In last weeks episode, we shared the lessons we learned about leaving the valves open when in a campsite with a sewer connection. Don'T leave your valves open. Take it from me. This week we replace the valves that were locked up. We could have likely lubricated them and had them working well again for some period of time, BUT, as cheap as they are, it made sense to replace them and not worry about them any longer. In the non-sailing season, we thought we might share a few of the best walks in the Tarbert area. This is a regular one for us, from the A83 down the track towards Barmore Island and then around the grounds of Stonefield Castle Hotel. Well worth exploring the old quay, boat house and magnificent bridge over the river. You can extend the walk doing a lap Barmore island, offering fantastic views of Loch Fyne, although it can be very wet and muddy at times. As the XVIII edition of the SW Rendezvous draws to a close, it’s time to cheer the winners-that is everyone- and look back fondly on five days of pure pleasure. The event concluded at sea with the SW105 Kiboko and the brand new SW96 Liberty contining their challenge along the day’s approximately 25nm-long course adding some spectacular sailing action.SW82 Grande Orazio performed well, pushing to the very end with their usual highly competitive spirit. SW100 Padma and SW96 Nyumba also kept their friendly challenge up right to the end. Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I just picked up. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. In this episode I rig up the Moth and go for another practice session. After my last session I realized that I needed to get in better shape to be able to tame this beast. Thats what I did, every day for the past month, I lifted weights, worked on my core, worked on my flexibility and my cardio. My body is ready and the weather gods cooperated for this beautiful day on the water filled with lots of foiling, swimming and crashes. Enjoy!
