Planning is one of the most important aspects of sailing around the world. We often spend days or weeks researching new countries and the Philippines was no exception. Most round-the-world cruisers pass through Indonesia. It's safe. There is lots of information from previous sailors. But that doesn't necessarily make it the best route. After reading all we could about the Philippines we made a map and plotted where all the recent pirate attacks happened. Turns out they are all in the southern Sulu Sea. Nordhavn 47 SEABIRD has traveled north to Alaska, spending a couple of years in the Northwest before heading south back to California, on to Mexico and then exploring central America. Cutting through the Panama Canal they ventured through the Caribbean and then used Florida as their stepping off place to sail eastward. SEABIRD crossed the Atlantic on her own bottom. Two glorious years were spent cruising the Mediterranean before shipping back to the US as on deck cargo aboard a freighter due to other commitments. A veteran of four different summer trips to Alaska and extensive cruising that included ocean passages, island hopping and exploring remote coves and isolated shores. She eventually meandered back to their home port of Santa Barbara, an appropriate and special home for this wonderful trawler. The lock gate on the marina broke so when the tide went out the water left the marina. Total disaster! The boat ended up aground and tipped over so it was resting on the edge of the pontoon. Rolf und Bärbel haben sich 2018 mit uns eine Jeanneau SO 37 angeschaut und auch gekauft, um damit Segeln zu lernen. Das haben wir in BootsProfis-Folge #2 gezeigt. Nun haben sie viel Erfahrung sammeln können und möchten sich vergrößern. Für die neu gewonnene Leidenschaft muss ein neueres und komfortableres Segelboot her. Die beiden haben sich in die Bavaria Vision verliebt und beide aktuellen Versionen, die 46er und 42er, waren im Gespräch. Wir haben für die Ostsee klar von der großen Variante abgeraten und letztlich hat sich auch die kleinere Variante durchgesetzt. Spontan wie die beiden sind, haben sie sich eine 42er in Holland angeschaut und direkt verbindlich zugesagt, nachdem das Boot nur einen Tag inseriert war. Und genau dieses Segelboot begutachten wir in diesem Video. In aller Regel suchen wir ja nach Schiffen für die Langfahrt und die moderne Großserie gehört aus verschiedenen Gründen nicht zu den Zielen unserer Suchen. Und das merkt man Hendrik hier und da während der Inspektion auch an. Wie ihr wisst, sind wir ehrlich in unserer Meinung - nichtsdestotrotz gehört der Schiffstyp im Vergleich wohl zu den besseren der Großserienboote. Ob dieses Exemplar Mängel und Defekte hat und was wir nun genau von der Bavaria Vision halten, das erfahrt ihr im Video - heute mal wieder ein deutlich längeres ;) Viel Spaß damit! In this episode we show you Boston through our eyes and we set sail for the Cape Cod Canal. Delos is rocked by a huge swell and Sierra gets her first real bout of seasickness :( We walk the historic Freedom Trail of Boston and tour the Boston Naval Shipyard where we get to explore a WWII Destroyer and the historic USS Constitution, aka Old Iron Sides. It's incredible to view naval technology spanning two centuries, literally docked right next to each other! We then continue our trip south with eyes on the Cape Code Canal. Als wir in Griechenland unterwegs wegen, um unter Anderem mit Beat zwei Katamarane zu besichtigen, haben wir bei Conny und Martin vorbei geschaut. Die beiden haben uns für ein Kennenlernen auf ihr Segelboot eingeladen und zeigen uns in diesem Video ihr sehr spezielles Schiff. Es ist nicht das, was wir persönlich präferieren würden, aber wir finden das Konzept dennoch sehr interessant. Es ist ein Stahlschiff von der Feltz-Werft in sehr sehr gutem Zustand, allerdings mit wirklich besonderen Eigenschaften... Beispielsweise ist es ein Kimmkieler mit jeweils einem Motor IN den Kielen. Alles ist sehr massiv konstruiert und das Schiff macht auf uns den Eindruck, als ob es sich im Mittelmeer einfach langweilt. Damit kann man sicherlich in kältere und stürmischere Regionen dieser Erde segeln. Dafür ausgerüstet ist es jedenfalls. Wer weiß - möglicherweise macht das auch jemand damit, denn Conny und Martin wollen es verkaufen, ihre eigene Auszeit per Segelboot neigt sich dem Ende.
