The all new HH Catamarans HH44 is a ground breaking yacht with many innovations standard. It features 100% electric propulsion with a Diesel Hybrid backup, 3,190 watts of solar, built in hydro power generation, swing helms, folding transoms, forward opening windows, 48 volt deck systems, shaft-drive folding propellers, pre-preg carbon fiber C-shaped daggerboards, and near wind-speed sailing performance (all of it standard!). In this video we hear from Paul Hakes (CEO & Co-Founder of HH) and James Hakes (HH Naval Architect) on how they and the team at HH Catamarans developed the all new HH44. Welcome to "Yachting Evolved." UPDATE: Since the airing of this episode we have increased the standard solar capacity on this yacht from 3,190 Watts on the cabin top to 4,000 watts controlled by 7 charger zones! We are also offering it with black backing, so the solar cells will not have the white boxes around them anymore. The price remains the same. The mock-up, and now mold, for the cabin house is finally put to work as the cedar strip-planked house comes together. Building this crucial part of the boat with this method has many reasons, chief among them being that strip-planking is extremely strong and waterproof, and that we don't have to use any very long, very clear pieces of cedar to make something that we intend to paint at the end. Alix announces that he's off to France for a while to take care of his father, and that we can't possibly know when he'll be able to return. We'd like to take this as an opportunity to say that though we don't talk about all the bumps along the way as we build Arabella and that it's not our focus to share from our personal lives, we've faced some challenges. Take care of each other out there. Take the time to heed the call when family needs help. Whether you or the universe chose that family, or, if your family chose you, we hope you are able, as Alix has done, to be there when it counts most. You'll get a little peek at some possible interior finishes and materials, Steve and Robin do much of the glue-up, and of course, Radar and Akiva are very, very good doggos. Thanks for your patience as Steve learns the new camera gear. We've told him it's *fairly* simple. On that note, enjoy the absolute visual freakout of a digital camera on a work surface getting the business end of a power tool. Thank you very much for watching and for your support. Happy Friday, all. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting or helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells? After our most stressful passage yet we arrive in Bahia de Ascension and are reminded that cruising is actually worth it... sometimes. In Ascension we explore the beautiful sand flats and vibrant blue waters on "Little Shit", using Atticus as our home base. We also motor sail Atticus across the bay with the sunshade still up for the first time and begin to get serious about increasing our shade underway. These are the videos that I mentioned during my description of the individual crimping tools: In the video you can see, for example, how a cable lug was pressed with the vise and then soldered. If the cable lugs are not be screwed tightly to the busbar or to the battery heat might be produced. This could cause that the soldering bit by bit might become brittle which leads to even greater heat. A situation that you definitely don't want. #Hammer Lug Crimper #Wire Lug Crimping Tool #Battery Lug Crimping Tool #Battery Terminal Connector Crimp Tool #Hydraulic Wire Battery Cable Lug Terminal Crimper #Cable Crimping Tool
To get yourself a reminder when we go live on February 11 visit: https://youtu.be/pCa0VXfjl_8 Visiting February 11 here in Granby? Please read this: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/visitor-welcome In this episode, we fabricate, modify, and install a bunch of hardware for the companionway steps, which have connections to the refrigerator, bilge stringers, sole, and cabin house. We create more connections and tie more seemingly disparate projects together than we ever have, and it's really something for us to see it all come together into a cohesive whole. Many boats have these sort of arrangements for their entry. A great many production boats, for example, have a companionway that integrates the galley counter as one of the steps, and because of its placement, the galley counter is also, in fact, part of an engine box. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Because between all the ups and downs of life, it's easy to let dreams slip away. But between doctors appointments, work and the ongoing commitments of life, things magically fell into place! My aunt Rebecca, uncle Mike and cousins (Matt & Keri) all managed to commit to the family trip of a lifetime. We already admitted the trip didn't turn out the way we hoped...but, we still had some magical days. The kind of days that fill you up until you're drunk on life and all the art, wine, food and people that make it worth living. This was one of them. So grab a glass and join us for a tour of Tuscany on two wheels. On The Road In Chianti A huge thanks to our friends Michele and Nanna who not only recommended and helped us set up the bike tour at YEP but also volunteered to meet us at each location with my Aunt and Uncle. Our time in Tuscany wouldn't have been the same without you. 🙏 Now let's talk about YEP. It's a husband and wife run bike shop. Alessio (the husband) was our guide and having him with us made us feel like locals everywhere we went. If you want to do the same trip, something more adventurous or perhaps more low key, the team at YEP can make any trip on two wheels happen. They do tours or you can rent the bikes, grab some suggested routes and make your own adventure. But we highly recommend the guided tour! https://www.yep-bike.com/en/ ________________________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste. Launching at the Southampton Boat Show 2018, the new C63 is Spirit Yachts' first yawl rig. The deckhouse design incorporates a raised coachroof, which provides protection from the elements. Panel windows incorporated into all sides of the coachroof facilitate near 360-degree views of the horizon from the chart table. Accommodation is for six guests across a master forward cabin with ensuite, double cabin and a Pullman cabin, both of which share a head with a rain shower. Designed for racing as well as cruising, the C63 has carbon spars, nitronic rod rigging and a OneSails sail wardrobe (comprising a fully battened mainsail and mizzen, a 105% jib and a custom electric furling asymmetric).

Solo ocean racing, and the types of boats people use for them, is a world apart from Arabella and our crew here. We're getting ready for our own big adventure in 2025—climbing huge walls in Baffin Island—and see similar care and consideration applied to the preparations of a Hawaiian sailor we met in Portland, Maine. Hear his story here and take a tour of the boat with Steve and Satchel. A boat sinks at the dock in a big blow, Robin docks Arabella, we arrive in Rockland, Maine, and we finally get the final three pins we need to complete the pinrails. Thanks Ron! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! How To Flush and Bleed your Brakes By Yourself! Porsche996 , Porsche 996 Turbo Brakes , Bleed Ceramic Brakes Hi Everyone, We take a little "brake" from the 911 3.2 Carrera project to bleed the brakes on the 996 Turbo. Super easy and anyone can do this by themselves. The whole process should take an hour or so. A word about the bleeder I used... The Motive Power Bleeder would not hold pressure. I even tried completely cleaning and using silicone grease, but the valve just gives way. I was able to get the job done, but there was a bit of having to pump and pump... I want to try the Schwaben Power Bleeder to see if it is any better. Enjoy a day on board the heritage yacht Oyster 625 Blue Jeannie - the first hull of our multi-award winning line of Oyster 625 blue water sailing yachts. Conceived in 2011 to bring significant improvements to our already successful Oyster 61 and 62 ocean-going sailboats, the Oyster 625 offered a new hull shape from the boards of Rob Humphreys of Humphreys Yacht Design. Enhancements included clean, uncluttered decks both forward and aft, and an improved interior layout with living space to rival yachts of a far greater length. The 625 was also the first design to feature what would become our signature triple-vertical Seascape windows in the saloon, providing an airy feeling below decks with ample natural light. Built in 2011 for existing Oyster owners, Oyster 625-01 Blue Jeannie was originally commissioned to be listed with Oyster Charter. As such, she conforms to MCA charter regulations and is equipped to the highest standards to offer the ultimate charter experience on board. Below decks, her specifications include air conditioning, a water maker, a fridge freezer and state-of-the-art entertainment systems, which above decks, Blue Jeannie has a stunning spacious cockpit with twin wheels. A sloop rig features hydraulic in-mast furling with powered headsail furling, allowing her to be sailed shorthanded. Blue Jeannie enjoyed a successful charter season under the Oyster Charter programme in her first year, before being returned by her owners to private use so they could enjoy the summer season on board in the Eastern Mediterranean. Marine Electronics: Communications at Sea , Navigation and Sailing Apps / From Sextant to Iridium Go as well as Sailboat navigation through the last 50 years!! Patrick Childress Sailing Videos #35 This is a tour of our Chart Table on our Blue water Sailboat, as we are sailing around the world on our Valiant 40. At our Nav station we have an array of marine electronics for sailing navigation and communication while we are at sea including Navionics electronic charting. Our Raymarine chartplotter and Radar, a Vespermarine AIS Transponder, Iridium GO! and Predictwind with Xgate on the IPad Pro are what we use now. Patrick shows how he navigated his Catalina 27 Juggernaut, circumnavigating in the 1970s with no gps, using only a sextant, an RDF, and paper charts. In 2007, we began our circumnavigation with a small Raymarine chart plotter and Tacktick wireless sailing instruments, Navionics electronic charts, with a laptop, OpenCPN and .kap charts as a backup sailboat navigation system. We used the Icom 710 SSB radio with a Pactor 3 Modem with Airmail/Winlink/Sailmail for staying in touch with other boats and our families. Later we purchased an Ipad with the best sailing apps for navigation, and electronic charts and sailing apps including Navionics, TimeZero iboat, and Ovitalmap. But the Iridum GO! and Predictwind for communication at sea, and for getting our wind and ocean currents while sailing offshore has been a great improvement for marine navigation, communications at sea, getting weather at sea, and for our safety! This week. we smoke a Texas Style Beef Brisket. This is a complete whole packer brisket with both the flat and the point. Easy to do, but takes the better part of the day, so pull up a chair for this fun smoke. But what the heck, grab a beer, and get to smelling smokey! The last plank... for now, anyway. This episode doesn't feature the whiskey plank, and Steve does a very good explanation for those who have been asking about the difference between a shutter plank and a whiskey plank. We've got four shutters, and like all boats, one whiskey, which is still yet to come. The truth is, there are a lot of ways to put a boat together, and Arabella is one more illustration of the choices that every boatbuilder makes on the way. So when the heck is the whiskey plank going on? Steve answers that, too. We get a great look at the first, and most complicated, strips to be laid down for the cabin house's construction. Cedar strips, nailed and glued with epoxy, start with these first pieces that follow convex camber athwartships, and concave camber fore and aft. Oh, and Grandpa bails that hay we saw cut last week. Thank you so much for watching and for your support, we hope you enjoy this one! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells?
