Now we enter the final week of intensive Frame Production, with the team of volunteers going at full swing to finish reframing the entire stern of TALLY HO before our deadline. Spirits are high, and we celebrate by throwing a party in the workshop, and then organizing a very small dinghy regatta in the nearest bay. The fully-framed stern of the boat looks amazing, and it’s time for a short break - so after all the volunteers have left I pack up my own things and head back to the UK for a couple of weeks. I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.
Don't tell everyone... but yes, the west coast of Canada is a pretty special place! We don't often get snow in winter –– and though sunny days are rare, we do get a few of those. Aladino and I took advantage of the latest sunny days to go for a canoe trip! Although we're not on a sailboat here, canoes were actually what got me started in the world of boats. My parents used to take me out canoeing to the hundreds of little islands just off the coast of BC. You could explore this coast for a lifetime and still find something new every year. It's a pretty special place. These videos are made possible by you. It's been a busy busy few weeks! Let's get you caught up a bit. There's a lot so let's stick to the highlights. :) We started in Key West and did a quick trip to and from the Dry Tortugas which were way cooler than we thought they'd be. People talk them up. Now we know why, After getting back we prepped and started heading from Key West to New Orleans. About a 900 Nmile journey in total. We took it at a leisurely pace and took 3 weeks to do the trip. Once in New Orleans we explore our unique marina and play tourist before taking some time to get some boat work done. We’re here knowing nothing and learning sailing bit by bit. This week we’re doing some boat jobs again. Trying to attach solar mounts and cut mattresses. Wow, what a time to be alive. Next to that we take Blue and her anchor gear out to a nice bay to practice anchoring for the first time. We choose what seems like a calm and sunny day and ended up holding in 25 knots of wind. On our way back we get a visit from some aquatic friends (yes I mean dolphins!). Thank you for watching! Leaving Greece and starting the long journey towards the winter sailing in the Caribbean. Joining the Greek coastguard and port authority in their anti pollution rehearsal together with Gregory from the port office of Messolonghi. Also had a great time with Dimitri and the rest of the people I got to know there while waiting for solar panels and my friend to arrive. Also got the chance to see the Messolonghi trade fair wich was a interesting experience. After 7 weeks in Messolonghi BE FREE is finally done with upgrades. Solar panels, rewiring and batteries are all done. Just waiting for my Norwegian friend Tord that is joining me sailing towards Sardinia. But unfortunately we had to wait leaving Greece because of the hurricane that was building up in the Ionian Sea between Greece and Italy. Meanwhile we do some sightseeing in Messolonghi before we set sail towards Italy. In this episode; With KC and Lisa, after waiting out a day of bad weather in Sapodilla Lagoon we navigate Saltair3 through the turquoise blue but shallow and complicated waters out to paradise. About 30 miles from Placencia, out near the barrier reef is a gorgeous but small Caye known as South Water Caye. White sand beach, crystal clear waters that let you see straight to the coral sea floor and an area full of amazing sea life. Bloopers at the end of the video! Sorry to our fans. YouTube has given us the following; “Comments on your channel are disabled due to the risk of inappropriate comments and cannot be re-enabled at this time.” Update;03/20/2019 - Now it seems all of our old comments are un-viewable! Disabled by YouTube without even sending us an email or a notice. We had no idea until Dave B let us know via Facebook. As more information from YouTube comes along we will do our best to share and update you our fans. If you still would like to comment or communicate with us, visit our website wwwtriotravels.ca our our Facebook page “Trio Travels” This is a frustrating “Big Brother” situation but there seems to be little we can change. We welcome KC and Lisa aboard Saltair3 to share the experience of learning to sail a Big Cat and what it's really like living a life on the Sea. A week long adventure of learning to sail, getting a taste of what it’s like living on a catamaran in the Caribbean, how we make our power and our water, and how we provision and cook in a catamaran's galley, some diesel maintenance, tips tricks and more… all while exploring the amazing Belizean Barrier Reef! We had a great time, made some great friends and shared our lives a step past our videos... They came as strangers to us and left as great friends, although they had a pretty good idea of who we are before the came Lol! This video shares some of the highlights of their trip… You too can spend an all inclusive week with us aboard our catamaran Saltair3 learning how to live a life on the sea, how to prepare, repair, provision, catch fish and lobster, how to navigate to and safely check into foreign countries, all the while learning to sail a Big Cat, or just sit back, relax and enjoy being aboard Saltair3 in the warm and beautiful Caribbean Sea... It's time to get moving on boat repairs after our big transatlantic passage. But like anything in life, its all about balance. In this episode we tackle sail repairs and a solar panel installation but also make our way deep into Grenada's lush, tropical jungle for a hike to one of the island's most stunning waterfalls. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Thanks to our Patrons! With over 7,000 RS Fevas worldwide, the RS Feva Class in North America is catching on to the fact that the RS Feva is the ideal transition boatl for building a pipeline of future growth, rather than losing the sailors during that very crucial 10-15 year old age range, the RS Feva can keep them excited without keeping them in a small boat too long or putting them in a big boat too early. The following pathway is an example of successful pathways some areas have implemented Opti/Sabot/O'Pen Bic/RS Tera to the RS Feva to the Laser/420/29er

Test der Bavaria Cruiser 32 in Holland
We travel 13nm from Warderick Wells to Cambridge Cay. From our mooring ball off this quaint island, snorkeling the ‘sea aquarium’ and exploring the caves of Rocky Dundas are just a dinghy ride away. A few days later we head another 13nm South to Big Majors and Staniel Cay. We had planned on checking out Thunderball Grotto, but the current wasn’t cooperating so we chilled out at the bar at Staniel Cay Yacht Club, not only a popular hang out for people but apparently nurse sharks too! We were anchored near pig beach so we could see when boat loads of tours would stop by to see the insta-famous swimming pigs. At times there were literally hundreds of people there so we decided to go early one morning before anyone else arrived. It was cool to see them swim and it was definitely an experience, but in all honesty - it was a bit gross and not something we need to do again. ::FOLLOW US:: Instagram: @sailingsummerfriday Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsummerfriday/ Website: https://sailingsummerfriday.com ::SAILING SUMMER FRIDAY SWAG:: https://sailingsummerfriday.com/shop-sailing-summer-friday/ Are you down to summer friday? In this episode we sail across from La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, to Funchal, Madeira, which takes us 2 and a half days in the end. We explore Funchal quite briefly as it is very expensive in the marina and so we decide to sail around to a gorgeous little anchorage. Here we meet up with some friends which turns into a stressful situation... Ryan goes to rescue a windsurfer, then needs rescuing himself, then (once rescued) goes back out to sea and rescues the rescuers, who had themselves got into trouble - scary times! Then we set sail from Madeira to Santo Porto aka paradise! It's a tough sail for us with big winds and waves and some serious listing (leaning for all you non-sailors!) But we really enjoyed the challenge and are feeling more and more confident with our sailing.
