Today's news is not good news unfortunately... this video is final tribute to my little buddy "LUCKY" the Pirate Parrot. Sadly, "LUCKY" passed a few months ago, which is largely the reason I've remained very quiet lately.. you can only imagine the change in energy onboard "Sophisticated Lady' with "LUCKY" gone. She was my constant companion while living aboard the past 15 years and she will be missed immensely. I hope you will join in giving her a proper send off, the least we can do for such a beautiful creature that touched and entertained so many. For day three of the RC44 World Championship, Sotogrande laid on the conditions for which it is famous: brilliant sunshine, wind regularly over 20 knots, monster shifts, but surprisingly flat water in the lee of the Andalusian coast. Appropriately local hero John Bassadone and his largely Spanish crew on Peninsula Petroleum Sailing Team were the star performers. Winning the first race brought them level with yesterday’s overall leader, Igor Lah’s Team CEEREF. The Gibraltar team followed this up with a 3-4, ending the day one point ahead. We replaced the old chainplates on this 1968 Alberg 30 using 316 stainless flat bar sized 1/4" x 1 1/2" and drilled for 3/8" bolts and 1/2" clevis pins. We then rounded the tops with a grinder and polished in our shop. The bulkheads and knees were strengthened as well. The boat will have 1/4" 316 1x19 stainless standing rigging with swaged upper ends and sta-lok lower ends. I generally no longer use polysulfide sealant such as Lifecaulk to bed the chain plates since I found it tends to lose its bond after a couple years. instead I pack the gap in chain plate to deck hole with butyl tape that gets compressed in place under the stainless caps and have yet to get a leak this way.

But, once again, it was shifty in extremis, with the wind generally lighter. As a result, none of the 11 international teams were impervious to high scores. Stand-out performer, as on day one, was Igor Lah's Team CEEREF, which claimed today's first two races. The Slovenian team followed this up with a fourth place, but picked up a penalty in the final race from which they could only salvage an eighth place, having at one point been last.
