Originally built in 1972, Durbeck made some really heavy duty cruising yachts, built to go anywhere. The hulls on the fiberglass Durbecks are extremely thick and overbuilt, leading to a heavy-displacement cruiser like this one. In our opinions, this boat is a great deal for what it is. All old boats need work, but this one is pretty ready to move aboard and start a cruising lifestyle. The biggest things I would tackle would be the electronics, sails, and some cosmetic work, but for the price you can't beat this boat. I doubt you'll find a cheaper boat over 50 feet in this good of condition. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This boat has been sold! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. SIGN UP FOR EARLY ACCESS HERE: http://findingparadise.ca After an epic few months hanging out in New Zealand it was time to Go! There was a definite chill in the air. The bilges were full of provisions and we were finally ready. Leaving port and going offshore is a decision we don't take lightly. One that includes pouring over weather forecasts in the weeks preceding our departure. Analyzing wave heights, swell period, wind and gust maps. Planning for alternate routes and ports. There's a lot that goes into it. A lot of practice. Perhaps we were a bit out of practice having summered in New Zealand? The passage from New Zealand to Fiji is one that includes a point of no return. A point where the only thing you can do is turn more downwind. And that is what we did. Our initial course had us stopping over in a place called Minerva Reef. After three days of bashing into waves with no end in sight and sailing angles that were getting tighter and tighter we pulled the trigger to skip beautiful Minerva reef. So hopefully this video gives you an idea of how wet and wild it can get out here. Yes, it's not super comfy but it can still be fun in it's own wierd, quirky way. Not to mention, it makes that first beer in that calm anchorage even sweeter! Woot! we're back in the tropics!!! ABSOLUTE YACHTS: https://bit.ly/nautistyles Another 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival WORLD PREMIERE on the Channel! ABSOLUTE YACHTS did it again with this brand New Model: great layout, tons of innovative features, and sleek design. I definitely belong to the "flybridge loving" boater type, but we have lots of friends and clients who just love the sporty look of Cruisers and Coupes, so for each their own as they say 🤷♀️ But I have to be honest, on the interior of this yacht you completely forget that's it's a 48 and a Coupe, it's very spacious and roomy. Get ready to geek out with Rico at the helm, as he explains how this yacht can basically "dock itself"... oh yes, not kidding! After two incredible months in Raja Ampat the crew pulls up the hook and sets sail for Ternate Island in the Muluku Province. We see squalls, calms, and wind from every direction. With our motor broken the sail is slow but peaceful. We dodge some more squalls, catch a Mahi-Mahi and Barracuda, and get visited by a massive pod of dolphins that play in our bow wake for hours. My name is Leo and I am an English Boatbuilder on a mission to rebuild and relaunch a historic wooden sailing vessel that was built in 1910, called TALLY HO. Firstly, thanks for watching and reading. This project is the biggest thing I have ever undertaken, and it's both labour-intensive and expensive. I am experienced, hardworking and dedicated, but I will struggle to finish this project without the support of people like yourself. When I considered taking on TALLY HO to save her from being destroyed, I knew the amount of work and expense would be extraordinary. As I thought about ways to tackle it, I developed the idea of documenting the rebuild, and involving volunteers. I hoped this would not only help make the restoration possible, but also turn it into a wider-reaching project that will be of interest and benefit to a range of boatbuilding and sailing enthusiasts, and also introduce others to the craft and the way of life that has bought me so much satisfaction. Having moved the boat 600 miles to a site on the Olympic Peninsular, WA, the rebuild is now progressing well. We are still in the deconstruction phase, although I am currently sourcing large amounts of timber to start putting fresh wood back into the boat early in the New Year (2018). I have begun to take on volunteers, and although the documentation takes a lot of time, it is generating great support all around the world. I hope to restore TALLY HO with as much historical accuracy as possible, whilst maintaining the highest standards of materials and workmanship, so that she will last for at least another 107 years. Eventually I plan to sail the boat back from the Pacific NW to the UK, which will be a journey worth documenting in itself, and race her in the famous Fastnet Race, which she won in 1927. Although I have been saving money as hard as I can for the last few years, this project promises to be ludicrously expensive. The cost of timber and of bronze fabrications will be the first major hurdles, but I am perfectly willing to return to paid work periodically to top up the funds. Any financial support I receive through Patreon / PayPal donations will help me to keep this project flowing and minimise those interruptions, helping to pay for timber, tools and materials, food and expenses, filming equipment, and so on and so on. I want my videos to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their means, so I will not be featuring much "patron-exclusive" content. However, credit to individual Patrons will be given in my videos, and I am working on a range of ideas, such as unique gifts, that will show Patrons my appreciation for their help in saving this historic sailing yacht.
If you like BOAT WORK this video is for you :). We haul Delos out of the water for some well needed maintenance! Brian dives head first into what feels like a million projects... Sanding, painting, patching blisters in the keel, fixing a corroded through hull, servicing the prop and bow thruster just to mention a few. I’ve always admired Brian’s incredible work ethic and the way he can pretty much fix anything AKA “McGyver” :) haha! Hope you enjoyed seeing this other side of what its like to live on a sailboat full time. Many HUGS! Kazza, Brian and little Sierra PS. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Things We're Most Curious About... GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving.
