who has thought of doing one of the caminos, this is your chance to hear what it’s really like. Enjoy!

We went to Newtown Creek to hide from strong winds and spent a few days there but as we were there UK went into lockdown and we couldn’t leave the island. We spent about a month on the island and we used the opportunity to explore. On this video we take you on a little walk from Newtown Creek to Yarmouth which is a town, port and civil parish in the west of the Isle of Wight. The town is named for its location at the mouth of the small Western Yar river. After a very muddy walk we explored the town and got some diesel. We went to Ryde where we could see the extent of Ryde Sands as we got there on low tide. And finally we went to Ventnor a seaside resort and civil parish established in the Victorian era on the southeast coast of the island, built on steep slopes leading down to the sea. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset as we walked to Steephill Cove, a traditional, unspoilt fishing cove with a safe, sandy beach, nestled between rocky cliffs and smugglers' coves. Here’s another angle on the lovely afternoon of sailing we enjoyed a few days ago - taken with a GoPro this time. Seems to work pretty well. The boat too. :-). Rick.
