Sailing from Island Head Creek to Airlie Beach, we hoisted our Code 0 sail for the very first time! Along the way, we were treated to incredible whale encounters — including a special ‘whale welcome’ at the Percy Islands. But with an urgent vet visit ahead, it quickly turned into a mad dash to Airlie Beach. Join us on this leg of the journey filled with firsts, wildlife, and a race against time. If you’d like to support our journey and get behind-the-scenes content, early access, and more, you can join our crew and love to welcome you aboard. 💙 A huge thank you to everyone supporting us on Patreon — you truly help make this sailboat life possible Patreon- https://www.patreon.com/cw/Jesse_and_camille Sailing life in 2025 gave us everything — freedom, fear, laughter, and lessons we’ll never forget. These are our best, worst, and scariest moments at sea, captured exactly as they happened, raw, unfiltered, and real. This year took us from beginners learning as we went to more confident sailors chasing freedom on the water. Along the way there were unforgettable days, hard moments, and a few that genuinely scared us , balanced by beauty, fun, and the simple joy of living at sea. This video isn’t scripted. It’s not polished. It’s just humans living at sea , learning, growing, messing up, and loving every part of it. If you’ve ever dreamed of sailing, living off grid, or choosing a different path, this video shows the full reality , the best, the worst, and the scariest, and why we’d still choose this life again. 👇 Let us know in the comments which moment stood out to you most ⛵ Subscribe to follow our journey at sea 🏴☠️ Join our Patreon for behind-the-scenes sailing life, raw days, and extra moments 💙 A huge thank you to everyone supporting us on Patreon — you truly help make this sailboat life possible. It’s Respect for the Aged Day here in Japan 🇯🇵—a national holiday that began back in 1947 as “Old Folks Day” before being renamed in the ’60s. I just learned that you officially qualify as “aged” here at 70… which makes me a newbie to the celebration! Here in the village of Buren, where I’m moored with my sailboat Wahine, they’ve welcomed me into their community festival. And in true local style, the holiday is combined with their love of Sumo—complete with a parade where, yes, I’ll be joining in. This is Day 1 of my 30-day solo journey through Japan, exploring longevity, resilience, and the traditions that shape aging well.
Gibraltar is always a really interesting place to sail to, in fact it's somewhere every sailor should visit at least once. We've been many times and always discover new things and enjoy our time here. The anchorage here is good but it's on the Spanish side, La Linea, so it's much more convenient to visit the marinas in Gibraltar itself and our favourite is Ocean Village which has some of the best facilities of any marina and is perfectly positioned in the heart of Gib. We had a mix of weather during our stay, but enough warm dry weather to get the varnishing done. I remember usually waiting until at least May to get this sort of work done in the UK so it's great to do it in March. Gibraltar usually has a cable car to get up the rock, so we usually go up in that and walk back down, however it's having a major refurb so will be out of action for a couple of years. This ends up being a good thing as we look for other ways to explore and find a great bike shop right by Ocean Village that rents eBikes, our favourite! We can thoroughly recommend hiring eBikes to explore the rock, it kakes it possible to get around all the good stuff, the caves, the siege tunnels and also the WW2 tunnels which had been closed for a long time so this was our first visit to them. We are very impressed with the Awotrol D1-D2 varnish we are using so far. It goes on easily and looks good. The real test of course though will be how well it lasts. The other thing we were very impressed by was the fishing reel from 'Fish:Helm' which seems like a very good robust design, I'm very much looking forward to using it. You can take a look at their website here: https://www.fishhelm.com/helm If you come to Gibraltar then we definitely recommend an eBike so talk to Stuart at ebike gibraltar: https://ebike-gibraltar.com/ Also you may remember we were trying to find good sailing clothes at METS earlier in the year after a very expensive Musto jacket that we bought in Annapolis just fell apart. Well we opted to get some gear from Henri Lloyd who are really focusing on their sail wear now and have some excellent gear. We've been very happy with the items we got at METS and said so & now Henri Lloyd are offering our viewers a discount, even better! Farewell, Annapolis. It's time for this handcrafted wooden sailboat to keep cruising South towards warmer weather. After visiting a few quiet anchorages in the Chesapeake, Robin, and Akiva stop for a few days in Seaford to get some "life stuff" done...but not before getting the boat stuck in the mud. Fortunately, "Southern hospitality" is a real thing, and there was no shortage of helping hands to get Akiva to shore and help pass the time waiting for the tide to rise. Planning around tides is tricky business when the days are long, but the daylight is short... Prior to heading into the Dismal Swamp Canal, Steve rigs a 45 lb. Mantus anchor on the stern—or, as he likes to say, he "gave Arabella some brakes." Using a stern anchor will help them safely anchor in tight, congested areas, preventing Arabella from swinging where she shouldn't. After a quick, Christmassy visit to Colonial Williamsburg, Steve and Robin head out of Seaford (at high tide, this time), navigating a very foggy Chesapeake River, and making their way through Norfolk, VA, one of the busiest shipping corridors in the United States and the largest naval base in the world. A few bridges, and voilà...Arabella makes it out of Norfolk and into the Swamp. But more about that next week... -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! in this week's Sailing Jaygo video we clear Quarantine, Customs, Immigration & Harbour Master in Saumlaki, Indonesia. Many sailors use an agent to smooth this process, but where is the fun in that? We also donate some school supplies & a soccer ball to a local school.
I just sailed 4.000 nautical miles - solo across the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Sint Maarten. In this video I will do a recap for the journey, talk about what I learned and what I can do better next time. ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. We lock out from the IJsselmeer lake into the Atlantic sea and begin our journey south through the English Channel. With fast winds on our side, we sail along the coasts of the Netherlands and Belgium, and finally make it to France. 🇫🇷 Along the way, we reunite with our friends, who recently had the unfortunate accident of hitting an unmarked buoy in the dark while sailing to Helgoland. It’s a very happy reunion, not only for us but for our dogs too.❤️ ⚓️ This video is made in collaboration with gearcraftdepot.se – a brand new webshop with everything you need for your boat! 📍 Route: Enkhuizen (Netherlands) to Dunkirk (France) ⛵ Distance sailed: 1228 Nautical Miles 🧑✈️ Crew: Erik, Linn & Nora the dachshund If you're new to our channel, welcome! 🩵 We’re Linn and Erik, a Swedish couple in our late 20s who quit our jobs, rented out our apartment, and set off to sail from Stockholm to the Mediterranean together with our sausage dog. We started the journey in our unique 33 foot sailboat from 1980, which we sold in Kiel, and luckily one week after we bought a new boat, a Bavaria 37, from 2000 more suited for our adventures ahead. 🔔 If you love real-life sailing stories and adventures where we learn as we go, don’t forget to subscribe and join us on the journey! 🎬 Check out our playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW5XfQ-xoWeiR4Qz3KvF2MUCGtbJkeKH1&si=PukfUHKAogVbThtg 📱 Follow us on Instagram for more updates: / sailanddoxie #sailing #sailinglife #sailboat #adventure #boatlife #lifestyle #sailors
