Being stopped by police when sailing in foreign waters is always a worry, especially when we don't have our passports with us. In this episode we sail overnight from the Mentawai islands back to mainland Sumatra to deal with our final visa extension and return to Cubadak Island for our first ever night diving experience. Along the way we are stopped by the marine Police! We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. After 72 days on the hard stand, Nandji is ready to float again!!!! Will everything work??? https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the final task of boatyard boatwork gets done as we sand back and re antifoul the hull of Nandji. This is a filthy and tiring job but lucky for us we have spent many hours previously preparing the hull and sanding back and fixing areas meaning this time around, the task was kind of easy! Then after a few little dramas before lifting time, we manage to get everything in order and be put back in the water. Will everything work? I HOPE SO!!!! Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papuea New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit! The work is now complete and Indonesia here we come! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! We go under the Golden Gate bridge for the second time and arrive in Monterey at night. Then our anchor catch something nasty on the bottom! Monterey is a cute town with friendly people and we rent a car to go south along the coast of the epic Big Sur! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. In this vlog we broke the first rule of seamanship: beware the land. We made a few HUGE mistakes including but not limited to: 1. Failing to plan 2. Trying to go into an unknown anchorage at night 3. Not turning back when we saw breakers on both sides of the channel 4. Trusting the GPS WAY more than we should have Hands down we were foolhardy, we made multiple mistakes, and we got the reality check we needed to learn from our behavior. We came out a lot better off than maybe we deserved. We could have easily lost the boat, and although Freebie is insured, that still would have been horrible for us, for you, and for those involved in pulling the boat off the shore. Going forward, we won't underestimate what the land can do to ocean-going vessels, and we'll be sure to constantly tread lightly and with care to not make these same mistakes again. After safely mooring up to the jetty, we have a stroll around the boat yard and the reality of what is about to come really begins to set in. I am not sure if I am ready for this! Maybe it is the new place giving me nerves, maybe I just don't want to start more boat work projects. However, if we like it or not, baby is coming and now is the time to get Nandji ready for the future with the baby spud! Full steam ahead, let's gut Nandji! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World!
