So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. We have some lovely warm air this week so out comes the fibreglass and all those little niggling repairs I want to do get done. We start with the lockers and sealking thse up, or at least one of them. We also sand down and look at the cracks on the cabin top and fill loads of holes and cracks up with epoxy. Mit diesem Video startet eine kleine Serie, die genau das zum Inhalt hat, wie plant man so eine Reise, mit welchem Zeitaufwand muss man rechnen, welcher technischer Voraussetzungen bedarf es. In den nächsten Monaten werden auf diesem Kanal weitere Videos zu diesem Thema erscheinen, Besonderheiten, Entfernungen und Schleusentechnik einzelner Flüsse und Kanäle werden näher beleuchtet. Als wir vor unserer Reise zu diesem Thema recherchierten waren die Ergebnisse unbefriedigend. Ein Thema wird bewusst ausgeklammert, welche Scheine und Zulassungen werden benötigt, den das variiert von Land zu Land. Hier sollte sich man an die Schifffahrtsbehörden im eigenen Land wenden, um die richtige Antwort zu bekommen. Als Österreicher habe ich vor der Reise extra das "Schiffsführerpatent 10m für Seen, Flüsse und Wasserstraßen bis 10m", umgangssprachlich auch "Donaupatent" genannt erworben. Dazu hatte ich auch unser nationales UKW Funkzeugnis und die erforderliche Betriebslizenz. Unser Schiff Squib hat den österreichischen Seebrief, erst nach unserer Reise habe ich erfahren, dass auch noch eine Binnenzulassung nötig gewesen wäre. Auf beiden Reisen wurde ich kein einziges Mal danach gefragt, anders hätte es sicher ausgesehen wäre es zu einem Unfall gekommen.
