Buzz started sailing young wit his brother Frank. They sort of fell into the Snipe by accident but clearly they liked it. Pretty soon the whole family was sailing Snipes and winning championships. He liked the boat because it was easy to handle and he could have a girl crew for him -- girls being smaller and more agile in the boat. That's always an important part of having Serious Fun to go along with the Serious Sailing. C'est la première fois que j'ai une minute de répit. Pour être honnête, je devrais être en train de dormir mais je profite plutôt d'un instant de « calme » avec un café (what else ?!) devant l'ordinateur en attendant le téléchargement des fichiers météo. Well, this TJV has thrown us some tough conditions over the last 6 days, this is the first time I have a minute to spare, to be honest I should be sleeping but instead I am enjoying a moment of "calm" with a coffee (what else?!) at the computer, waiting for some weather to download. The relentless conditions take their toll on body and boat. I am still wearing the same clothes as I was last Sunday, hair has not been brushed, only the basics like brushing teeth have been possible. Tonight things should calm down slightly, but that just mean more work for us: bigger sails and hours at the helm to keep it fast. Plus a few jobs on the job-list that need to be done. Racing is great, the others do not make mistakes and the pace is hard-core, we are proud to be up near the front of the fleet, sad to see so many of our friends forced to head back to land. To win, first you have to finish, never forget. The route is still long and we are happy to be out here. We have spent our first season of sailing in the Mediterranean: island hopping in Greece. It has been a fabulous time! In this second season we have to leave the EU due to our visas running out. But first we have some repairs to do... In this episode we return to our boat after two and a half months in Cape Town. While in Cape Town, Darrol had a chance to play music with his brother, Shane, his talented nephew, Ricardo, and several other musician friends - all of them mostly self-taught, playing purely for fun.
