My worst nightmare! Waking up in the middle of the night and discovering that our dinghy is missing! We pulled up anchor and set off in search of it and miraculously found the dinghy floating down wind on the ocean about a mile away. At that point one of our engines started indication it was over heating. We shut the engine down and limped back to the anchorage and spent the next two days working to resolve the issue. Devastating episode about how I lost my dog Marty to a blood infection, while I was away working on a Superyacht. This also leaves our other dog McFly without a brother, so it was a tremendously tough event for all of us... On a lighter note, we manage to raise a decent amount of money for a couple of local communities in Panama, so the episode ends on a high note. We’re off again to see another catamaran — this time to Seattle. We fly from San Diego, hop a few trains, ride a couple ferries and even inflate a paddle board to get to the boat, which is moored on Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands. Kirk knows about this particular catamaran because his childhood friend from Michigan actually crewed on the boat in the Chicago-to-Mackinac race a few years ago. The boat is an Offshore 38 called “Nice Pair.” It’s fast, and Kirk’s smitten. Lauren wants to know: Where’s the kitchen sink? Ahh details, details. When I arrived in Cape Verde after a hectic passage from Lanzarote, I was feeling so emotionally drained and fatigued that I wasn't sure if I would continue my journey across the Atlantic solo, or in fact, at all. Its our last week in the Philippines, and our buddy boat won't let us leave without trying Balut, which is a fertilized duck egg that has been incubated for 2-3 weeks and then steamed or boiled before eating. The embryo is well developed already, which made it even more disturbing. On a lighter note, the UNESCO world heritage site called Tubbataha reef that we visited had some of the best diving we have done in a while! And the ranger live out there for 60 days at a time, surviving on whatever they bring with them, and are there to protect the site. Very admirable! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across through Asia headed for the Indian Ocean!!
