We wake up to find ourselves in a picture perfect anchorage known as the Hot Tub. My morning routine is interrupted by a terrible noise from the forward head. Yep, it's a code brown.... Well there goes my peaceful morning. The day greatly improves as we find ourselves exploring our very own little island, which we share with nothing more than a few pelicans. Seirra becomes a beachcomber and collects a bunch of treasures before we drag her back home, only to return shortly to a beach-cruiser BBQ where Plukky feeds Kazaa a perfectly cooked fish eyeball. My day only improves when Plukky convinces me to quite work early for the day and instead head out for a kiting session! First week on board and what a rollercoaster of emotion it was. Having just bought and moved onto our dream sailing boat, we were hit with the obstacle of where to keep it. Being told to leave (with all marinas, everywhere full), is just not really what you want to hear when you have just bought something 40ft..however, our luck changed and we managed to find a space. However, we weren't out of the woods yet, we had to move the boat for the first time and then a storm hit and we spent the next few days sheltering from the rain and consistently checking our mooring lines. Plummeted head first into the harsh reality of boat life (but wouldn't wish for it to be any different)! 〰️〰️〰️〰️ Episode 2 I Chapter 1: Beginning Boat Life [UK] 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 👪 Join the Tribe on our *Patreon* https://www.patreon.com/teulutribe 👕Pick up some *Merch* https://www.teulutribe.com/ 📷 Find us over on *Instagram* https://www.instagram.com/teulutribe/ 💬 Connect with us on *Facebook* https://www.facebook.com/teulutribe/ 🛠️ Teulu’s always trying to break herself, our *Amazon Wishlist* is here https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2045NNIGRTMQT?ref_=wl_share ☕ Treat us to a *Cup of Tea* https://www.buymeacoffee.com/teulutribe 📧 *Business Enquires* teulutribe@gmail.com ☑️ *Subscribe* for a new video every Monday *About Our Boat* - Name pronunciation (Tay-Lee), its Welsh, feel free to call her Too-Loo/Te-a-lu/Teaugukug/Tulu - 1987 Colvic Victor Ketch - 40ft/12m - Two Cabins - Encapsulated Keel and Skeg-Hung Rudder - 13 Tonnes *About Us* We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit #sailing #boatlife

Sailing a boat relies on several things to be aligned. This video shows the six things that we think are important. They are Wind awareness, Sail Setting, Boat Balance, Boat Trim, Course sailed, Centreboard position. In this video we show you what to do with each of them. When aligned you will sail better and in more control. Sailing is a skill that is a combination of the 6 factors we show you. By mastering these you will quickly identify yourself what to do when afloat. These essential skills are the basis of everything to do in the boat. It applies to small boats but also larger yachts although these are less manoeuvrable
It's happening! Time to transit the Panama Canal & we're doing it without an Agent. Join our crew on Patreon and become a BIGGER part of the adventure: http://bit.ly/patreon-wynn Get all the Details of our trip here: https://gonewiththewynns.com/no-agent-transit-panama-canal Subscribe and Keep in touch: https://gonewiththewynns.com/join-us There's a lot of misinformation, and fear mongering, out there about the Panama Canal. All of the cruising guides we read said something along the lines of: _you should definitely hire an agent, it's too difficult to attempt on your own_. Many of the cruisers we spoke to said the same and several of the other YouTube videos we watched all used agents. So when we asked our friends Rufus and Kate who transited the canal 2016 without an agent, their response: It's CRAZY easy and you can totally do the canal without an agent. We weren't totally convinced it was going to be a breeze so we decided to document the process and share it. So join us as we Sail to Colon to begin the process of transiting the Panama Canal without an Agent. We share way more info on our website. Sailing the world can be dangerous. Storms, rogue waves, strong currents, and poorly charted waters. We are constantly forced to confront nature in these risky situations And not only have I come to terms with that fact, its actually one of my favorite aspects of this lifestyle. There is something elevating about grappling with the harsh, indifferent aspects of nature and reaping the rewards. But this week we deal with a very different kind of danger, one that I feel much less comfortable with… other boaters, lots and lots of other boaters. For the last couple of weeks we’ve been exploring the Southern Ionian Islands of Greece, which are a bit off the beaten path and not terribly crowded but now that we’re in the Northern Ionian Islands of Greece we find ourselves in one of the most popular cruising grounds in the world and unfortunately due to the delays we experienced by Isabella's medical appointments, we are here in the busiest time of year. Now if the hoards of boats were simply making these pristine anchorages feel crowded, I wouldn't mind so much but time and again we find ourselves forced into situations that are down right dangerous. So it begs the question whether visiting one of the worlds most beautiful cruising grounds is worth the trouble. Immersing yourself in the wonders and beauty of the seas for weeks on end has never felt more comfortable than when you’re onboard the Grand Trawler 62. Designed exclusively to let you travel non-stop and uninterrupted for days on end in pure luxury, the Grand Trawler 62 is the latest evolution in yachts. A yacht that lets you voyage in style for long periods, enjoying the peace and tranquility that only ocean exploration can provide. The key to the success of this style of boat, indeed any type of long voyaging craft, is to combine autonomy with performance. And having built over 1300 Swift Trawlers, BENETEAU is firmly established at the top of the trawler market. Learn more: https://www.beneteau.com/us/grand-trawler/grand-trawler-62 -- About BENETEAU -- The first BENETEAU boats sailed from the shipyards of Croix-de-Vie over 135 years ago. Since that time, the BENETEAU brand has been synonymous with quality and innovation to all those who have taken to the water – first by the fishermen who made their livelihood from the sea and then by the legions of recreational boaters around the globe. Over the years, our commitment to innovating and embracing ideas, no matter how unconventional, has been at the forefront of who we are in order to bring you the best boat possible. BENETEAU was one of the first boatbuilders many years ago to use computer-aided design (CAD) as well as lighter, stronger composite building materials. We’ve also been at the cutting edge of using greener materials and processes to do our part in protecting the incredible world which we explore. However, all this innovation doesn’t mean we’ve turned our back on tradition. One thing we’ve discovered in over a century of boatbuilding is that new-world innovations work best with old-school craftsmanship. This combination has resulted in some of the most iconic sailboats and powerboats in the world – supremely seaworthy yachts renowned for their sense of style, luxury, and comfort along with their creative use of space and new technologies. -- Philosophy -- We’re a lot like you. We love the water in all its forms – the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers. And we love sharing the boating lifestyle with our family and friends. This love manifests itself in every BENETEAU built in any one of our many manufacturing facilities worldwide. Every BENETEAU sailboat and powerboat on the water reflects the best efforts of the finest architects, designers, and craftsmen along with the highest quality materials and the latest innovations. When you purchase a BENETEAU, you become a valued member of our BENETEAU family. For this reason, our after-sale service is second to none as evidenced by the multitude of National Marine Manufacturers CSI Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. At the core of this outstanding service is our exceptional dealer network. Every one of our authorized BENETEAU dealers will be there for you – from choosing the right yacht to the handover and beyond. Your dealer will be your able guide when it comes to maintaining your boat properly and will help you maximize the return on your investment when it comes time to step up to another BENETEAU – and it usually does! We wouldn’t have it any other way. We ended up spending a week in Mole St Nicolas. During that time, we tackled a few boat projects, enjoyed a few super cheap meals at the local hotel, and even went sailing with our friend Jimmy. After a few days in the BEST anchorage in Haiti, we were sad to leave such a wonderful place and such wonderful people, but we were also really excited to head out and set sail towards Cap Haitien. Our bilge has been completely rebuilt. And now it's time to use whatever it takes to make it smooth. Fairing, sanding, painting, flow coat? peel ply? Who knows. The reason we want it smooth is because we want it to look good after all our hard work, no way could we leave it half done! And the other is functional, a smooth bilge is much easier to clean and help keep our boat from smelling like a gross old boat! In this video, we are looking at our own boat, Polar Seal, our Beneteau oceanis 40 from 2007, and how much it cost us to buy her, how much we pay in maintenance and insurance each year, as well as our monthly marina and fuel budget. As someone pointed out in the last video, the costs associated which each of our boats are the results of choices that we made! Today, we’re giving you a look into our choices: in what context we bought our boat and the criteria we had before buying her. We then give you a quick tour our boat and talk about how she is equipped. If you want the absolute full tour of the boat, I’ve made a 20 minutes video that shows all her corners, which you can check out also at the link above me. In this video, we’ll also talk about what we think are the pros and cons of our boat, and will end by telling you how much she cost us to purchase, to maintain and to cruise. In this episode we finally leave the marina after a 10 month refit, and sail to Playa Blanca! After an amazing time there, we get set to leave for the infamous San Blas Islands, but we lose our water maker the day we are set to leave, so we are not sure if we can get out there in the during the one day weather window to get out there!!! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. This week in Martinique we get all the jobs done on Merewether, from fixing the rigging to cushion and SUP board shopping. Kieran spends more time up the mast then on land and I stock up on organic vegan goodies for the future crossing. Safe to say we need a break after these weeks, smashing out jobs left right and centre. I manage to drag Kieran away for some water adventures and mountain exploring. Now we are ready to head west across the pacific ocean! Join our crew! We are looking for new crew to join in the future journey. It is rare to come across a vessel that simply takes your breath away and leaves you speechless. ”Rain Bear” is design #108 from the desk of Paul Gartside, a highly respected Naval Architect known for his creative and stunning designs. "RAIN BEAR" was launched in 2020, being the culmination 20 years of fastidious work by the talented builders. The workmanship is second to none and materials selected are of the finest quality. Paul Gartside has drawn several of these ideal West Coast Pilothouses and describes them as a husky vessel ideal for "comfortable coastal cruising that is hard to beat. The large wheelhouse, inside steering, and diesel heaters make travelling easy and enjoyable even when the weather is wet and cold. Rain Bear's replacement cost would be well in excess of $1.4M . Material costs alone would be close to her asking price. This is truly an amazing opportunity for those who appreciate the fine art of wooden boats. What do you think?
