While Nico Poons’ Charisma, the 2022 44Cup Champion, is the event’s runaway leader at the 44Cu, albeit still catchable, on day three of the 44Cup Oman several other teams had the opportunity to shine. After an hour’s delay waiting for the wind to build, the race area off Muscat’s Al Mouj Marina for a third day offered the nine teams competing at the 44Cup Oman perfect conditions, starting with 8 knots and building into the teens for the final race.

Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I just picked up. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. In this episode I rig up the Moth and go for couple practice session. Im trying to get as much time on the water and keep climbing the steep learning curve. I lucked out with a couple beautiful light and puffy days on the water filled with lots of foiling, swimming and crashes. Enjoy!

With the boat wintering almost wrapped up, we hire a car and go on a road trip to Olympia; where the Olympic Games originated. First while we have the car we 'pause the boat' and take the 3.5 hour drive South to look around this historical sight. Other cruisers had told us previously to hire some VR goggles and that is exactly what we did. They created pictures for us to visualise what the ruins we were standing in front of, actually looked like back in their glory and shared information on them. Home-schooling at it's finest.
