This week we leave Ios on a beautiful winters morning. After all the storms, rain, sleet, hail, winds and clouds we have experienced in the Dodecanese and Cyclades in the last couple of months we lap up the sun, sunrises and sunsets! We cruise through the middle of the Cyclades where we can see Naxos, Paros, Anti Paros, Sikinos, Sifnos and Milos all at the same time. We decide to anchor for the night in Pyrogonisi Bay near Alyki on the Island of Kimolos. It is calm, quiet, picturesque, green and we are fortunate enough to take in the crystal clear waters, stunning sunrise and the biggest super moon of the year! The next day we head to Milos passing Klima the colourful fishing village. We experience the calmest day since we bought our boat and several turtles popping up to say hello. As usual with sailing in the Cyclades in winter, there is no one at the anchorage in Adamas except for many dugongs which was really cool to see. Jase is still on the hunt for a fish as we sail the mediterranean and although we don't land it, he experiences his first close encounter on the way to Kithnos haha. Kithnos is stunning and we would have loved to stay longer however we are in a rush to beat 60 knot gusts in the coming days. Seems like over winter there was always a big blow or storm coming through the Cyclades every few days. We hope you enjoy! In this episode of Sailing Chelsea, Lucas is still on board and we see a turtle whilst sailing, just off the coast of Tenerife near to Los Christianos. We decide to jump in to say hello and capture some stunning footage - turtles are such incredible creatures! After a nice send off from the turtle, we say goodbye to Lucas and begin prepping Chelsea to leave the Canaries. Also, Ryan has a go at flying his drone again over Chelsea at sunset - really cool to see Chels from above and not be strapped to the mast! In this episode I finally bring the Open 60 to a state of preparedness and readiness that places her in a state she has not been in for a number of years - Papa signal flag up and ready: ‘Sailing Outward Bound’. Before we set off however there is one thing I have to do- rename her. She has always been known as Hellcat since I bought her but it’s not a name that’s working for me and I have to make a change! Lastly, I also discuss my thoughts on sea-going superstitions and give a quick demo of how to get a 60’ boat off the dock by yourself. If you would like to purchase Ranulph Fiennes' excellent book on Capt Scott- Follow the link below: https://amzn.to/2CbpZyq My name is Chris Stanmore-Major better known as CSM. We spend most of our time in the Bahamas in Hopetown. While there I teach junior sailing in Optimists, 420's and Sunfish. These sailors are the advanced group and are practising sailing without rudders. This was the first time the did it. It is very good practise as they quickly learn that a combination of heeling the boat and careful sail trim allows them to be almost as manoeuvrable as steering with a rudder.

Another useful coaching exercise we've been practising in Hopetown, Bahamas is "tacking on the whistle" the better the sailors get, the more frequent the whistle until it's almost continuous. But that makes it hard to video and watch the sailors, for it's difficult for coaches to concentrate on more than two boats at a time.

This a video is of the new homemade Yeti type cooler / icebox I'm making for my sailboat. It's formed out of rigid foam, 2 3/8" thick and sealed/covered by West Systems Epoxy on the interior and exterior. Cooler Icebox has just over 1.5 c.f. of storage space. This is the third time uploading this video?! There was a background sound issue at the start I still need to figure out but at least it's gone now. Dang this video editing is fun stuff ;-) I like sailing and building / fabricating stuff a lot more! Thanks for watching! Fair Winds and Seas, John

We are delighted to offer this lovely example of an Atlantic 444. 'Le Bec Fin' presents in superb order, her 'Tardis' like interior belies her 14 metre length. The accommodation in this boat can only be described as substantial. The owners cabin aft with en suite heads is simply luxurious. Fitted with twin Volvo 63P's she is no slouch either. The quality of finish from this renowned Dutch yard is superb. She comes with a high specification with bow & stern thrusters, generator, heating and even a washing machine! If you are in the market for a particularly spacious cruiser she is a must see. Broom 450 quality and space for much less money! Please call to make an appointment to view. Listing - http://www.networkyachtbrokers.com/boats_for_sale/Atlantic_444-16272.html/ She is located in Brighton Marina. We’ve become pretty comfortable with our life on the river. Each morning, once we’re underway, Kirk takes the helm and I make breakfast in the galley. Then we switch back and forth with steering, giving each other a chance to get something done. One afternoon, Kirk installs buttons on the handrail covers I sewed back in Wisconsin. We travel most of the day, often until sunset, drop the hook, then do it all over again the next day. The further south we go, the more we feel like we’re in the middle of nowhere. The towns grow thin, the marinas are few and far between, and we anchor out more and more. Because we have such cold mornings, our Westerbeke diesel engine needs some extra coaxing to get started. Thankfully, we’ve figured out a trick to warm him up. Even though it feels remote, we’re now closer to the Gulf than ever. This is our last full river episode, so if you’re getting antsy for open water, hang on, we’re almost there! More music by Common Jack 🎶 Hope you enjoy, Lauren & Kirk P.S. For today's Casual Friday video we're asking YOU for some advice. Where would you put the wind generator on our boat? On a separate mast between the solar arch and the boom, on the backstay, on the main mast in a removable install, or do you have another suggest that we didn't think about? Part of why we love creating on YouTube is that we always have our audience to ask for ideas if we need them. I have no doubt the solution we go with will be one suggested in the comments below, so thank you in advance! Seconda notte all'ancora a Porto Sant'Elpidio. Solo-Sailing vom Feinsten! We want to move to a Marina in Florida The plan for quite some time has been to sail the boat to a marina in Florida (and have our residency there). We were thinking West Coast of Florida for a lot of reasons. It was warmer weather. We also like the clarity of the water along this part of the Florida coast. The water is warmer here than it is by us due to being further south. The last benefit for us is it is a bit easier to sail from where the boat is now to the West coast of Florida vs. the East coast. Marina or not to Marina So in the words of Prince Hamlet by Shakespeare, To Marina or not to Marina, that is the question. Okay, that may not have been Bill Shakespeare exact word, but you read that in your head with grandeur didn’t you? We are considering the cost of liveaboard Marinas. We are likely going to pay between 900 and 1100 a month for a slip for our boat with the Liveaboard fee. We started considering houses that are waterfront, where we can stay on the ship. Doing so would allow us to have that “slip rent” money go toward some equity. It would also allow us a way to drop some of the costs we have. All of a sudden we think we can cover 2/3’s of a waterfront places mortgage just in applying funds in a different location. Search Continues We are in Florida this week starting to look at those property options. We will keep you posted on what we find. They are easy to find if you want to spend a million dollars. Which for the record we are looking for stuff MUCH less than that We have seen a few interesting ones, like living on an island that requires a ferry to get to. Pretty cool stuff, but all options are open right now. Links shared in this weeks video. Our adventures in The Bahamas have officially kicked off! We spend a few days exploring Bimini - checking out all the restaurants and bars including Stuart's Conch Stand, Ebbie's Bonefish, Edith's Pizza, Sherry's Beach Bar and of course, Nate's Bread. *Spoiler alert: I dropped my phone into the ocean and lost footage of most of our time here. 😭 Then it's time to head East on our longest sail to date, to start our much awaited trip through the Berry Islands. We tackle our first overnight sail to our first stop, Great Harbour Cay where we hang out for a few days taking in the sights and beautiful beaches as we wait for a good friend of ours to arrive. ::FOLLOW US:: Instagram: @sailingsummerfriday Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsummerfriday/ Website: https://sailingsummerfriday.com ::SAILING SUMMER FRIDAY SWAG:: https://sailingsummerfriday.com/shop-sailing-summer-friday/ Are you down to summer friday? While waiting for our Garcia 45, Chloe to be built, we spent time driving The Wild Atlantic Way on the western coast of Ireland in the winter. Hopping between welcoming pubs and national parks makes for a memorable trip.

http://www.TheSailingFamily.com - After having seen some sharks at Highbourne Cay we left the Exuma Cays and crossed the Exuma Bank to Nassau. Compared to other yachts of the same length, LEX stands out for its modern design, its technology, the attention to detail and elegance of its interior design and the extensive flybridge outside, characteristic of boats of much greater size. LEX has a fantastic professional crew of four: a captain, a chef and two sailor-assistants. All have been trained to satisfy even the most demanding customer’s needs with a smile. This is why LEX is the best choice for enjoying an absolutely unique and unforgettable holiday.
