WHY we travel by SAILBOAT | Sailing Martinique | 97 | Beau and Brandy Sailing There is nothing else that we love more than picking up anchor to travel to a new spot to discover what it has in store for us there. We are always surprised about all the different things we have seen so far in this sailing life. The underwater life, the hiking, the sailing, the people, the new friends. Each anchorage brings something new. Could we experience this if we were just taking a plane to these places? Sometimes we can only reach the places we do by the boat. This episode we visit Anse dufour and Anse Noir, we dive and and explore underwater and the black sand beaches. We pick up anchor and have a sporty sail into Fort de France and are welcomed by a local parade. Hope you enjoy! #sailingsaoirse #sailingthecaribbean #martinique big love, beau, brandy, and our salty dog, oona ____________________________________________________________________ Like what you see and want to pitch in for our next video 🎥 upload: http://bit.ly/one-time-donation-bb Want even MORE? Let's look in depth at out yacht anchoring technique step by step, the anchoring technique we use everytime to ensure we're holding firm and won't drag. It's our tried and tested technique that has so far safely got us around the world for over 20,000 nautical miles without once dragging. We look at our trusty Rocna anchor, look at scope - how much anchor to put out - pulling back to test the anchor, using transit lines to check hold, use of an anchor snubber, and more. If you have any other tips and tricks for anchoring, we'd love to hear them in the comments below! - - Music acknowledgements - - Intro: Almost Famous Band - Mas que nada (Cover) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please support us to help inspire others to live their dreams, become a Patron at www.patreon.com/SailingTranquilo Patrons receive - more frequent videos - extended videos - free gifts Visit our website for more information about our trip and our yacht: http://www.tranquilo.me Check out our latest sailing around the world photos on Instagram and Facebook: Instagram: @sailing_tranquilo (http://instagram.com/sailing_tranquilo) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tranquilo.me

All couples fight. All couples on boats fight. And the cause of most of these fights? Mooring and anchoring. Palmerston Island has the most interesting history. First discovered by Captain James Cook in 1774 it was settled in 1863 by Englishman William Marsters along with his 3 Polynesian wives and 23 children. Today the island is still owned and run by the direct descendants of William Marsters with the exception of the nurse, teacher and church minister! The islanders show incredible hospitality to the steady stream of yachts that visit here every year, providing mooring buoys and lunch with your host family ashore everyday. Seeing as they have no shops and only two supply ships visit every year, the yachts are a great source of both supplies and entertainment for the locals. Possibly one of the most unique places on the planet - enjoy experiencing our visit with us! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.

We’re on the hunt for our next boat! We’re looking for a trimaran that’s big enough to live on for several weeks to a month+ at a time, but still small enough to trailer. It’s been tough — if not impossible! — to find. So far most of the boats we’ve seen have been too small in one dimension or another, so in this episode, we try to go BIGGER. Hope you enjoy! Part 2 of our SSL meet-up with SV DELOS series finds us welcoming Brian and Brady aboard SOPHISTICATED LADY to present them with the new Grenada flag we picked up for them to sport on DELOS... the original plan for the first day was to go diving, but timing didn't work out so everyone went for a hike in the rainforest to visit the Seven Sisters waterfalls instead... a beautifully inspiring place in Grenada, and source of much fun had by both crews! Follow that up with a birthday party for our guest Bill from Alaska, and you just know we had a great day! This video edited by Brenden Moore... We're back to work on our boat this week, and making progress in a very important area - the steps!! ** If you want to help out with Fish For a Cure, click here!! https://www.fishforacure.org/ *** For the last 18 months, each time we've wanted to get from the bridge deck into the hull we've had to slide down the chamfered panel. But, that stops now as Matt begins working on our three sets of stairs leading into both hulls. I also revisit an update where I show the work I've been able to accomplish lately with fairing, and how I've fallen in love with the 3M lightweight body filler as it also works as a guide coat, telling me where I need to add more filler. Lastly, we begin to install PVC pipes to eventually run conduit through. Not really our first choice in products, but sometimes you just can't get the supplies you were really hoping for and just need to move forward instead. We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! A common issue with Yanmar Marine Engine panels is that they lose their LCD engine hour readings after a few years. As this is not a commonly serviceable part you are faced with either installing a new panel at $800 and resetting your engine hours, or adding a new engine hour meter, which is a clunky fix. There is however a simple $30 fix which with few tools will have your engine hour meter back and running after an hours work. The link to the part is here: http://www.akspeedo.com/vdo-lcd-repair.php The website states that this should also work for Volvo LCD panels. Thanks for watching! Sailing up to Cape York, the remote northern tip of Australia, dodging reefs and shipping in the trade winds. This year I was invited to be a judge for the inaugural Rossinavi Design Challenge, an Award created to encourage young designers to think of innovative new yacht designs that could be offered for sale by Rossinavi. I have to admit that I felt a weight of responsibility towards the designers who had put so much work into their projects! The Design Challenge trophy was awarded at the SeaTec Exhibition last week, and I had a film crew on hand to help me record the event and show you some of the wonderful applicants.

The sword fishing boats in the Messina strait have to be seen to be believed, with a 30 meter high tower and an even longer bow sprit both with men perched precariously at the ends you get the feeling fact is stranger than fiction. And to get to the Messina strait we sailed through Sicily and its volcanic islands so we had already run the gauntlet of the large floating rocks. I kid you not, rocks the size of our table that would take lumps out of the gel coat floating in the ocean. The strangeness of pumice. We cover a lot of ground in this episode, sailing from Sardinia to Sicily and is amazing Aeolian Islands, then on the Italy. #Ferrari308 #ClassicFerrari #Ferrari308Review Ferrari 308 QV GTS Euro Review! An Owner’s perspective! A couple of years ago we decided to go for something a little different in the garage and found this 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole Euro spec car locally. We have been getting to know this wonderful little car ever since. Ferraris are very different to the Porsches in our garage and a fun change of pace 😊 It is a good, solid car that combines amazing looks with fun and engaging performance and the wonderful Ferrari sound! In this video, we take you out for a ride to give you our impressions and then for a tour of the interior and engine bay. We hope to give you a perspective from an owner and not just someone who has stepped into the car for the first time. The 308 is a classic beauty that has the perfect balance of the angular shapes of the time but with the beautiful curves Pininfarina is so famous for. Performance is on a par with the era it was built and has held up really well over the years. Valuations have increased recently, but it is still quite accessible so if you are looking for an entry into the Ferrari brand, this is an excellent choice! We hope you enjoyed the video. If you did, please give it a “Thumbs up” and Subscribe to Heidi and Franny’s Garage for more videos to come. If you are planning a trip down the Intracoastal Waterway or ICW here is a tip for dealing with overtaking traffic. Wait till they get up close astern then slow your boat right down. This allows the overtaking vessel to slow as well and pass you with the least wake. We found boaters to be very courteous and friendly. Traveling the ICW can be a very sociable trip. You will meet some new friends for sure! This week we’re hydroseeding our property for the very first time. The challenge? We’ve never run this type of machine before, and we only had one day to figure it out before returning the rental. I think everyone should have Strapinno ratchet straps in their vehicle! To get your hands on this amazing product click here: https://amz.cx/3Vor And check out Strapinno's website here: https://strapinno.com/ Hydroseeding is a complicated process, and we were nervous about messing it up. From learning the controls on the fly to troubleshooting problems as the clock ticked down, this project definitely pushed us out of our comfort zone. But this is what our whole journey is about—our family learning each step as we turn raw land in the Smoky Mountains into a home of our own. Every project feels huge, every deadline feels impossible, but little by little we’re making progress. Join us in this episode as we take another step forward—and see if we can actually pull it off before the clock runs out. New to the channel? S#*t is about to go down, and we've got a front row seat. Support Production and get bonuses like early access to videos, private live chats, and bonus material by becoming a Patron! https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing After completing the bill of sale on our boat and spending a few days relaxing (and packing) while up the River Fal, we come back to town to wait out a nasty storm coming our way, only to find out the marinas are packed full. The only safe place we can now be....is the same spot we just came from. Expecting 50 knot winds, and dealing with 18 ft tides, we let out 175 ft of chain right in the middle of the river (we had the harbour master's approval for this), since this was the only spot that would offer us enough swing room. But, as boats kept pouring in to find a secure spot, it was obvious that things were going to get tight. Thankfully we did not encounter any issues through the night, but as we watched the boats around us, we found out they were not as lucky. Much love from Cornwall! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
