Are we ready to throw the lines of our sailboat and move to the hook? We still have so much to do and are really tired of spending more money. Not only do we have the marina expense, but all the little odds and ends to live off grid. We have to get our kitchen ready! The propane oven didn't work, plus propane is a heavy gas, not good on a sailboat. We convert it all to electricity, and we find a large 1,800 what oven that will work. The Ninja oven would give our Victron 3000 inverter hell sounding like it was about to fry. We changed our oil on the Yanmar 55hp diesel engine. Things get a little mess when I don't heed my wife's warnings. Still, we got it done and listened to the Diesel pure. Also, we finally get our last head fixed. Had to replace the vacuum pump and dropped another few hundred there. We just felt that having two is better than one as we set off for blue waters. We spent the last few weeks of the summer in the Ionian Islands of Greece. We had friends charter a boat and were able to buddy boat around the islands with them. We had to get Hangtime out of the Euro Zone so we hopped over to Albania for a quick visit. When you aren’t confident that the existing thru-hulls are secure and the valves won’t turn, it’s time to look for a new option. We chose to replace every single thru-hull so that we could be confident in their installation. This also allowed us to choose exactly what we wanted. Time for an upgrade. We chose Marelon composite thru-hulls and hopefully, we’ll never have to replace them again. Everyone told us: “Don’t buy a catamaran, they can’t sail upwind.” Well, in today’s video, we’re putting that theory to the test as we line up Rúna, our Excess 11 catamaran, against a monohull to see who’s really faster going upwind - and we see how close we can take Rúna into the wind. Our Corsican adventure also continues as we sail from the lively citadel of Bonifacio down to the breathtaking Lavezzi Islands. Along the way, we explore Roccapina’s white sand beaches and rugged cliffs, wander Bonifacio’s medieval streets, and soak up unforgettable sunsets at anchor. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. An anchorage that looked like paradise turned into chaos overnight when strong winds funnelled through and charter boats began dragging into us and onto the rocks.
