In this video we happen to experience a surreal moment on a beach where people actually pay $100 to swim with pigs ... really . We then sail down to Falmouth to explore the two harbours there. Wearing a VR headset, Grant stands at the helm of a twin-engine catamaran in a 3D marina environment. The controls behave like a real cat: independent throttles, wheel, forward and reverse, and the ability to split the engines for tight maneuvers. In this session, he: - Brings the catamaran into a tight fuel dock - Dials the wind up to 20 knots blowing off the dock - Uses split throttles to control heading and movement - Sets a spring line and uses engine thrust to bring the stern onto the dock - Shows how this can be done single-handed in a controlled, repeatable VR setting - The goal of this VR simulator is simple: let you practice docking techniques safely at home so that when you’re in a real marina—Croatia, Greece, Caribbean, or your local harbor—you already understand how the boat will respond. When in a tight marina, you will need to perform maneuvers exactly like this one and more. The absolute best way to ensure you can handle what nature throws at you is to practice. But how can you practice? The physics in real life is duplicated in this Virtual Reality training program. This is it – the very first sail on my new-to-me Grinde! I travel to Friesland to pick her up. The previous owner takes the time to walk me through the boat and explains how everything works: quirks of the rigging, the electrical system, the quirks of the BetaMarine engine, and all the little details only an owner knows. Then, together with my good friend Gwen, we sail her all the way back to my home marina in Muiderzand. The water is that deep, dark green typical of the IJsselmeer, the wind is strong and gusty, and honestly… I’m a bit nervous. It’s been a while since I last sailed a boat single-handed. Do I still remember how everything works? Reefing, trimming, docking – it all comes rushing back. Wir hissen die Segel auf unserem ersten Törn nach dem Refit 🚤⛵ Von Arbatax nach Santa Maria Navarrese – unser erstes Segeln mit renoviertem Boot als Familie. 👉 Abonniere den Kanal und begleite uns auf unserem Weg aufs Meer. Nach dem Kranen beginnt für uns ein besonderer Abschnitt: Wir hissen die Segel auf unserem ersten Törn nach dem Refit. Von Arbatax aus fahren wir nach Santa Maria Navarrese – in einen Hafen, der sich für uns sicher anfühlt und an dem wir Freunde haben. Hier bleiben wir erstmal, während Chris in den nächsten Tagen das Auto nach Deutschland bringt. Wir zeigen euch, wie wir das Boot vorbereiten, die Motoren starten und vom Steg ablegen. Beim Auslaufen verabschieden wir uns per Funk vom Hafen, holen die Fender rein und setzen zum ersten Mal unsere neuen Segel. Die Motoren gehen aus – und plötzlich segeln wir. Unsere neuen Segel in voller Fahrt zu sehen, ist ein Moment, auf den wir lange hingearbeitet haben. Es fühlt sich ruhig an, leicht und einfach richtig gut. Am Ende laufen wir in den Hafen von Santa Maria Navarrese ein, funken an und machen fest. Join us aboard SV Excelsior as we depart Galinhos, Brazil, and make our final coastal passage toward Lençóis to officially check out of Brazil. What begins as a straightforward sail quickly turns into an unforgettable leg of our South American adventure. After stopping in a small Brazilian port town for fresh provisions, we’re unexpectedly intercepted by the Brazilian Navy—a tense but eye-opening experience for any cruising sailor. Back underway, the seas turn bumpy, but Excelsior handles it like a champ as we push south past the mouths of Amazonian river systems. With nutrient-rich waters all around us, the fishing goes absolutely wild. Under Chui’s close inspection, Brodie lands mackerel after mackerel in one of our best fishing sessions yet. 🎣 The mood shifts when we encounter the aftermath of a fellow yachtsman running aground, a poignant reminder of the very real dangers of sailing unfamiliar waters along this remote coastline. Our journey ends with a short but sweet stop in Lençóis, marking our final farewell to Brazilian waters—a country that challenged, surprised, and welcomed us in equal measure. DJI hat sie tatsächlich ersetzt, nachdem sie auf der griechischen Insel Kithnos aufrund eines Softwarefehlers eine Notlandung auf dem Wasser machte und versank.
