We drop anchor at Great Harbour just in time for a serious cold front to blow in. Luckily, there's spiny lobster for dinner. The fun part is that even though we have an excellent spot for wind protection as the weather clocks around from the West to the North - we're wide open to a very rough, roll-inducing ocean swell that rocks the boat for days. So that, and also the fact that Tambi has been struggling with seasickness, makes for an arrival in the Bahamas that is a lot more stressful that we had anticipated. All is not lost though, because once the weather subsides, we are able to stretch out and begin enjoying this wonderful place that we've been dreaming about for months. Episode 5: Sailing from Balanced Rock Canyon, we enjoyed some great sailing all the way to the entrance of Forbidding Canyon just past 49 mile can. We motored up Forbidding Canyon to the cleft entrance to Rainbow Bridge. It's a pretty hike back to the 300' tall natural bridge with dinosaur tracks at the end of the public trail. Leaving forbidding canyon, the winds had picked up quite a bit and we had to motor to Dangling Rope Marina. Afterwards, it was a fun sail to Wetherill Canyon. We sailed all the way back into the canyon amongst narrow twisted channel which was a lot of fun! I have been trying to keep these vignettes 7 to 9 minutes long. This one ran long--and I left out so much cool go-pro footage from Forbidding Canyon! In this episode we sail through the roaring 40s and it was crazy! Definitely the most intense part of our 3000NM passage from South Africa to La Reunion. We had wind speeds of over 50kn, 23–32ft (7–10m) waves and in the middle of everything our autopilot breaks and it’s hand steering from now on! A bit of a tester as our new crew have not hand steered before. Our whole world was getting slammed and tossed around in the waves and I think Brady described it pretty well “It feels like if your driving a car, with your eyes closed on a bumpy dirt road for days. Cette petite vidéo montre de jeunes grimpeurs de très haut niveau, à l'entrainement, qui après quelques chutes bien sécurisées, réussissent à vaincre un surplomb impressionnant. REMARQUE : dans la dernière séquence, le co équipier au sol, assurant le grimpeur en action, semble ne pas se préoccuper de lui. Grosse erreur ! En réalité, il le suit avec la plus grande attention, pour enrayer une éventuelle chute, en utilisant des lunettes spéciales , à miroirs. Ces lunettes lui évitent, d'avoir à lever la tête en permanence en supprimant tout risque de crampes à la nuque.
