After months of sitting out storms and strong winds, we get a favorable weather report to head out to the Great Barrier Reef. Our first stop is Fitzroy Reef in the Capricorn Bunker group, a reef lagoon anchorage offering world class diving and fishing. Being Teak, they have escaped rot, but have a lot of damaged areas and holes that need to be filled with plugs and graving pieces. The planks are joined together with vertical splines and fastened to the stern of the boat. Woohoo! We made it through the famous Corinth Canal - Greece. The canal is 8m deep and excavated at sea level so it doesn’t need any locks. It took them 12 years to make it and it was first opened in 1893. The canal shaves off a 700km journey around the Peloponnese peninsula and around 11,000 ships pass through each year, mostly small vessels that can handle the narrowness and are able to dodge the result of landslides the sit under the surface. #268 Hello, yeah, look, we blew up the quadbike. Or it blew up on us. And it wasted our day. And it gave out in the middle of a highway and we nearly melted in the sun. And yet, yet, this is the Azores. And being the Azores, nothing can actually go that far wrong, because pretty much wherever you are, wherever you look, it's beautiful and green and peaceful. Keep an eye out for the only tea plantation in Europe, with some of the best tea you can get. Turns out I've been having my tea wrong all my life and there's this one weird old trick.... Otherwise we're setting up shop on Sao Miguel. We'll be staying on land for a while because we know we're gonna have to spend some serious time here and it's going to be near impossible to leave.
