Once again we rung in the New Year in Trinidad, this time not on our yacht, but at the nearby island of Gasparee where fireworks light up the night sky. From there it was straight back to boat work, getting our sailing catamaran ready for 2026. It's a year that has already brought great change, with new crew, and promises our biggest adventures yet! To help us get there Nino is back, everyone's favourite tradesman who initially came to Trinidad to help with our Leopard Catamaran warranty saga and ended up becoming Captain Nino, with his own sailing home and dreams of boat life. For anyone who's been following the progress of the custom carbon fiber table, this is the video where it is FINALLY installed - we are so happy with the outcome of this DIY carbon fiber project. 👉 SUPPORT THE STORY TELLING ⛵ Gain access to our member only area: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/join-in 😎 Tip jar: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE8A1d9Yabj4OA9AB After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran. This is one long work day in Port Protection, Alaska. We’re back under the house continuing the foundation repair after two trees came down on it and shifted everything. This is video 4… maybe 5 at this point… we’ve honestly lost track. Today turns into one of those full days where you’re just in it. A lot of snow shoveling. A lot of moving heavy posts. A lot of standing there looking at something, talking it through, and then trying it anyway. We deal with the post under the house that is not actually holding anything up....so that's interesting. We take it out and work toward putting something in that actually does. From there it’s just steady problem solving. Lifting, trimming, adjusting, rethinking, trying again. Nothing is perfectly straight, nothing fits exactly right, and every step leads to another decision. Scott’s figuring it out in real time. Audrey’s filming, questioning, and occasionally helping (or making it more complicated, depending who you ask). Some of it feels solid. Some of it feels a little questionable. Most of it is just working through it. Somewhere in the middle of all this it starts to feel like an episode of The Office… just with heavier materials and colder weather. This isn’t a how-to. It’s just what it looks like to be in it. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Snow Dump + Start of the Day 01:00 How Much Weight Was on the Roof 02:00 Looking at the House Shift 03:30 Trying to Understand the Sag 05:00 No Blueprint, Just a Plan 06:30 Talking Through Options 08:00 Concrete + Rebar Decisions 09:30 Shoveling Heavy Snow 11:30 Snow Sliding Back Down 13:00 “This Is a Workout” 14:30 Clearing Access to the House 16:00 Quick Break + Regroup 18:00 Back Under the House 20:00 Looking at the Post Setup 22:00 Planning the Base + Footer 24:00 “Plumb” vs Level 26:00 Marking + Drilling 28:30 Setting Rebar + Adhesive 32:00 Prepping the Post 34:30 First Lift Attempt 37:00 Trying to Set It 40:00 Doesn’t Fit 43:00 Getting the Post Back Out 46:00 What Needs to Change 49:00 Cutting + Adjusting 52:00 Resetting for Round Two 55:00 Post Drops Into Place 58:00 Checking Plumb 1:00:00 Explaining the Gap 1:02:00 First Post Set 1:04:00 Noticing a Crack 1:06:00 Talking Materials + Choices 1:08:00 Planning Next Steps 1:10:00 Tools + Cleanup 1:12:00 Setting Temporary Support 1:15:00 Jacking the House Slightly 1:18:00 Positioning Support Post 1:21:00 Driving It In 1:24:00 Adjusting Placement 1:27:00 Locking It In 1:30:00 Adding Stability 1:33:00 Final Adjustments 1:36:00 Getting Everything Solid 1:39:00 Stepping Back + Checking Work 1:42:00 End of Day Thoughts 1:45:00 End

#sailing #sailinglifestyle #adventure #windedvoyage #africa #caboverde Yes, I got an anchor tattoo. Which symbolizes or says I sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. Which I accomplished a couple of years ago. I’ve been wanting to do that for a while now and finally did it after a bumped into local tattoo artist, Gringo. Twice in a short time. I took it as a sign to go for it. And I’m glad I’m marked inside and out of that experience. The new year was approaching and it was time to celebrate. Turneffe makes for an ideal location to host our Belize Freediving Workshop and Snorkeling tour. Aside from the beautiful reefs and clear waters, there are a number of protected areas to explore with varying depth levels. Throughout the course of this freediving workshop, there will be lectures, training sessions in the resort's pool, and in-water practical sessions with our Freediving Instructor Emma, all of which will give you time and opportunity to improve your skills. We'll be based at Turneffe Island Resort for the duration of the tour. We'll be accompanied by a freediving expert (Emma Farrell) and an assistant, who both bring along a wealth of experience. All this is, of course, combined with plenty of time for snorkeling over the reefs at your leisure.

In this September Market Insights episode, Sue Grant is joined by Magnus Kullberg, Managing Director of Berthon Scandinavia, to reflect on the yacht market as the season changes. With Cannes and Newport Boat Shows behind us and Annapolis ahead, both events were quieter than expected for immediate deals, though valuable for gauging trends and client interest. This month’s key insights: 1. Cannes and Newport were information-gathering, not deal-making. 2. Brokerage enquiries are well up on 2024 levels. 3. Marketing teams are flat out as new listings swell stock. 4. Sweden is seeing a rebound after a slow August. 5. Buyers are focusing on value, ignoring overpriced yachts. 6. Owners should heed broker advice when offers arrive. 7. Custom yachts are out of favour in today’s price-sensitive market. The message across the group is clear: the market is active yet disciplined, with serious buyers stepping forward, price sensitivity dictating movement, and residual value under close watch. Thanksgiving weekend in Southeast Alaska turned into something unforgettable. Living aboard our sailboat, Alaskan Gypsy, we set out on a remote paddleboard-assisted blacktail deer hunt...no roads, no crowds, just wilderness. This trip marked a huge milestone: Audrey’s first deer ever, and our first successful hunt as a family living this lifestyle full-time. From frosty mornings and glassy water to quiet moments of gratitude and respect for the animal, this wasn’t just a hunt, it was a rite of passage. We call it Blacktail Friday… and yes, it really was a BOGO. This is what subsistence, simplicity, and living in tune with nature looks like for us in Alaska. 🎥 Filmed entirely while living aboard our sailboat 🦌 Blacktail deer | Southeast Alaska 🛶 Paddleboard-assisted access ❄️ Late fall wilderness conditions If you’re interested in off-grid living, hunting, boat life, or learning alongside a first-time hunter - Welcome Aboard! To learn more about Keane Insurance and to seek your bespoke boat policy check them out here - https://keanespecialty.com/get-a-quote?pid=YSN When we first begun this project, of re-powering Nandji 2 many big decisions had to be made. The biggest of them all of course is — what engine do we trust for the next 10 years of sailing? For us, it was simple. We never like to do jobs half arsed, so lets Go all in.The Yanmar 4JH110, more power, better efficiency, and the kind of reliability you want when its 50 knots and your a lee to shore. But before we could install our new Yanmar… the engine room needed a complete refit. The old seized engine had to come out but blocking its removal… was our generator. An ageing Cummins Onan 6.5kW generator and whilst it is Still running, still useful… that is debateable . So the question is, Should it stay? Or is it time to let it go? Should we put the generator back in? Because the real question is do you actually need a generator on a cruising boat? And more importantly… do we?
