Footage of my first solo sail. After a short intro with Ashley, I sail with a symmetrical spinnaker without a spinnaker pole (or whisker pole). I reminisce about flying a kite as a young kid and the similarities to sailing. Some thunderstorm clouds begin to roll in, so I call it a day.

Unser vorerst letzter Schlag führt uns in das Rhone-Delta in den Golf von Fos, wo wir eine Nacht vor Anker verbringen. Im Port Navy-Service stellen wir die ORIZON ins Trockendock. This week we finally install and bed the stanchion bases. We really struggled with these and needed to find screws, nuts, washers and acorn nuts to make them look great from the inside and outside. Once these were all bedded (48 holes in the boat later), it was time to move on to other work. The teak cap and toe rails were sanded again in preparation for a coat of Awlwood MA. We also painted the ceiling in the galley. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint does to the look and the light inside the boat. The crazy thing is that we are going to be putting insulation and a new beaded board ceiling overhead soon. But this made it look good, brighten the interior as well as cut down on any mold that may form with condensation. This year's clinic and regatta also determined the 2018 U.S. Para Sailing Championships. Disabled sailors from around North America in three classes learned and raced in Newport.

It is important you don't use much grease because it can easylly splash over the sails when furling in and out. In this video I use Quicksilver 2-4-C which is a "PTFE" teflon based grease for use in areas with high moisture. But the right grease for the job is Seldén lubrication grease - solid water resistant grease part nr. 312-501 - a white tube with black lid - price around 18 USD The point with the right grease is to lubricate but not mess up the sails and whole boat with black oil marks

We aren't a super strict, amazingly disciplined plant-based family. Shane and I don't eat meat, dairy, eggs, or (recently) fish. We give our kids a lot of wiggle room when it comes to eating "healthy." Find out the details in the video. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. This episode we shake off the lines and continue our journey east towards beautiful La Parguera. Unfortunately for us 5 miles from our departure the wind picked up and our prop shaft decided to fall away from the engine! We managed to limp our way into the bay of Boquerón, and with a little help from our friends we made it to anchor. After a few hours of work we managed to get the shaft reassembled (correctly this time!). The next morning we continued our journey with a short test run and a day later we made it to La Parguera without incident. Well, actually its not an island, we are officially at a reef, but the sandbank is always there, so I proclaim it an island. This is such a cool place. A place of life and death. We were not there in time to witness life. But death equally held awe and beauty. Duff reef is a turtle breeding island. It is rarely visited and therefore essentially protected by its own location. We were moved to have the privilege to visit this little spot on our planet. A place like this has to have a catch right? And it did. The anchorage was not a very hospitable. We didn’t doddle for days. One night was unfortunately enough. Enough in the sense we should have installed seatbelts to keep us in bed. Monster side swell kept us airborne most of the time. Quickly we were off to the next island group. Welcome Fulanga! At the very south east of Fiji it is upwind from everywhere. We were so thrilled to have the weather and the time to visit there with Ashley's Mom. Fulanga is special place. A welcoming place. A place of shy and wide smiles. Of beautiful people who set themselves apart by adopting the cruisers that dare to venture there. Tui and his sister, Koro, adopted us and allowed us a few special moments with their family. You will have to stay tuned for the next episode as we really immerse ourselves in the village. We are slowly making our way deeper and deeper into the South Pacific. It’s a far cry from New Zealand and although we love them both, we sometimes feel we are on borrowed time. Perhaps it is we are between periods of our lives. Perhaps it is we are just passing through this part of the world. Our constant is our home, Nahoa. Three years out cruising and we are lost. We know exactly where we are, but we are unsure of our future and even our next destination as plans are changing constantly. And so life goes. Even in paradise there are ups. Amazing inspirational days and downs. When you have doubt. When you don't know your next purpose. I suppose we are human after all. But suffice it to say we aren’t ready for this crazy journey to end anytime soon. So not to worry, we will continue to see what this entire world has to offer…. wherever that may lead us on this beautiful journey aboard NAHOA.
