¡Por fin cambiamos al Litio! Un increíble avance.

After years of problems with our many water pumps on Fair Isle, unreliability, noise and constant maintenance, we were impressed when we came across the display of Marco pumps at METS in Amsterdam this year. They had all their pumps hooked up to pump water, lots of water! They were whisper quiet in operation, seemed to move enormous amounts of water with great pressure and had no flimsy rubber and plastic parts. These are 'gear pumps' made with bronze gears, no rubber diaphragms that have to be bashed up and down by cams until they self destruct! We don't accept payment for producing these review type videos as we think that would turn us into salespeople, but we did get a deal on this pump from Marco at the show so YT require us to reflect that and tick the promotions box. In all honesty, we would have bought one of these pumps in any case. We may not have gone for the biggest model as we do have to watch our spending and these pumps are not cheap. But we have been through four pumps in 9 years on Fair Isle have had to buy boxes of spares in between to keep them running, so that adds up to a significant expense as well. Also, we have had 9 years of having to put up with noisy inefficient pumps so frankly we wish we had spent the money earlier. You may have seen in the episode when we fitted this pump that it detected there was a problem with the boat's system. Air was somehow getting in to the system at the manifold and was being fed to the pump. This had probably contributed to some of the problems we had had in the past so it's good that the Marco pump is clever enough to show there is a problem. It seems gear pumps are more sensitive to air getting into the system and the pump will shut down and give you a warning light. This allowed me to find the problem, a stuck one way valve on the outlet of our water manifold, and fix it ( I just removed it, the Marco pump doesn't need it.) It also doesn't need the accumulator which is good because that's just another thing to go wrong. We are on our second. So If you're fed up with inferior pumps then Marco is a great option. Un mouillage réputé pour être bondé… presque vide 😳 Et très vite, on comprend pourquoi il attire autant de navigateurs. Alors, est-ce vraiment le paradis pour les voileux ? 👉 Tout dépend finalement de ce que l’on recherche… On va en profiter… mais aussi réparer ! ⚓ Bienvenue dans la vraie vie en voilier, entre petites galères et moments incroyables. On est à Musket Cove, à Malolo Island dans les îles Mamanuca à Fidji… et surprise : à peine une quinzaine de bateaux dans ce mouillage immense. Un de ces endroits où les bateaux s’entassent, un peu comme Taïna à Tahiti, Taiohae aux Marquises ou Sainte-Anne en Martinique… La saison cyclonique a commencé 🌪️ et on profite de cet endroit incroyable… presque pour nous. Mais derrière le décor de carte postale, il y a la réalité du bateau ⚙️ Pomper l’eau dans les fonds de cale… encore et encore. Une petite entrée d’eau au niveau de la bague du safran — rien d’alarmant, mais suffisant pour nous rappeler qu’il faudra s’en occuper quand le bateau sera à sec. Et puis il y a… les WC 😬 Sujet universel, inévitable 😂 Tom démonte tout, remplace presque tout… sauf LA pièce qui fuit 💦 Résultat : on ferme le passe-coque et on utilise les autres WC. Heureusement qu’on en a deux… même si ça veut aussi dire deux fois plus de problèmes 😅 Et pour la petite anecdote… je suis tombée dans le trou 😂 (pas celui des WC… celui des fonds de cale) On met ensuite le cap sur Mana Island, en passant une passe étroite avec les coraux juste sous la quille… impressionnant ! Et puis le vrai objectif : le snorkeling 🤿 Une vie marine incroyable, des paysages irréels… Depuis les Tonga, je traîne une douleur entre les côtes. Je sais que je devrais faire une pause… Mais ici, impossible de résister. Alors je replonge. Encore. Et encore. À observer, filmer, attendre le bon moment… J'ai passé des heures dans l'eau ! Parce que c’est ça, au fond, la vie en voilier : 👉 des petits problèmes du quotidien… et juste à côté, des moments d’une beauté incroyable. We have just returned to something like civilization after three weeks without internet, cell service, stores, shops, or anything remotely resembling the western world. It was incredibly relaxing. We met beautiful people and saw stunningly beautiful sights. I'm looking forward to sharing the journey. In this episode we cross the Bligh Water on our way to Savusavu. It is Sayo and the kids' first open ocean crossing since we've been in Fiji. (They are veterans now after we sailed 188 miles overnight back to Savusavu. That video is still to come.) In Savusavu we stumbled across the Miss Savusavu pagent and JD and I found some friends to ride the Ferry's wheel with. (That is not a spelling error, they actually call it the Ferry's wheel.) And Miya attended her first concert! I had fun with this video. I hope you enjoy it. We're back in cell service for a bit and I'm looking forward to sharing more.

Highlights of our 1,200-mile sail from New Zealand to Fiji in May, 2017, aboard the sailing vessel Avalon. We left Marsden Point Marina (NZ) under sunny skies. Over the next 8-9 days, we faced some big wind, rain, and seas. But we were also becalmed for a couple days, floating in a completely flat and glassy South Pacific Ocean. It was eerie and unforgettable. (We don't carry enough fuel to just motor any time we want.) We finally arrived at Vuda Marina, Fiji, wearing big smiles and ordering pina coladas for breakfast!
