Living out our dreams of Sailing to remote Indonesia in the search for the perfect wave. https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the boat yard is just a distant memory as we set sails down the West Coast of Sumatra in the search for waves. WE clear into Indonesia in Sabang and then head on down the coast, collecting a couple of young Aussie surfer lads as we go. We decide to take them along for a ride and head to the island of Nias. We had left Uncle and Bob back in Langkawi and arriving into the bay we were greeted with only these two vessels anchored in the calm lagoon. With a run of swell on the way, the lads get busy in the pumping left hander out the front. It was fun to try and remember how to surf again after months of not surfing! Worn out and hungry from a few days of practicing our surfing skills and combing the beach, we head into the weekly markets and show a little inside into village life. The sleepy quite town all week has barely noone around, but come market day it is a bustling metropolis! This is the first time we have seen Bat on the menu... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. The work is now complete and off we go to Thailand on our way to Indonesia. We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! After our passage from Bermuda, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) returns to Antigua where we left off in May. While Cloudy Bay was docked in Jolly Harbour we visited the Jacquie O’s and Rum Bus beach venues, Falmouth Harbour, and English Harbour where the Charter Yachts Show was in full swing. We also spent a day visiting the main town of St.John’s. Deciding to cook a 120lbs pig for the non profit organisation called Casa Guatemala, meant we had a big task on our hands. We managed to feed over 100 people here in Rio Dulce, and raised a few hundred dollars for the charity, which goes quite a long way here in Guatemala. We used a rotisserie spit to cook the pig, and had to watch it for 12 hours overnight to be ready for the big lunch. The pig was raised on the farm at Casa Guatemala, and she was actually starting to eat her own piglets so it was her time to go. Casa Guatemala is a non-profit organisation which is now a boarding school in the jungle for all of the villages in the area, and if anyone is looking to do some volunteer work, we can highly recommend considering this organisation, which only charges a one time fee of $300 for long term volunteers. Well, actually its not an island, we are officially at a reef, but the sandbank is always there, so I proclaim it an island. This is such a cool place. A place of life and death. We were not there in time to witness life. But death equally held awe and beauty. Duff reef is a turtle breeding island. It is rarely visited and therefore essentially protected by its own location. We were moved to have the privilege to visit this little spot on our planet. A place like this has to have a catch right? And it did. The anchorage was not a very hospitable. We didn’t doddle for days. One night was unfortunately enough. Enough in the sense we should have installed seatbelts to keep us in bed. Monster side swell kept us airborne most of the time. Quickly we were off to the next island group. Welcome Fulanga! At the very south east of Fiji it is upwind from everywhere. We were so thrilled to have the weather and the time to visit there with Ashley's Mom. Fulanga is special place. A welcoming place. A place of shy and wide smiles. Of beautiful people who set themselves apart by adopting the cruisers that dare to venture there. Tui and his sister, Koro, adopted us and allowed us a few special moments with their family. You will have to stay tuned for the next episode as we really immerse ourselves in the village. We are slowly making our way deeper and deeper into the South Pacific. It’s a far cry from New Zealand and although we love them both, we sometimes feel we are on borrowed time. Perhaps it is we are between periods of our lives. Perhaps it is we are just passing through this part of the world. Our constant is our home, Nahoa. Three years out cruising and we are lost. We know exactly where we are, but we are unsure of our future and even our next destination as plans are changing constantly. And so life goes. Even in paradise there are ups. Amazing inspirational days and downs. When you have doubt. When you don't know your next purpose. I suppose we are human after all. But suffice it to say we aren’t ready for this crazy journey to end anytime soon. So not to worry, we will continue to see what this entire world has to offer…. wherever that may lead us on this beautiful journey aboard NAHOA.

This might be the funniest and scariest footage we have so far! Shabby (our dinghy) has his own mind and seems like he can be a bit evil ;) Luckily everything went all right with both Johan and the outboard engine. In this episode we explore some more of Dominica, where we also met the YouTube channel Ocean Around and then we sail north to Terre De Haut in Iles Les Saintes, south of Guadeloupe. Beautiful island and once again we get welcomed with carnival. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Off the coast of Central America, we find a juvenile Hawksbill Sea Turtle, badly tangled in plastic debris. When we jump in, we are amazed at the amount of sea life this floating debris has attracted (hundreds of small fish, a large school of dorado and a pod of dolphins!), and the potential impact plastic can have in our oceans becomes VERY clear! Plastics are not only a danger to sea life that can become entangled in it - many animals also inadvertently consume plastic as food!
