At the End of Last weeks video, I mentioned that we ordered a new mattress for the boat. Over the last year with the boat being in the yard, with it being closed up for so long, with the leaks and humidity of not running the air conditioner, the mattress was starting to smell a little bit musty. Like most boats, the shape of the bunk is odd and would require a custom mattress if you wanted to have it look like it did from the factory. We decided when we bought the boat to replace the custom spring mattress with a foam mattress of a standard size. To do so, we had to cut the old mattress to create the angled pieces that go around the standard double mattress. The depth is a challenge in this bunk. It must be no taller than eight inches to still allow the cabinet doors around the bunk to open. Normally this is fine as the boats come with really thin 3-4" thick cushions when you buy them but they are NOT comfortable for sleeping on regularly. We found a coil spring mattress that comes vacuum packed to be thin, then rolled up and packed into a small box no bigger than 10" X 10" by the width of the mattress. We show you the challenges we had with this darn thing. We also spent some time just relaxing in the boat and getting it back into organized condition for living again. This started with getting tools and project 'stuff' out of the way. We also allowed our daughter Whitney to do most of the filming during this mattress battle and she lent her own comical style to the whole thing. Oh and we had to bleep out a lot of stuff as well. We were talking like a sailor, to say the least. Voici le quatrième épisode d'une modeste présentation de nos 50 jours consécutifs passés à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain en 2019. Nous répétons le même scénario depuis plusieurs années, mais nous n'avions jamais pris le temps de documenter et surtout, de présenter notre expérience. Nous naviguons à 4 (2 adultes, 2 enfants en bas âge) sur un Hunter 30 Cherubini 1980 que nous avons remis à notre goût ces dernières années. Nous tenons habituellement de 8 à 9 jours avec notre réservoir d'eau et le réservoir d'eaux noires. Cette année, nous avons hissé les voiles chaque jour pour lesquels nous avons navigué. Nous avons parcouru une distance totale de 610 miles nautiques sur le fond et consommé 32 litres de diesel en 7 semaines. la plus grande distance parcourue sur le fond fut de 35,2 miles nautiques en près de 7 hrs 30. Il n'y a eu qu'une seule journée entière de pluie... notre vitesse de croisière se situe aux alentours de 5 noeuds. Nous espérons inspirer ceux qui doutent du plaisir que l'on peut avoir à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain avec une jeune famille et partager quelques'uns de nos mouillages et des quelques moments de bonheurs passés sur l'eau. I finally got the sunfish repaired enough to take out on the water. The wind was very good and the Neuse River had decent waves. I set out from Oriental North Carolina and had a phenomenal sail. I got REALLY wet a few times and definitely tested the boat out again on a MAIDEN VOYAGE of sorts as it hasn't been in the water in years. I used to sail this boat a lot as a kid and have countless hours of fun on it. In this episode the guests have all gone, and we slowly make our way northbound. Our eventual destination will be Malaysia, but there's a whole lot to see in between. We do some post-guest boat maintenance, including cleaning and drying some of the sails and the Mini Cat inflatable catamaran. As we pass through Telos, we snorkel on a sunken shipwreck that has become home to many little local fish. We land in some good, and some not so good anchorages on Nias. The good one, in the northwest, is called Afulu Bay, and offers a neat dinghy trip upriver for our provisioning run. Our last stop in Nias, at the north end of the island, is a bigger town named Lahewa that was not so long ago almost completely destroyed by a tsunami wave. They seem to be getting back on their feet really well, and Lahewa is now again a bustling town. Aujourd’hui, on s’attaque à plusieurs missions sur mon Élisabethan 29 : 🔧 Réparation d’une dorade qui fuyait joyeusement (mais on préfère garder l’eau dehors). ⚓ Remise en place des filières après avoir joué au déménageur pour démonter le balcon arrière. 🤩 Quelques explications sur le presse-étoupe avec Lolo. 🥪 Premier pique-nique à bord ! Entre deux coups de tournevis, on s’octroie une petite pause bien méritée sur le carré… entourés d’outils, évidemment. 🪚 Arrachage du vaigrage tribord terminé ! Adieu les vieilles mousses récalcitrantes, bonjour le futur intérieur tout beau tout neuf ! 🎥 Bref, une demi-journée bien remplie entre technique, rigolade et pique-nique. Ce nouveau départ de Lorient, une semaine après s'être élancés du Havre pour la Transat Jacques Vabre annonçait une transat à part. Sans concurrent, Tanguy Le Turquais et Félix de Navacelle, son co-skipper, doivent se battre contre le temps. Une course contre-la montre qui doit permettre à au skipper de franchir la ligne d'arrivée de la Route du café dans les temps. Avant de repartir dans le même mouvement pour le Retour à la Base. Avec cet aller-retour express, le skipper de l'Imoca Lazare doit valider deux courses d'une importance capitale en vue de sa qualification pour le Vendée Globe 2024.
