A look at planing tack and non planing tack

What a difference in the sailing weather. From clear blue skies and light winds, to minimal visibility and reefed sails and hearing but not seeing the lighthouse! Friends and family have joined me this week, but I`ve also had time for some good solo sailing, the odd bit of maintenance and my own take on a safety feature has been fitted following on from an overheard PanPan last week.

Étant au mouillage depuis une dizaine de jours, sans contact direct avec la rive, nous nous interrogeons sur sa présence inusité... In this episode I introduce the First Mate to sailing. This was Fatima's first time on our sailboat and her first time using a tiller. We had a nice day with average winds which was good for me to explain how the sheets, sails and wind vane work in conjunction with the wind. The First Mate struggled a bit with the tiller in the beginning where you push/pull in the opposite direction you want the boat to go. It is time for another update. We are currently facing a list of tasks that seems to get longer and longer and longer and longer. A winch is not working properly, some material is delayed, a broken backrest needs fixing, marking the anchor chain and and and. Well, seems like this is what "glamorous boat life" is all about. Chasing a dream that is scary and yet beautiful. Even though some things are not working as anticipated, we are enjoying the ride! The Layla Del Mare Project is so much more than "just a boat". It is our goal to build a fully self-sufficient catamaran, incorporating the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and showing all of the UAE and abroad that there is a life on the water waiting for you, you just have to dare to jump!
