Separado, morando sozinho num pequeno barraco, com os filhos morando muito distante (dois no Canadá e a caçula em Paraty) já estava aceitando a vida sedentária. Fazia minhas cainhadas diárias e dançava eventualmente. O restante do tempo era ocupado com leitura, rede social e televisão. Em 2022 fui visitar seus filhos no Canadá e meu filho mais velho tinha comprado um pequeno veleiro para navegar no lago de Montreal. Então, num passeio nessa pequena embarcação, meu filho iniciou um diálogo mais ou menos assim: - Velho! Você já foi um grande aventureiro por que não faz mais uma aventura? - Que aventura, cara! – respondi. - Vir de Veleiro do Brasil até o Canadá. Você precisa sair de casa. Precisa de objetivos de vida. - Você está louco? Nunca naveguei e não tenho dinheiro para comprar um veleiro! – retruquei. - Você não tem uma Previdência Privada? - Sim. Tenho. Mas ela é para quando eu ficar velho. É para minha saúde – respondi. - Mas você já não está velho? (emitiu uma sonora gargalhada). Então você retira esse dinheiro e compra um veleiro. Comece a estudar, assistir vídeos e ler livros. Depois você vende o veleiro e repõe a grana. A sugestão do filho foi como um trauma mental para seu velho pai. A partir desse dia aprender sobre velas tornou-se minha obsessão. Tudo na na minha vida foi relacionado à navegação. Comecei a devorar livros e assistir todo tipo de vídeo no YouTube. No primeiro semestre de 2023 tirei a habilitação da Marinha para navegar em lagos (pré-requisito para as demais). No segundo semestre consegui a carteira de Mestre Amador e, finalmente, em abril de 2024, conseguiu a mais temida e difícil prova aplicada pela Marinha do Brasil: Capitão Amador. O material de estudo para essa prova foi enorme. Vários livros, apostilas, curso grátis no YouTube e sites pagos. Havia dias que o velho pensava que seria impossível passar na prova. Coisas estudadas era rapidamente esquecida pela memória sexagenária. A grana para compra do Veleiro estava resguardada. Era só esperar o momento oportuno. Entretanto, restava-me, ainda uma questão muito importante: equacionar os custos da viagem com sua pequena aposentadoria. A conclusão foi que a grana seria insuficiente, principalmente quando as despesas fossem em outra moeda. Para piorar, descobriu que chegando ao Canadá, seria muito difícil voltar no mesmo caminho, tendo em vista que existe uma corrente marítima contrária. O caminho de volta mais fácil teria que ser pela Europa e África. Ou seja, gastar em euros. O visto para entrada em cada ilha ou país corresponderá a um quarto da minha renda, sem contar comida, óleo diesel e manutenção no veleiro tudo em dólar ou Euro. Apesar dos estudos orçamentários indicar a inviabilidade do projeto, no dia 14/10/24 mudei para um veleiro adquirido na cidade de Salvador. O planejamento da viagem estima dois anos de vida ao mar, cujo planejamento pode ser verificado nos dois primeiros vídeos do canal “Veio Doido no Mar” no YouTube. Pretendo navegar pela costa brasileira, passar pelas Ilhas do Caribe, passar pelo Canadá, Europa e África. Em torno de 18 meses viajando.

Trois semaines à attendre un colis à Fakarava 😱 Cela fait maintenant trois semaines que nous attendons notre colis à Fakarava. Trois semaines à scruter chaque jour le ciel, comme si un avion allait surgir entre deux nuages pour nous livrer enfin ce fichu paquet. Le contenu ? Une simple commande depuis la France, mais pas si simple en réalité : 3 batteries lithium pour notre drone puis 2. Et en Polynésie française, c’est un véritable parcours du combattant. DHL a refusé l’expédition à deux reprises. Les batteries lithium, pourtant parfaitement emballées, ne passent pas leurs filtres de sécurité. Trop risqué, nous dit-on. Quant à Chronopost, après mille promesses et formulaires, la livraison s’est perdue dans le triangle des Bermudes administratif.😱😱 Pendant ce temps, le Sea Pearl reste à l’ancre dans le lagon turquoise de la passe nord de Fakarava. Le lieu est splendide, c’est vrai — les requins, les coraux, les couchers de soleil. Mais au bout d’un moment, même le paradis a un goût d’attente frustrée quand on dépend d’un colis bloqué à 15 000 kilomètres. après cette interminable attente, cap sur Tahiti. Deux jours de navigation tranquille, vent portant, mer d’huile. À notre arrivée à Papeete, nous louons une voiture pour changer d’air. Pendant deux jours, nous faisons le tour de l’île. C’est aux cascades des Trois-Rivières que la magie opère. Au bout d’un sentier glissant, après une marche dans la moiteur de la forêt tropicale, la fraîcheur de l’eau et la force du lieu nous coupent le souffle. Les chutes grondent, la nature règne, verte, vivante, souveraine. On oublie les colis, les batteries, les transporteurs. Ici, tout est plus lent. Tout prend le temps. Et peut-être que c’est bien ainsi.😍🌴🌴😍

Ever since Mark Richards acquired the famous Wild Oats XI -following a three year hiatus from the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race - the challenge to complete the major upgrades to what is now named Palm Beach XI has made for a race against time to the starting gun on Boxing Day. We spoke to Mark Richards at Woolwich Dock, one week prior to the race start and shortly after Palm Beach XI had been christened and relaunched. Mark explained the rationale behind the new daggerboards, the lengthened keel, the dramatic C foils, stern elevator foils and the flatter sails. He also described the two year campaign program for the boat (both overseas and back in Australia) after this year’s race south. In closing the overview he acknowledged the vital role that Wild Oats XI’s owner Bob Oatley had played in the opportunity to realise this new dream for a world famous yacht.
