In this episode Champ and I hit up the King's Canyon for an epic trail run, then we take a much deserved nap and finally fix the black tank or the RV. In the end we turn up at Moon Rocks for some BLM camping. Music by HHSweater (https://soundcloud.com/hhsweater) Really appreciate the support, check out the Patreon for more access and perks: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel to world. I make travel vlogs about my Vanlife, sharing vanlife ideas, vanlife tips, and travel diaries. Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I live in a van, which certainly cuts costs down but still I need to make some money in order to afford to continue, currently I make 90% of my income through working as a photographer/videographer. I regularly work for Airbnb as a real estate photographer and I also take on bigger commercial contracts whenever I get the chance. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, Nikon D810, Sony RX100 iii, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, Underwater Housing, tripods and lights. - What is your van? 1992 Dodge B350 Travelhome with the 5.9L TBI gas engine. I spent $3500 buying it and so far another $9000 in repairs upgrades and maintenance. - What're your plans? Travel forever. The Arctic this summer, Asia next winter, Sailboat the world after. I want to see this whole world, and I'm playing it all by ear. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live in a van with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. If I have to leave him inside the van I cover the front seats so he can't climb up and stare out the window and bark. I cover all the windows with reflectix panels I made for insulation, I turn my fantastic sucking air out on max (replaces all the air in the van every 90 seconds). I crack one window in a shaddy lower part of the van to create a consistent airflow. Other than that the fiberglass roof and insulation do a fantastic job of keeping the heat out. In colder climates I set the furnace on at minimum and close down all the windows same as for heat minus venting. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go seperate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharring my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time.
Oil Change! Carrera (Porsche 911 3.2 Liter) That time of year again and Shamoo (our 1986 Porsche 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet) get an oil change. I run you through all the steps and, as usual, I have a few DIY tips/tricks/hacks to make the job a little easier and help you get better results. Oil changes are an easy way to bond with your car and give you an opportunity to poke around and look for things that may need attention. What you’ll need: • Oil Filter: MAHLE OC54 (https://goo.gl/26HMfh) • Aluminum crush washer (https://goo.gl/MxXus1) • 10-12 Qts/L oil • At least a 4 gal oil collection pan/bucket. Two are best. • 15mm socket • Torque Wrench • Optional: Silicone grease, oil filler cap gasket, quick drain, magnetic drain plug (if you don’t have one already) So, I got a question about the drain plug... Do a search on Amazon: Fumoto FG7BN Engine Oil Drain Valve (22mm-1.5) https://goo.gl/zWGxzH Just be careful about clearance... They do make valves without the extension. I even saw a right angle version: Fumoto F309L Engine Oil Drain Valve (22mm-1.5) https://goo.gl/TFLQAE Drain Plug torque specs: 70nM (51.63 ft lbs) & 42nM (30.98 ft lbs) per Porsche Technical Specifications 84-87 (1st edition 12/86) page 63 If you don’t have access to a lift be super careful if you jack up the car. Use good and strong jack stands. Be safe! Please dispose of your oil responsibly. Auto parts stores and most oil change places will take it for free. In the episode of our Mumm 36 rebuild we go to work on the boats spreaders. We explain how we cut out the tired ends replacing them with new custom machined ones. The aluminium is then clean up and repainted to slow down future wear and damage. As with many task in the rebuild be needed to take the custom approach as it was not possible to buy new items which would fit. The mast and spreader mounts were original from when the boat was built in the mid 90's so there is little to no chance for finding something new. If you enjoyed the latest boat restoration episode make sure to like and subscribe so you are notified of future videos, we have many more boat DIY lessons to share as we rebuild our Mumm 36. #boatrestoration

Here we show you the simple setup we use for bathing and getting on and off our boat - both when we're swimming at anchor and we are 'Med Moored'. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE ➜ http://bit.ly/SBYouTube⛵ Some boats have very complicated systems to do this job - even going as far as having hydraulically-actuated platforms... (😲 The maintenance!...) We use a length of bungee chord (a.k.a. shock cord) with two carabiners whipped onto the ends to raise the gangplank and stop it rubbing on the dock. We find it simple but effective, so we thought we'd share it with you in this 'Sailing Tips' video. Do you know someone who has trouble to board their boat? An older person, someone with mobility issues, someone sailing with a baby or kids or even someone who sails with a dog? Share this video with them and they might love you forever! ⛵ Sailing Britaly ⛵ brings you the sailing shenanigans of Chris (British) and Rossella (Italian), as we sail our 30ft sloop. Considering a CDI Flexible Furling System. See what's inside the box before you buy. Which head sail furling system should you choose for your sailboat? That's a difficult question to answer. Every boat is different and is sailed in different areas. Every sailor is different, has a broad range of needs, budgets and expectations. CDI - Cruising Design International has been in the sailing industry for over two decades. They create a solid product backed by a very good warranty. Simplicity. Often, the simplest product is the best product. The Flexible Furler has one-eighth the number of parts of competitive systems and is the easiest to install, operate and maintain. Plus, the Flexible Furler is backed by an unequaled warranty. A patented, one-piece, UV stabilized PVC luff extrusion. This luff extrusion is as stiff in torsion as a metal system, and yet can bend without kinking, unlike metal systems. There are no joints to fail and it is designed to be winched. A built-in halyard. This eliminates troublesome halyard swivels and halyard wrap, maximizing reliability whether offshore or close to home. Reliable Furling. CDI's durable one-piece urethane furling drum and stainless steel drum cover keeps the furling line in place. You can accidentally drop your anchor onto the Flexible Furler drum and expect it to keep working! Fail Safe Bearings. Because of the built-in halyard, CDI's rugged bearings see only a fraction of the load carried by other systems. Smaller Flexible Furlers typically use a one-piece solid plastic bearing, though some sailors prefer ball bearings as a convenience option (like having power steering in a small car). The FF7.0 and 9.0 come with ball bearings standard.CDI uses ½" Torlon balls which roll over dirt easier and need less maintenance than the ¼" balls you find in less rugged systems. Easy Installation. Designed to be installed over your existing stay, cutting in half the installation time. Low Maintenance. It's recommended that you rinse your bearing with a hose every 5 years (a 5 minute procedure). That's it! And you don't have to drop your sail to rinse the bearing.

Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! **** With our friend Kyle still aboard, we set sail down to an area of Fiji known as the Astrolab Reef. It wasn't a long sail, but Kyle proved to be just the good luck charm we needed to end our fishing drought as he reeled in a delicious mahi-mahi. The Astrolab Reef area is one of the more remote parts of Fiji and we had to do our first kava ceremony in order to receive permission from the local chief to anchor off the island of Dravuni. After a few cups of kava, we were all feeling quite relaxed and ready to enjoy all the hiking and swimming we could pack in to the rest of Kyle's trip!

We rented some scuba gear and went out to find our lost anchor. We also painted the bulkheads in preparation for installing new headliner in our sailboat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. This is it! Tonight's the finale of Nick Viall's season of The Bachelor on ABC. Can you even deal!? What do you think's going to happen!? I thought it would be fun if we played a little game: Can we predict who will win The Bachelor—Raven Gates or Vanessa Grimaldi—based on their zodiac sign's compatibility with Nick? What I discovered may surprise you! Also, here's a quick cake recipe for all of your Bachelor fans out there. Make this final rose engagement ring cake out of mini vanilla cupcakes—it's so easy to arrange them into the perfect (Neil Lane!?) rock. I think this would be really cute for your Bachelor Nation view party tonight. You could even make it with store-bought cupcakes. Who are you cheering for!? Annual haulouts can cost a fortune and you lose valuable boating time. The strategy we use allows the boat to stay in the water for years on end! DIY Copper Paint Making Instructions ➜ https://cutt.ly/diycopperpaint 🔔 SUBSCRIBE ➜ http://bit.ly/SBYouTube⛵ I applied a hard copper-based epoxy to the boat several years ago. Although it doesn't stop marine growth (we keep our boat in an extremely high marine-growth area) it does prevent it from attaching properly so you can scrape months of growth off with a few hours hard work and a mask and snorkel. This kind of bottom paint is so hard that it will resist years of these scraping treatments, without having to be repainted. This means your annual antifouling and haulout fees are exactly $0 (This is our favourite price!) Some viewers have suggested wearing ear plugs while you do this so that marine life doesn't move into your ear. I've never worn earplugs, and have never had a problem... it's up to you. ⛵ Sailing Britaly ⛵ brings you the sailing shenanigans of Chris (British) and Rossella (Italian), as we sail our 30ft sloop. We make sailing vlogs of our cruising adventures and share any tips and tricks we can along the way. After all, sailors are one big family! ***** Our friend Kyle flew out from the US to come visit, and he came with quite an itinerary. The first part of his trip saw us exploring the largest island of Fiji: Viti Levu. We visited museums, learned the proper “Fijian Style” technique for diving off a rope swig and ran all over the Sigatoka Sand Dunes. But our wildest adventure was the drive out to and the hike up Mount Tomanivi, the highest peak in all of Fiji. The drive itself took several hours on highly suspect roads, but if it’s possible the hike itself was even crazier. It took us over two hours to climb the 600 meters up to the summit and we battled through steep inclines, streams, rain and the resulting mud. These are the kind of adventures we love and the view from the top made everything more than worth it. Hi Everyone! In this repair DIY we tear into our 1958 Porsche 356 A’s front left brake in hopes of finding out just why the car won’t stop straight. Join me as I pull the drum, inspect and go through a rebuild in hopes of finally solving the mystery as to why the car is pulling to the right while stopping. I was lucky to have all the needed parts on hand, but I stocked up from Sierra Madre Porsche parts a while back knowing I was in store for some brake work. We hope you enjoyed the video. Nice images from the sky as we leave Porto towards the south. The first scheduled maintenance of the engines is planned for next Monday in Cascais, so we'll probably skip Lisboa and head directly there.

Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** On the morning of October 9th, 2016 as we sailed within Fiji, we crossed over 178° 50.275E. That officially marked our arrival halfway around the world from La Rochelle, France! We were pretty proud of that accomplishment and still can't believe how lucky we are to be out on this crazy adventure. Of course, to get to that moment, we had to clear in to Fiji first. That was slightly complicated but the dive we did in celebration of Amy's birthday definitely made up for it! We did get a bit nostalgic in this video, taking a look back at some of our favorite memories from the past two years. And here's a challenge for you guys: how many moments do you recognize? :) To follow along with our cruising adventures, please subscribe to our YouTube channel and check out our blog and Facebook page: http://www.outchasingstars.com https://www.facebook.com/outchasingstars Thanks for watching! Gator scared the crap out of me while weed eating, went right over the top of it when it jumped out. Really working to keep the brush down around the pool, saw a snake as well earlier. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE - it's FREE!!! ➜ https://www.sailingbritaly.com/subscribe O-rings are insignificant little things - but not if you need one to fix your boat! O-ring splicing kits are cheap and if you have one on board you can make a perfectly sized o-ring in minutes. This video shows me making two o-rings to fix a leaking faucet on our small sailing boat. This O-Ring splicing kit is made of Black Buna-N, has a durometer of 70A, and includes 9 pieces of o-ring cord in metric cross sections, 1 meter of cord per piece. The cord has a Round cross-section and can be used across a wide temperature range from -67 degrees F (-55 degrees C) to 257 degrees F (125 degrees C). The splicing kit comes in a plastic box with lid card, instructions, cord stock, splicing jig, cutting tool, and adhesive. The kit includes the following cord sizes: 1 Meter of 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 5mm, 5.7mm, 8.4mm O-Ring Cord Stock. Buna-nitrile can have high tensile strength, as well as abrasion, tear, and compression set resistance. It is compatible for use with petroleum, hexafluoroacetone (HFA), hexafluoro-2-butyne (HFB) and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) fluids, vegetable oil, alcohol, acids, and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Buna-nitrile is vulnerable to acetone, ethers, esters, ozone, sunlight and weathering, and should not be used in ozone-generating electric motors, welding equipment, or in applications with exposure to UV light. ⛵ Sailing Britaly ⛵ brings you the sailing shenanigans of Chris (British) and Rossella (Italian), as we sail our 30ft sloop. After waiting for a month for the Haringvliet bridge to open again after extensive maintenance, we could finally sail our boat to its new marina. But in the meantime winter had arrived and the temperature had dropped to below zero. Without the obstacle of the closed bridge out of the way neither snow or sleet could refrain us from our next adventure: Sailing in winter. I did not cover that they offer a lot of free music to use in your video, while it is not top 40 music, who would want the distraction anyway.
