The strike was devastating — it wiped out almost every electrical system onboard. It’s haul-out time for ARGO. In this episode we lift ARGO out of the water and onto the hard stand for her annual maintenance. After a good power wash, Jason gets started on what should have been a simple job – changing the sail drive oil. But things quickly take a turn. When the oil comes out milky, it’s a sign every boat owner dreads – water has entered the sail drive, and that usually means an expensive repair. Thankfully we find a fantastic marine mechanic on site who helps track down the problem and get things sorted. While he’s at it, we finally solve a nagging issue we’ve been having with the anodes. Not exactly the start we planned for this haul out… but that’s boat life. In the next episode the real work begins – Jason takes on sanding the hulls himself in preparation for antifoul and Prop Speed. The pressure is on to get a professional result. Thanks for watching. After spending the last three weeks on the hard – and some big life changes on land – we were more than ready to get back where we belong… on the water. This marks the start of Season 3 of Sailing ARGO as we begin making our way back up the Queensland coastline. We ease back in with a quick overnight stop at St Helena Island (just south of the Brisbane River) before setting off on a 120nm, 21-hour overnight sail toward one of Australia’s most well-known coastal challenges – the Wide Bay Bar. This time, the crossing was a dream compared to the 3m swell we faced on our last attempt. Even better, we got to share the experience alongside our old friend, SV Trim. After the long push, we dropped anchor at Garry’s Anchorage, K’gari, where a couple of calm nights and much-needed sleep reminded us exactly why we love this life. It feels so good to be back. Rocio is relatively new to sailing Snipes but just like her sister Trixy, they got a love of the boat from their dad who's been sailing Snipes for many years. There's a little bit of rivalry between the sisters and racing Snipes is a good way to make that rivalry fun. Rocio likes the sharing of information that's a part of sailing Snipes, even at this level at the Women's Worlds. There's a lot of using your head to get the boat around the course, but at the end of the day, you know you've accomplished something.

Happy Valentine's Day! My first attempt at composite video for a special someone. ....I'm on my way! (Please forgive the clumsiness. I struggled my way through this using Lightworks on a computer from 2008! Special thanks to the Lightworks forum for helping me through some issues. The composite video of the ukulele appears a few seconds late, even though it's edited to appear earlier. According to Lightworks support, this is a known issue that "is fixed in the forthcoming v11.5.1 beta (due very soon)." So eventually I might have to re-export and upload a new video, and delete this one.) (I'm also a novice at audio recording, so apologies for all of the mic clipping. I did what I could to reduce that after the fact....) (Aaaaaand for you musicians out there, apologies for my tuning, rhythm, etc.)
