Due to bad weather, after spending 22 days in port I finally set sail on what was to be the hardest part of my journey. I'd been dreading the 350 mile crossing of the notorious Bay of Biscay. With it's reputation for foul and dangerous conditions, I was under no illusions that for the next 7 days alone at sea I was to be tested. Next week is the last in the series. We also head to the Big Apple, New York, to see America’s Cup racing on the Hudson River against the spectacular Manhattan backdrop. This was the first time that Cup boats had raced here for 120 years. Women sailors were queuing around the block when a new Olympic class was announced for the 2016 Games. Three years later and the learning curve has been steep, but the results impressive. So who’s in the frame for a medal in Rio? Olympic expert Andy Rice lifts the lid on the women’s skiff and gives his predictions for Rio. And on the subject of the Games, there’s one nation that has been in the top three medal winners for years, but now they want more, Gold. We find out how they are planning for success out as we head to the Sailing World Cup in Hyères. Plus, news from around the world.

How is life aboard a sailboat during an offshore passage? In episode 14 you get to follow us along as we leave Lisbon for a 490 Nm downwind sail to the Madeira archipelago in the Atlantic. The voyage takes us 75 hours and we arrive to the wonderful island of Porto Santo. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe.
