Tour of the living space aboard the Antares 44i catamaran
In this episode we explore the island of Porto Santo by scooter, boat and foot. We also leave our mark on it before we sail to Madeira. We spend a couple of days at anchor outside the beautiful beach of Porto Santo. Just relaxing and having a great time in the sun and in the water! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. For more review, test, performance data, captain reports and more about the 2017 Mako 414 CC, go to: http://www.boattest.com/review/mako/3659_414-cc Boat companies are continually striving to evolve and improve their product line. Mako’s entry into this mindset revolves around the desire to grow from the popular 334. When deciding on how to move forward from this success story there was much discussion…. Go slightly bigger, add more features?? Ultimately it was decided that the new boat would have two base goals… it needs to break the 40’ (12.19m) mark for LOA and, being a Mako, it needed to be a fish first/family comfort second. Enter the 414 CC, a behemoth of a Mako, and now the flagship of the fleet.
Dominica is a true rainforest paradise! We loved this place and after arriving to the capital Rosseau we got welcomed by the carnival. But enough dancing on the streets for us because we wanted to see more of this lush jungle island. The rainforest offered lots of waterfalls and good hiking but the BEST was swimming in a volcanic gorge and bathing in natural hot springs!!! We didn't want to leave the warm water but when our skin was looking like raisins it was time. Do not miss this green pearl of the Caribbean! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. ASMR : 7 hours of sailing - Unedited - No music : raw sailing footage - peaceful relaxing atmosphere
7 hours of non stop sailing footage, unedited and with no music and no overdubs, just sailing, no bullshit. So this is not one of our normal episodes. It's almost like an archive but we thought some people might actually enjoy it. It's the footage from an entire trip bringing Miss Rosie, our GD28 back from Mylor Yacht Club in Falmouth to Pwllheli over 6 legs. nearly 400 nautical miles spread over a couple of weeks. We've not edited any of this, it's just the raw footage, with the original audio. So in a kind of way it's the closest thing some people can get to coming along on a long sailing journey with us. So for those of you who sail you may find this boring but for people who don't they may like to just put this on in the background as a kind of moving, relaxing, wallpaper and get some sense of being part of the journey.
Our second sailboat, ENVISION. Full O'day 28 sailboat tour!

That’s a wrap on our shakedown sail! In this episode, after sailing back across Lake Michigan to our home port of Racine, Wisconsin, and getting a little weird during the crossing (being alone on a boat definitely makes you go a little batty), we talk through everything we learned during our 3-week cruise along the west coast of Michigan. We wanted to do a proper shakedown cruise for two reasons: 1) FUN. After years of planning, saving and searching for a sailboat, we wanted to have some fun, see the west coast of Michigan, and sail into Charlevoix to achieve one of Kirk’s childhood dreams. 2) TEST the BOAT. Even though we’d taken some daysails, up until this point we hadn’t used the boat like a cruiser, which was the big plan. Before setting off south from our home port, we wanted a better idea of what we needed to fix, change or upgrade on the boat. A multi-week shakedown sail/cruise gave us a much better understanding of what it was like to live aboard our Tartan 37. Below is the TO DO list of things we decided were the most important and/or easy/cheap to complete before leaving on our big trip down the Mississippi/inland river system. * Ground tackle upgrade * New anchor - https://amzn.to/2ulA1sI * Add windlass * New anchor bridle * New all-chain rode * New chain hook - https://amzn.to/2JisyQ1 * New anchor swivel - https://amzn.to/2uoAo5S * Replace leaky head with compositing head * Convert all lights to LEDs * Cabin - https://amzn.to/2Jlziwq * Navigation - https://amzn.to/2L81N5L * New battery bank * Communications upgrade * Purchase Verizon mifi - https://amzn.to/2ukuQcI * Cellphone signal booster - https://amzn.to/2NMf821 * Marine cellphone antenna - https://amzn.to/2uxRCgj * Wifi booster * Insulate engine compartment * Hydrogen sulfate monitor - https://amzn.to/2umsJVP * Plumb 2nd water tank * Add foam to settee cushions * Run spinnaker halyard internally * Sew UV canvas covers for winches, handrails & compass * Buy handheld VHF - https://amzn.to/2uydZCq * Rig anchor light for river trip - https://amzn.to/2JmTvlp * Buy jerry cans for diesel & water/make deck railing for stowing * Diesel - https://amzn.to/2NQG8NV * Water - https://amzn.to/2LgYjdZ * Re-charge fridge Stay tuned for the next episode as the projects begin! Things have to get worse before they can better , Let the Repairs begin! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ This video was filmed in Febuary before the global pandemic really took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. If you would like to contribute towards Nandji's repairs please use this link. Thank you. http://paypal.me/SailingNandji If you are getting something out of our videos, please become a Patron to help support our production and adventures. Get Unseen footage, Exclusive vids and the inside scoop! http://www.patreon.com/Nandji In this episode of Sailing Nandji, being back in the boatyard this early was not what we had planned for 2020, but in hindsight, I guess now noone had planned for the current world situation... When we ended up n the reef back in Febuary, it was the worst experience of our lives. We were so close to losing everything, but luckily some how we managed to save our home and got her back to the boat yard. There is nothing like therapy with a grinder to rectify the situation and after days on end of grinding we now have 2 massive holes in the side of Nandji. Bonita convinced me that it best to get the professionals to do the re-planking of the hull and I agree. This means I can move onto the next project of building the rudder. I have never built a sailboat rudder before but felt confident my skills were up for the task. I dissected the original rudder to learn of the design and thought I shall copy the construction, with a few adjustments. This is part one of the rudder build as we source the materials to use in Thailand and then begin the construction. We get a new rudder staff made and then begin the epoxy gluing of the structure to shape. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed on our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. The plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #sailing #diving #205 #TheCruisingKiwis

Haul Out Time (Ep. 21) | What it's like hauling out an 80ft sailing yacht | 1 week maintenance mania
In this video we take a break from the restoration of 'Little Wing' and our focus shifts to 'Camara' as we haul her after 3.5 years in the water since we launched her at the end of 2018. We haul at Marsden Cove Marina which is one of the few options available for us with our size, tonnage and draft. It's not a cheap undertaking to haul an 80ft yacht so we need to get stuck into the work and get the job done in just one week. Due to sickness at Pete's work he is unable to take time off work and so the prep is up to Mum and Son - can we get it done in time? Please support us and like this video and make sure you are subscribed so you won't miss the next episode when we launch 'Little Wing' and take her for her first sail in many years. Adastra is the 140foot (42.5m) Trimaran recently lanched in China, and was built at McConaghy Boats Zhuhai Facility, China for a Hong Kong client for long range ocean voyaging. Designed by John Shuttleworth Design. "Adastra" is the result careful design, planning and discussion with the owners, to build a yacht that meets the needs of a very experienced ocean voyaging couple and their family, and to provide the level of comfort and style that would be expected in a yacht of this class and size. No effort has been spared in the challenge to produce a beautiful yacht that will have low fuel consumption and yet provide excellent sea keeping qualities and luxurious accommodation. "Adastra" takes the power trimaran concept further than has ever been attempted before, previous vessels like "Earthrace" and "Cable and Wireless" were stripped out record breaking machines. The challenge of turning this concept into a viable luxury yacht has led us to further research and to develop new thinking on stability and comfort at sea for this type of craft. Extensive tank testing and radio controlled model tests in waves have been carried out to analyze stability and performance. Outrigger height has been optimized for ease of motion at sea, and a new outrigger shape has been developed to increase stability in waves. We have undertaken a state of the art structural analysis of all the major components in the yacht in order to achieve the light weight required for very low fuel consumption. All this has resulted in the exceptional vessel that was recently launched by McConaghy boats in Zhuhai, China. Adastra's 16 metre beam creates a spacious saloon area on the main deck which offers superb views through a panoramic window and accommodates a lounge area, dining table, and navigation station. A forward facing door through the saloon window gives easy access to a large sunbed on the foredeck. The aft deck has a sofa and bar area to port and a dining area to starboard, further aft of this there is space for a 4.9 metre tender and directly below is a garage which can store a 3.1 metre tender. The garage door has been designed to fold out and create a large dive platform. Extra space has been created below deck by slightly flaring the central hull just above the waterline. This area has been split into two sections with a full-width master cabin located aft with access from the deck saloon, and two further guest cabins, accommodation for the crew, and the galley located forward of the engine compartment. Adastra offers comfortable accommodation for nine guests and up to six crew members. The main helm station, which has seating for two, is positioned in a raised pilot house situated between the aft deck and the saloon area and forms part of the cross beam structure. A SiMON² integrated ships monitoring system monitors fuel, security, pump sensors, electrical, lights, etc. The vessel has a fully automated fuel management system which includes an Alfa Laval system for cleaning the fuel. The anchoring system is unique with 3 anchors all driven by carbon fibre drum winches run by hydraulics. The primary anchor is a custom 130kg Bruce style anchor that deploys out of the starboard wing. The bow anchor is 80kg and deploys out of the bow with a carbon fibre arm. The third anchor is 60kg which deploys out of the port wing and will be used as a stern anchor. The Superstructure is carbon fibre with Nomex honeycomb core, the hull is Glass/Kevlar foam sandwich and the interior is light weight oak cabinetry using honeycomb panels. To help reduce weight, virtually every aspect of the boat is custom built. This includes carbon fibre hatches, portlights, ladders and even hinges, which are all built specifically for the vessel. "One of the world's most amazing super yachts, that could spell the future for efficient long range cruising" Boat International
We traded the ocean for the mountains—and today, we take our very first step toward building our dream homestead. Use code 50ATTICUS to get 50% OFF plus free shipping on your first Factor box at https://bit.ly/3YNXTn0! After years at sea, we’ve set foot on a new adventure: turning two and a half acres of wild North Carolina land into a home of our own. But before we can raise walls and shape a future, it all starts with something simple: a rough, imperfect table built with our own hands. In this episode, we visit a lumber yard for the very first time, tackle a giant brush pile from clearing our septic site, and start piecing together the basic tools we’ll need for the long journey ahead. The cuts aren’t perfect. The learning curve is steep. But this small act of creation marks the beginning of something far bigger than a table—it’s the first real step toward crafting the life we've been dreaming of. New to the channel? Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Hello Everyone! Sadly we are on our way home. The restrictions are becoming extremely tight and the government does not want foreign boaters in the bohemian waters. Luckily we have a home for the boat and decided it was best to head home and get 'The Far Side' ready for the upcoming season. Because of our draft, we decided to do short day sails out of the bahamas stopping at Shroud Cay again. It was very strange going into the mooring field with no neighbors around. In that case we were able to stretch our legs a little. COVID-19 UPDATE As of our time in Staniel Cay: Restrictions were getting tight and the country decided to go into another lockdown soon after we left due to Easter. The governor stated that we were able to make stops through the islands for safety and weather permitting, and having a deep drafted boat we did not feel comfortable crossing the banks at night.
