Zum Bootspreis kommen Transitlog, Endreinigung, zusätzliche Ausrüstung, Nationalparkgebühren, Liegeplätze, Diesel und Versicherungen. Diese Kosten lassen sich relativ gut im Vorfeld kalkulieren, werden aber oft nicht sauber kommuniziert. Komplexer wird es bei jenen Aufwänden, die nicht auf einer Rechnung stehen. Zeit für Planung, Organisation, Buchung, Ausbildung und Verantwortung der Skipperin oder des Skippers. Auch wenn diese Leistungen im Freundeskreis oft freiwillig erbracht werden, gehören sie zur ehrlichen Kostenbetrachtung zumindest gedanklich dazu. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist die Bordkasse. Unterschiedlicher Konsum, Restaurantbesuche, Alkohol oder spezielle Essgewohnheiten führen schnell zu Spannungen, wenn vorher nicht darüber gesprochen wird. We don’t live in Port Protection, Alaska full time, but we’ve been here for a stretch working on a remote project, and this is what our days look like while we’re here. With foundation work paused while the concrete sets, we head out by skiff to Point Baker. Spend the day working on outboards, troubleshooting small engines, and sorting through a stack of generators to see what can be brought back to life. Back in Port Protection, the tide is coming up and the timbers we staged for the project need to be moved before they float off. We paddle out and get them higher above the waterline before the next high tide. This is day-to-day life working in remote Alaska. Boat access, changing weather, mechanical problem solving, and staying ahead of the tides. Nous sommes arrivés à Rotoava, la localité principale de Fakarava. Située au Nord-Ouest de l'atoll, Rotoava, dispose de plusieurs épiceries, restaurants et centres de plongée. Nous avons utilisé les services de Kaina Plongée pour effectuer deux plongées dans la passe Nord. Ces plongées étaient magnifiques et à notre avis plus impressionnantes que la plongée que nous avons effectué dans la passe Sud. On profite des épiceries pour faire l'avitaillement et acheter chez un producteur de bananes un régime entier, car la prochaine destination Toau il n'y a rien !
