Welcome back, sea adventurers, to our series where we transform your British Virgin Islands Bareboat Charter aspirations into tangible skills. Today, we're navigating the complex waters of sailing certifications and training organizations. Charting Uncharted Waters of Sailing Training Diving into the world of sailing education reveals a sea of options beyond traditional shores. From hands-on training at on-water schools to the digital decks of online courses, the pathways to becoming a certified sailor are as varied as the oceans themselves. Organizations like the RYA, NauticEd, and ASA have set the global benchmarks, while regional licenses keep local waters in check – all without the anchor of formal government oversight. Navigating with the American Sailing Association (ASA) In this episode, we hoist the sails to explore the American Sailing Association (ASA), which, since 1983, has been charting a course for sailors with its comprehensive certification system. From the calm waters of basic keelboat sailing to the challenging swells of offshore passagemaking, ASA's hands-on approach injects the joy of sailing into every lesson. Key Points of the ASA Compass • Global Reach: With roots deeply planted in North American soil, the ASA's influence stretches across the globe, ensuring wherever you dock, your skills are recognized and respected. • Diverse Curriculum: Whether you're learning to read the wind or navigate by the stars, ASA's courses cover every aspect of sailing, prioritizing practical skills, safety, and seamanship. • Certification for the Sailing Spirit: ASA's certifications are your passport to the seas, offering growing international acceptance and recognition. • Learning by Doing: ASA believes in a tactile education, where learning is immersive, ensuring you leave not just with knowledge but with experience. • Charter-Ready Recognition: Accepted by charter companies and sailing schools worldwide, ASA certifications are your ticket to command the helm globally. Set Your Course for Sailing Mastery Ready to embark on your sailing journey? Our recommended online training program offers an ocean of benefits, from the flexibility of anywhere, anytime learning to the innovative sailing simulations that prepare you for real-life voyages. There is not many thing Anders and I hate but we truly hate but Medmoorings for different reasons and it didn't get easies when suddenly Anders satt with the handle to the throttle in his hand while we where doing a Medmooring in Palma de Mallorca. We meet up with Massimo a fellow Wauquiez 47PS owner who also sail mini transat 6.50 and I get close wild birdlife and check out and tell you the historic story about a an old WW2 bunker. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.
We are excited to have Pedro from UK Sails join our roundtable to discuss the many topics related to sails and sail plans. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about different sail materials, sail designs, furling vs. slab reef systems, and much more!
While both Wavescape and Purelip are designated as wave sails, there are quite a few differences in build and function. Impermeabilità: Resistente all'immersione fino a 10 metri per 1 ora.

We are Eric, Kimberley, and Distin. We are from Alaska. We started our adventures in Alaska on our Nordhavn 55. We sold her and are now beginning our adventures on a new to us Nordhavn 50. In this episode of we cruise into Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s most historic and vibrant coastal cities! We start by exploring the northwest arm of Halifax, checking out the viable anchorage spots for cruisers and liveaboards. We're starting a major catamaran refit and one of the first jobs is a big one - Iain pulls down our saloon ceiling to discover that a massive area of our coach roof has a rotten balsa core, and it needs a lot of fibreglass repair work to make it safe before we can even consider going back out to sea again. While Brioni is unwell, Iain has to tackle this project alone and it's pretty daunting.

Due to its location near the entry, the galley is well ventilated. With an L-shaped layout and numerous storage compartments (with high and low cabinets), it features an ergonomic design and great storage capacity. Chic and comfortable, the saloon is a bright, generously sized central living area that opens onto the exterior.
When we first visited the Wayag Islands, part of the Raja Ampat area in east Indonesia, we were on a fast track and could spend only 1 afternoon exploring this incredibly beautiful area. We swore we would come back. This time we spent a week. We anchored in a small bay surrounded by magnificent views of karst islets, mini white sand beach, and clear blue and green water. We joined with our friends, Jan, Laura, and Oscar the dog, to make a dinghy exploration of the dramatic karst rock formations and the waterways and channels between. With each new turn around a corner a new breathtaking view was revealed. The tall imposing cliffs change their moods with the changing light of the day. On the western edge of Wayag, we did 2 dives, first trying to go to Pelagic Rock only to find a swirling, boiling mass of current! At 2 Hump and Figure 8 Islets, just a little further in toward the lagoon, we saw some beautiful U/W scenery, of colorful fish and magnificent soft corals. One of the best highlights was climbing up one of the steep sided rock mountains to find a fantastic panoramic view of the whole western side of Wayag. We could see Laura’s sailboat far below, and all the incredible colors of water, vegetation, rocks, and beaches. Whew! Looking down from up there, we could see the perfect place to snorkel a colorful reef. Immersing ourselves, we caught a glimpse of some Humphead Parrot fish cruising off into the blue. A rare and beautiful find was a yellow spotted flatworm, a creature that normally crawls like a slug across the bottom, that was swimming with crazy undulations in the shallow water. What a video opportunity! Filmed in October 2014.
