Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. As Saoirse glides gracefully through the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, we are now 400 nautical miles into our journey from Florida to Rhode Island. All alone, just the two of us and an occasional bird. We are adrift in the Gulf Stream, swaying back and forth, listening to the halyards ding against our mast, the sky is lit with the burnt orange setting sun and then THIS happened. In the end, the plan of a seamless 900 nautical mile offshore sail, guided by the Gulf Stream's gracious current, has taken an unexpected turn. A strong northerly wind, poised to intersect near Cape Hatteras, known for its tumultuous conditions, has led us to quickly alter our course. But our temporary harbor reveals an unforeseen challenge—an inlet that will put an end to our thus far peaceful sail. Everyone tells us we can't afford not to come to the Bahamas. It has the clearest waters at the perfect temperature. Strings of fabulous islands and perfect trade wind sailing in protected waters. However, there's a way to come to the Bahamas and that's well provisioned with a fully functional boat. Having just spent the last 6 weeks in Cuba with very little opportunity to resupply and with more things breaking on the boat than in the previous 8 years put together, it wasn't the best preparation! I hope you enjoy this bonus video posted in addition to the normal Friday uploads! I got the chance to film this North Pacific Yachts 49 Euro Pilothouse during a boat show called Trawlerfest in Baltimore earlier this fall. This yacht is an amazing long distance cruiser. It is a rugged and low maintenance boat with a modern appeal. It's also a great option as a liveaboard. The owners actually live on board for the majority of the year! Because of the traffic on board throughout my time filming I was unable to film the engine room. You gain access to the single engine (or engines depending on selected options) through hatches in the main salon floor. I discuss engine specs and capabilities towards the end of the tour. I sail a 1000 NM passage in fairly sporty conditions from Bermuda to two small French islands off the southern coast of Newfoundland (St Pierre et Miquelon). I discuss/demo my technique for putting in a reef while headed downwind (and welcome ways to improve). As I approach Newfoundland, an aggressive front arrives at the same time, and rather than argue with mother nature, I hove to (park at sea) for 18 hours.
