IN THIS VIDEO: After getting some warranty work done at Zimmerman's Marina, we stop in Hampton, VA to take care of some appointments before heading to a family reunion and birthday in Smithfield, VA. We tie up along the dock at Smithfield Station Marina for a couple of days. We must have been the first big catamaran to stay there because we certainly got a lot of looks and comments! We had a party on the boat for our family, and everyone enjoyed playing with the SUPs and pedalboard, while the little kids had a blast jumping through the cabin overhead hatches on to our bed, and then running back on deck to do it all over again! Unfortunately, the reunion ended, and we started planning our trip to New York City, NY. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, sold everything that we owned, and shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa. We then flew there and explored South Africa by way of a safari and touring Cape Town before moving aboard our boat. We then sailed to Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha (Brazil), Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French side), the US Virgin Islands (Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas), the British Virgin Islands (Anegada, Norman Island, Jost van Dyke, and Anegada), The Bahamas (Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, the Exumas, and Eleuthera). We then sailed back to the United States, making landfall in Cape Canaveral, Florida. From there our destinations are endless! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. Ann (the ship's Captain) wrote Test Automation in Python and Java. Dennis and Ann met on Match.com where Ann had in her profile "Do you want to sail the world with me?" Ann easily brought Dennis into sailing, and he loved the GTFOplan of retiring early and sailing the world. After many years of saving, living on one income but earning two, and cutting back on everything possible, they saved enough to buy a Balance 482. We were so close to the finish line you could spit at it! And then the wind shut down, the boat spun 180 degrees in the wrong direction, and so why not finish in reverse! The Richmond Yacht Club often times rewards creativity in their beercan races, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It went over well, and while we weren't awarded a prize bottle of wine, we received high accolades for our creativity. I've proposed a change to the racing rules, which is that motoring is not allowed... unless it's in reverse.

We worked as manager/dive instructors on a live-aboard (M/V La Strega) in Belize in the Western Caribbean. Diving was quite good ... too bad the company owning the boat was not running the business properly. We only stayed 3 months ... the company went later out of business. Filmed in 1988 and put in digital video much later.

A few boats had a good go at the front of the fleet on day three of the RC44 Marstrand World Championship, but none could match the consistency of Team Nika. Vladimir Prosikhin took the winner's gun in the first race of the day, sailed in 10 knots and lumpy seas. When the rain fell, it made little difference to his fortunes, following up with a second and fourth place.​ The Russian team has impressively taken a race win every day of the World Championship so far, putting them 15 points ahead. Nika's closest rivals struggled, opening up a big points gap to second place, now held by Bronenosec with Ceeref on equal points. Tomorrow is the final day of competition and the sun is forecast to make a welcome return. The more important question for the RC44 fleet is, can anyone stop Nika from running away with the world title that Prosikhin last won in 2015? The RC44 Marstrand World Championship is the third event of the 2017 RC44 Championship Tour, which pits the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high-performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts. Light winds on the GC32 Villasimius Cup’s final day may not have provided the same top speed foiling action of the previous three days, but there was high drama across the leaderboard during today’s three races with first place changing twice and third place swapping. Out on the bay off Marina di Villasimius, the 5-7 knot wind started off in the east-southeast before veering south-southeast for the last two races made for particularly tricky racing. The GC32 Villasimius Cup is the fourth and penultimate event of the GC32 Racing Tour 2018 season.
