As we continue our boat search, we found a Vagabond 47 on craigslist and fell in love!!! So another road trip but this time to North Carolina to check her out! She's a beautiful boat and we can see ourselves living on her!!

For a few days we stick around Nantwich, go out for lunch, trek to find drinkable water, detour through a park, and learn about Telford's Aqueduct and the notches made by horse ropes all those years ago! There's always another issue on a boat, always some problem to overcome. Today's is a leaky weed hatch. The old seal was only done just before we set out on the voyage to get the baseplate done, about 6 weeks before this video. The seal looked like it had melted which threw me a little, and I thought "surely the water coming off the prop couldn't be that hot?!". It took a little while to think through, but I suspect it was melted by either the methods used to remove the old base replate, or in the process of welding the new one on. The uxter plate (the flat bit around the prop area on the outside) was also replated, which is adjacent to the weedhatch. Another thing I didn't know would need fixing after a baseplate job. Usually racing on the 44Cup between the high performance owner-driver one designs is tight with ties or just single points separating the leaders. At the 44Cup Oman, opening event of the 2023 season and hosted out of Muscat’s Al Mouj Marina by Oman Sail, perhaps due to the strong conditions of the first three days, the leaderboard was clearly defined going into the final day with Nico Poons’ Charisma seven points clear of Igor Lah’s Team Ceeref powered by Hrastnik 1860, in turn eight ahead of John Bassadone’s Peninsula Racing. Unlike the previous three days when conditions built to 20 knots with a vicious short sea, today racing took place in light 5-8 knots, more typical of the Omani venue. Fortunately the wind held, enabling PRO Maria Torrijo to complete the full racing schedule.

La caleta du réveillon. Après une semaine de navigation sous la pluie, la caleta Cinco Estrellas a accueilli Sir Ernst le soir du 31 décembre. Par chance, le lendemain nous avons eu droit à une matinée de beau temps sans vent. Nous avons étés émerveillés par la beauté du paysage entourant cette caleta. En saison, (hiver austral) elle sert de refuge aux pêcheurs qui viennent y stocker leur casiers à "centollas" (crabe royal de Patagonie).
