Upon returning for our new school year, we visited our beach which was extremely crowded and here's a video sharing that with you. On the most part, the Chinese in Qingdao don't sit and chairs or lay on beach towels and read by the ocean like most Westerners. Instead, they stand by the ocean waves and sit either on the sand or in tents they set up to help protect them from the sun which too much is shunned in China. We have done a fast time-warp video of our beach during this busiest time so that you can experience it for yourself and then at the end provide the pleasant unexpected surprise of a classic jazz band warming up on the beachfront for a small concert. This is a short teaser for the whole autumn 2020 season in the playlist where we sail from Gotland to Normandie. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

We made our way across the Great Bahama Bank from Bimini to the Berry Islands, a passage that turned out to be our best one yet! The wind was perfect, the waves not too big, Bagheera soared across! Episode 26 of Aboard The Flying Spur I'm doing the 3-day passage from Hilton Head Island to Ponce, Florida. Episode 037 Skipper makes a sudden decision for us to haul out to fix two major problems we've had on Tāiko. Our autopilot suddenly stopped working over Easter weekend when we picked our friend up only to find the pin holding the autopilot to ram had sheared in half with one half stuck in the quadrant. Despite our efforts, we were unable to remove the stuck piece which resulted in us having to haul out and becoming an expensive issue for us. Why did this happen? Well, it's a long 18 month old story and needing to haul out meant we had to address another major issue that has been worrying us. Very frustrating for us but we do get there with the ongoing support and help of our good friends Garth and Elizabeth from Fisheye Fabrication, Opua in the Bay of Islands. Thank you both so much! In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore.
