The weather was still chilly at Great Keppel Island so we only stayed a day before setting off further north in pursuit of sunshine and warmer weather. Due to the military exclusion zone in place right where we planned on spending quite a bit of time, Shoalwater Bay, Island Head Creek, Pearl Bay and Port Clinton, we had to sail for around 14 to 16 hours without a stop. We decided it was best to do this at night and it was a great opportunity for us to complete our first overnight sail. The winds were perfect and we were going between high 7's and 8 knots consistently with top speeds in low 9 knots. We were in fact making such good ground that at around 9pm we decided to slow the boat down, as we were going to arrive at Marble Island too early! The night was pitch black without even the moon to shine on us but there were plenty of stars around to light the way. Hurricane season is approaching and it is time we really start working South so we set sail for Great Inagua, the very last Bahamas Island. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. After choosing some beautiful blues and whites to compliment the colours of the ocean, Dannii spent a couple of months hand knitting her blanket. She is very proud to have finished her creation and thought to share the final product and a tutorial on how to make something similar. The forecast heavy airs for Tuesday turned up with a bang, maxing out at 37 knots by late morning. Confidence and some patience from the race committee, who postponed the start for several hours until the first hints of any abatement showed up, eventually saw the fleets away by lunchtime for some exciting racing in slowly easing conditions. The Bow Caddy team enjoyed a wild ride too, chasing the IRC fleet across Whitsunday Passage in 2 metre seas.

Easing their way into Race Week, the fleet enjoyed an island course for a second day of light airs under sunny skies. While Pentecost Island was something of a parking lot for many of the cruising divisions, by late lunchtime the breeze had built enough to get everyone home for a finish in Dent Passage in some tricky current.
