In this 2 part series we will be refinishing the Butterfly Hatch on the deck of the boat. This is a teak hatch with bronze hardware. In the first episode we will cover disassembly, removing all old finish, sanding the wood and preparing for a recoat. In the next episode we will cover surface preemption for finish, varnishing including the thinning of the first 2 coats to ensure good penetration and adherence to the wood, raising the layers, and re-assembly. Fort Lauderdale is the "Venice of the USA" with over 300 miles of canals. We motored inland along canals that got narrower and narrower, with boats tied up to waterfront houses. I was amazed me by the number of catamarans we saw. Certainly numbering in the hundreds, pretty much every canal had at least one. The vast majority were over 40ft and an even bigger majority were French or S African built.

Paul rents a unique vehicle called a Magoo and as he travels the island he meets fun-loving locals and samples a lot of wine. On to Stromboli, an active volcano which for centuries has erupted every 15 to 20 minutes and is known as the oldest lighthouse in the Mediterranean. The Shards ride one of the island ferries and do a night climb of Stromboli and get a spectacular view of the eruptions.

The rally fleet is back in Indonesia after a few months of interlude in Malaysia and Thailand. The BPO participants were welcomed very warmly by BPKS in Sabang. The 4-day program included a City tour, Island tour, meeting with students and a Snorkeling tour with checking out the new Sabang Marina. Somehow, this is kind of relaxing and pretty. Try to guess the streets (aside from Van Ness) I recommend using the GoPro mount instead of the default rubber strap. The strap is either too loose, so the camera slips on bumpy roads, or it's too tight, and the mount eventually breaks. The GoPro mount also reduced some of the vibration of the strap mount, making for a cleaner video.
