No sooner had he stepped ashore than our tester gave us his first impressions: “I’ve just tested the Cure 55. This is without doubt the most impressive performance cruiser I have sailed in years (and that’s not just because it’s Australian!) Fast, lightweight and quite maneuverable, this catamaran really has a lot to offer for 3.5 million Australian dollars.” In fact, the Cure 55 #1, which is the Performance version, is a sharp all-carbon catamaran that makes the most of its one-piece structure to keep its displacement down to just over 9 tons. The hulls are angled at 2.5° like the old Catanas, with very fine entry, slightly inverted bows, and daggerboards. The Hall Spars rig is obviously also in carbon, as is the Park Avenue boom that sits flush with the coachroof. The result? @the_reeva_project Sailing through Thailand’s most stunning islands with Mithun & Dee was an absolute blast! From the towering limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay to the crystal-clear waters of Koh Rok, this trip had it all—sail training, snorkeling, barbeque on a beach, and even a grounding incident! Enroute we practiced hand steering, tacking, and enjoyed endless laughs along the way. At Koh Lanta, a neighboring boat gifted us a 10kg bag of ice—so much that we had to store some in our water tanks! From there, we sailed to Koh Rok, where we reunited with Mukund, a former crew member who has since bought his own boat and is now sailing across Southeast Asia. Koh Rok’s crystal-clear waters and coral reefs were breathtaking, but we also witnessed a dramatic moment when another boat hit some coral—thankfully, with minimal damage. Our adventure with Mithun and Dee concluded with a relaxing beach day before they jumped ship to sail with Mukund while we continue in a different direction. RORC De Guingand Bowl Race 2025 Start: Saturday, 17th May 2025 Course: Cowes – Around Marks (82nm) Organised by: Royal Ocean Racing Club, in association with the Royal Yacht Squadron The RORC De Guingand Bowl Race marked the fifth race of the 2025 RORC Season’s Points Championship—the world’s largest offshore racing series. It also served as Round One of the IRC Two-Handed National Championship and the second event in the newly launched RORC Cowes Offshore Racing Series. With the hottest May in over 30 years, 71 teams took part in the race in sparkling conditions. The RORC fleet made for a spectacular sight as they raced east out of the Solent. Chris Frost’s Carkeek 40+ Amp-lifi claimed Line Honours and overall victory after IRC time correction. Second place went to Gery Trentesaux’s Ker 43 Long Courrier, while Chris and Vanessa Choules’ 37-year-old Sigma 38 With Alacrity finished third overall and took the win in IRC Four.
