The city of BauBau and the regency has lots to offer to visitors. The BPO participants had a chance to taste great local food ( like the “parende” fih soup) as do interesting cultural and natural sightseeing. From weaving & sarong making to black pearl farming … from cultural village ceremonies to a tour of the Keraton fort. The group had a great conversation with the students of a local highschool about climate change. We were also welcomed by the city mayor, Drs Tamrin. Visited the Lacasa Cave and did some scuba in Lova Lova Cave. The local guides were great and this was one of the most memorable stopover of the Indonesian rally leg. While diving in the Archipelago Revillagigedos, 350 miles west of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (250 mi south of Cabo San Lucas) we follow a group of dolphins to our dive site, in our inflatable dinghy, where we encounter some chaos on the surface. Armed with a GoPro we suddenly find ourselves in the middle of a shark feeding frenzy, who are surrounding a school of yellowtail tuna.

Cabin side box frames How To! The Roberts 370E Yacht I am building has a significant compound curve to it. However I want to install Lewmar opening port lights in the cabin sides but they will not fit flat or seal correctly because of the curvature. How to get around this! I addressed this issue by fabricating steel box frames with a recessed flat inner sealing face, which allows me to install the Lewmar port lights. Once made, I am able to inset the frames into the cabin side positioning them in such a way that the frames followed the cabin curve, but still provided a flat surface to install the openers. Strangford Lough Yacht Club once again hosted the season ending Frosties Regatta on the picturesque shores of upper Strangford Lough. There were 9 yachts entered in this years IRC 1 regatta, with 7 boats regularly hitting the start line. The racing in this years Frosties Regatta was closer than ever in the IRC 1 class with the boats regularly finishing within seconds of each other and several ties which is rare to see in ICR racing. GTR was back to defend their title which they won for the first time in the last year Frosties. They were expecting close competition from two other local boats, HiJacker and Flint, and you would be unwise to rule out MoviStar Blue who has won the regatta countless times before. The Regatta was held over 4 weekend with 8 races in total. The series was a classic with 3 different race winners and 3 boats that could still take the title coming into the last day for racing. Race 5 was a highlight with close racing and multiple lead changes be sure to check it out !

Alexia Barrier’s MOD70 Limosa - The Famous Project (FRA) crossed the finish line of the RORC Transatlantic Race outside Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina Grenada on January 15th 2024. The 3,000-mile race, completed in under eight days, was a big step towards The Famous Project’s ultimate ambition – An all-women team Jules Verne Record Attempt in the 31.5m trimaran IDEC Sport. Limosa’s Skipper Alexia Barrier completed the 2021 Vendée Globe, racing the oldest boat in the fleet and taking 111 days to race solo around the world. Racing a MOD70 as skipper, Alexia has won the last two editions of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Alexia Barrier has set a new benchmark in the 2024 RORC Transatlantic Race as the first MOD70 woman skipper to finish the race. This was certainly a treat for me!! We go to Lorient in Brittany where the old German U-Boat submarine base is still in good repair. This was the most important U-Base the Germans built in during WW2 and was responsible for the launch of 1000's of missions that saw ship after ship sunk in the Atlantic ocean. We then get a real treat as we board and explore the de-commissioned French submraine "La Flore" - S645. A great way to orund of a great holiday! Whilst not a proponent of war, I like to think that the history of it is important. It should remind us of the horrors of it and hopefully make us wonder why so many people die at the behest of so few. We should never forget and I want to dedicate that message to the Heroes of Ukraine.
