In Episode 56 of the Sailing Goat Series, we step off the boat thinking we’re about to join the Preveza Carnival celebrations… but we couldn’t have been more wrong. Instead of music and costumes, we find the entire city dressed in black, mourning a national tragedy—a train wreck in 2023 that claimed over 50 lives, linked to government corruption. What we thought was going to be a party turned into a powerful and emotional moment of reflection. Despite the unexpected shift in mood, the week brought a few sailing wins. We received our new petrol electric generator, and it worked wonders—charging the boat batteries while running the watermaker at the same time. Efficiency unlocked! Meanwhile, Max tried his luck with another DIY project—Frankensteining two Victron cables into one. Let’s just say… it’s not looking too promising. 💃 Carnival Confusion Turned Memorial March: We geared up to celebrate Carnival in Preveza but walked right into a nationwide protest and day of mourning, commemorating the victims of a devastating 2023 train crash. A moment that reminded us sailing is about witnessing all aspects of life ashore—not just the fun stuff. ⚡ Petrol Generator Game-Changer: Our new petrol electric generator arrived and instantly became a hero on board. For the first time, we were able to charge the house batteries and run the watermaker at the same time, giving us a huge boost in self-sufficiency. 🧪 Victron Cable Experiment: Max took on another boat project, attempting to merge two Victron cables into one for a custom setup. Spoiler: it’s not going well. But hey—boat life is about learning, right? 🌊 Sailing Life = Unexpected Life: From political protests to power upgrades, this episode has it all. Sailing isn’t just anchorages and sunsets—it’s surprises, experiments, and learning to go with the flow. 💬 Join the Conversation: Have you ever been surprised by cultural or political events while cruising? Or made an onboard DIY attempt that went sideways? This is a full tour of our new to us "old school super yacht". She needs work, but is going to be amazing. What do you all think?! If you are interested in buying our previous boat, Supernova, a beautiful fully kitted out Prout Quasar 50, please send us an email at: sailingsupernova@gmail.com Supernova has tons of upgrades. 4kw solar, 2600 AH of lifpo4 lithium batteries. Full electric galley, watermaker, 2 years new electronics including auto pilot, radar and 16 inch chartplotter. Custom dinghy lift where you can leave the engine on (comes with 10.5 rib with almost new 20hp motor), new mainsail and jib, 14 foot by 7 foot custom hard top, dive compressor, two electric toilets with 2x 100 litre blackwater tank, put in 3 new fridge/freezer units, new prop shafts, 8 new underwater lights. We took the bottom down to gel-coat and put 6 layers of barrier coat on before new bottom paint (that was 3 years ago) and we replaced every through hull. We installed two new prop shafts and aquadrives. It has 4 staterooms, one oversized queen bed, one queen bed and to double beds with 4 heads but we are using 2 heads as just storage. You can live remote on this boat for months and months without needing to resupply (3 fridge/freezers, crazy amount of solar and giant lithium batteries etc). It still needs some cosmetic work inside and a couple of things here and there, but could cross oceans right now as is. We love this boat but we are aware we aren't going to get back anywhere near the money we put into her. If you're interested, let us know... we are very open to discuss any reasonable offers. ⚓️ Subscribe for more real-life real-time sailing adventures! 👍 Like the video if you love sailing! #aluminumsailboat #aluminumboat #boatyard How much does an Alubat Ovni cost? We've published the price of a very well-equipped sailboat on our website for you to view. https://alubatamerica.com/ Is Alubat a semi-custom boat builder? Technically, yes. We're not talking about custom woodwork and layout changes (though that is available to a limited extent), we're focused on what we call technical customizations. By tapping into the the depth of knowledge available in a region rooted in a ship building culture, Alubat has access to a multitude of resources to work with the client on their specific requirements including electrical systems, navigation integrations, and propulsion customizations.
This is a somewhat atypical "Price of Sailing" video. Instead of broad estimates, I'm pulling out the invoice and breaking down the boat's cost line by line. Even though I personally selected the options on the invoice, some of the final numbers even caught me by surprise! The Hallberg Rassy 44 is a beautifully crafted, well built yacht, thoughtfully equipped with premium fittings and accessories. It is an investment in quality. When I placed my order in February 2022, I recall being unfamiliar with many of the options I was choosing. My hope is that this video will help future buyers navigate the unknown terrain of a brand new boat purchase, offering insights and advice along the way. Author notes : I’m 54 years old, and I frequently see people having heart attacks younger than me. The question often comes up in my mind: What am I saving this money for? A few years ago, I made the decision to jump in, throw down a big deposit and see what happens. Buying a used boat on the Chesapeake wouldn’t have had the same effect as purchasing a brand-new boat from Sweden—one that somehow had to eventually make its way to the USA. This was a forced adventure on my part and Tom from a few years ago is still influencing me today. That decision has revealed parts of the world I never would have dreamed of seeing. The million dollars is gone, but I consider it fully reimbursed in joy and adventure.

Four races were held on Day 1 of the Rolex Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix and with 12 F50s on the start line, getting a good start was difficult, but often key to getting a good result. Mark Jardine, Managing Editor of Sail-World.com and YachtsandYachting.com, takes a look at the different strategies and what positions paid off, and also looks at Rockwool Team Denmark's collision with a leeward gate mark, which resulted in the loss of the sacrificial tip of their port T foil.
This brand deserves SO much more attention that it's currently receiving. In this video we discover the Delta 33 Open which has been customised for an American (& Aussie) climate. Fitted with a great t-top and outboard motors this is more than a day boat because she'll sleep 4 people and has a decent head below. The styling is super cool, you feel special and as we discover in part 2 of this series she also drives like she looks. If you are at a stage where you have enjoyed your boat life during the day and now you're ready to extend it to the occasional overnight then this is a size of boat that will pack in everything you need without being so large that you need to upgrade to a larger dock. We LOVE hearing from you all and we are getting heaps of encouragement from all the support, views, likes and comments. Subscribe if you want to follow along and help grow our channel and keep us motivated to continue making great videos every week for you! We have big plans, adventure hard and move fast. See you next Friday! Yvette🦘 and Darcy🍁 ...and Coconut! 🐈 Sailing Supernova ⛵
