What a disastrous end to the season! When we thought we had seen the back of our bad luck we manage to pick up a discarded fishing net, rope and line as we enter the marina for the last time this year. Knowing we shouldn’t even be leaving Kejstral in Greece makes it all the more frustrating, all because 2 customs officials in Didim can’t read the law correctly and have turned us away! We knew it was serious the way the engine stopped DEAD, so it was no surprise when after being lifted out, the gearbox would need to be dismantled and repaired, along with a new cutlass bearing. We love Leros so despite this latest turn of events we hire a scooter and explore more of the island. Sadly we have to leave Kejstral and return to the UK for a few weeks, so she is now in the capable hands of Leros Marina! Umadum set sail for the next ocean crossing - from Brazil to Tobago. From he South Atlantic Ocean to the North Atlantic Ocean. It was about 2500 nautical miles from Salvador de Bahia to Tobago. The first 500 miles along Brazilian coast we had to tack hard on the wind against wind and current. Luckily our perfomance sailing catamaran is very light and sails well to windward. It was very light wind and it was easy without big waves. We knew it was a racing in progress from France to Brazil. It was Transat Jacques Vabre, the bi-annual double-handed 4,350-mile race, the longest and toughest transat in the sailing calendar, it took them from Le Havre to Salvador de Bahia. We met 5 or 6 of those racing boats. They were doing 15 to 20 knots, we made 8 to 10 knots. So as soon as you saw them on AIS first time – in the next 10 minutes they were here. A bit scary… especially at night. After the cape Cape São Roque we had south-easterly winds – it was from behind and it was easy sailing again. As nearer we came to the Intertropical Convergence Zone, where two weather systems meet, it was very squally weather. The wind picked up sometimes up to 35 knots and it was fast sailing. And then we has days and days with no wind and incredible heat – the typical doldrums pattern. After 15 days offshore sailing we made it to the Caribbean! We dropped our anchor in the Caribbean getaway Tobago in the lovely bay of Charlotteville. For us it was and it is the best island in the whole Caribbean. A pristine and unspoilt Caribbean gem. Friendly people, white beaches, wonderful music - Tobago steeldrums, good fishing. We went for a Tobago island tour to capture the beauty of this paradise. It’s the least touristy island in the caribbean and we loved it. And wait for one of our next films – you wil see the famous Tobago carnival. Sailing vessel Tapatya. After a blowy night in Nykskov, we set sail for the islands south of Zealand, before heading on to Vordingborg. These are EB's last sails on Tapatya for this year, as she hops on the train and leaves me to try my luck at singlehanding. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. At the time of writing, I've launched the boat and amn conducting sea trials. This coming winter, I'll be upgrading her based on what I've learnt and getting ready to sail further afield :) These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. La balade en voilier dans les Îles Éoliennes est très attrayante. Les îles offrent « la dolce vita » cependant il ne faut pas s’endormir sur ses lauriers «  ici ce n’est pas ce qu’il manque, les lauriers ». Les mouillages sont difficiles, beaucoup de roches et des fonds qui deviennent profonds très proche de la côte. Vous trouverez beaucoup de mouillage de beau temps et peu d'abris pour des éventuels coups de vent. Il vous faudra une semaine si vous souhaitez faire les trois principales Iles, Lipari, Vulcano, Stromboli. Croisez les doigts 🤞🏼pour que la météo Méditerranéenne vous laisse tranquille.. En attendant je vous embarque pour cette balade. La visite du monde n’attend pas, naviguer, bouger. À la fin de cet épisode je fuis un superbe mouillage, la Med m’a encore fait une farce.
