About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water. Short movie created by our cruise director Alex for Triton Bay divers resort using mixed footage from his trips onboard the Seven Seas and Triton Bay Divers. Triton Bay is far away and quite isolated. This makes it one of the few gems left in the underwater world and has become one of the favorite spots for many underwater photographers/videographers. Modifying Keene’s Dredge so that we can travel 60 miles up the river to some fantastic gold reserves. This gives us the availability, to sleep and live on the dredge/boat, while we travel up the river, taking test samples at multiple sites to work out the best locations. We can travel at about seven knots, which is great, it’s fantastic for us, it means against the current we can get about 3 to 4 knots. And on the return trip get up to 10 knots. The availability to have shade and shelter from the elements is fantastic. Huge tropical storms, won’t affect us, as we can seek shelter, so this is fantastic. Another thing is the availability to have a nice sleep at the end of the day with room to move around. We can also take large amounts of extra fuel and water, which means we can have an extended range and stay. All in all a fantastic upgrade for us. With a dream to sail the Atlantic one day, Maryanne (Scotland) met Kyle (USA) in 2002 and setting abut turning her dream into reality. They kicked their adventures on a 25 foot monohull on Lake Eerie and 19 years later they have not only crossed together but have also crossed the Pacific 5 times and have spent the last decade as live aboard cruisers. They share the tales of their travels including the strangest Customs border clearance ever experienced, in a tiny coastal town in Ireland. They also share the sad story of the loss of their brand new catamaran in a storm, when a lee shore anchorage pushed them aground on the coast of Italy and the stress of flying home to the USA to find a replacement yacht and decided to restart their adventures on an 2001 Fountaine-Pajot Athena 38 named Begonia, which they live on today. Welcome back to the channel! In this episode, I’m sharing a progress update on our lovely project boat. Be sure to watch, Tearing Out The Galley | Boat remodel EP 51 to find out what happens! To kick things off we discovered some dry rot wood on the bulked that’s separating aft locker from the galley. Since this is my first time tackling dry rot in the galley, I decided to seek the advice of a Master Marine Carpenter. He recommended that I remove the damaged portion of the existing bulkhead and replace it with a patch. Then, sister a new piece of marine-grade plywood to the bulkhead, which helps to add additional strength and support. This may sound easier said than done, but the goal is after we figure out how to remove tabbing, we can then measure and cut to remove the rot properly. It will take a little creativity on our part, and the right tools to get this project done right. How would you have handled the dry rot differently? Its a mirky day and funny things happening down at Lake Bala. I went looking for Mochyn Du's trailer, to check it was OK as we're nearing the end of the season. However I couldn;t find it anywhere. I later find out it's actually been hidden in broad daylight. It had been painted, changed and moved. So obviously someone had been "borrowing" it or they intended on taking it, i'm not sure really.
