After checking my latest boat repairs and updates, I contemplate whether the jib sheets should be inside or outside the shrouds!. (Inside by the way) Then with a nice S. I am heading to Goto Islands and wanted to visit and support a small island community who I had heard were trying to revive the island by attracting tourists to view the coal mines and abandoned buildings were once 8000 people lived from 1959 until 200. This would mean I could do the 50 NM voyage over two days. But, despite good intentions, I was asked to leave. So I had to sail back to Sunset Marina ( about 15 nm) and sail direct to Ukujima the next day where I would encounter more surprises. But that is for another episode. Well, it is that time of the year again, when the days start to get short and there is a chill in the air, you know it is time for the Annapolis Fall Sailboat Show. Toni and I left early in the morning and fought traffic before finding parking that was only a few blocks away. We viewed a Vision 444 for a second time, wandered by the Seawind corral and then spent time on the Seawind 1600 Passage Maker. We hit the tents and purchased some additional gear and wandered the grounds to converse with anyone that did not run in the opposite direction. We ended the day by attending the Seawind owners’ party, comparing boats, telling tall stories, and enjoying shared experiences. The Annapolis Sailboat show is where people go to see and be seen. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. One of our NSSC Sailability members, Jazz Turner, featured on BBC South East Today evening news at the end of her epic Project FEAR ("face everything and rise") journey. Jazz is terminally ill with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and is a full-time wheelchair user. After 28 days sailing around the UK and Ireland single-handed, non-stop and unassisted, Jazz arrived back at Brighton Marina around 13:30 on Monday 30th June 2025. Partindo do sul da França há um ano, o objetivo deles não é o caminho mais fácil do Canal do Panamá, mas a rota desafiadora e selvagem rumo à Patagônia. A busca não é por grandes cidades, mas pela natureza em seu estado mais puro, um lugar onde, segundo eles, a vida selvagem é a principal companhia. A conversa me fez refletir sobre a existência de uma "nação do mar", uma comunidade global unida não por terra, mas pela água, com suas próprias tradições e fronteiras. Um lugar onde a liberdade ainda significa ir para onde o vento levar, com o essencial no bolso.
