This is the first video of a series that will show the use of used 18650 cells from laptop and ebike batteries. They will be the backbone of a DIY Powerwall. This is actually a battery bank, made of single cells put in parallel and series to get the amperage and voltalge high enough to be efficient. Tesla Motors actually triggered this movement by their Tesla Powerwall. See how my system will come alive through the series. For more info on DIY Powerwalls, go to the Forum http://www.diypowerwalls.com or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/diypowerwalls/ To go to my YouTube Channel - Sailing and Electronics https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLKYCkXn8HDEUfIGO2lmCnQ

Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** It's always the last day of a passage when things go wrong! We set sail from New Zealand to head back up to Tonga for another South Pacific cruising season. The passage was a bit of a tricky one with strong winds, then light winds and then shifting strong winds. We managed to take it all in stride until the last night. While reefing, a screw that backed itself out of mast track got caught on a track car. And unfortunately, the electric winch will win that battle every time! After a quick fix at sea, we arrived into Neiafu, Tonga, tired but glad to be back. Be sure and subscribe to catch lots more videos coming up! And if you want to follow along with our up to date cruising adventures, check out our blog and Facebook page: http://www.outchasingstars.com https://www.facebook.com/outchasingstars Thanks for watching! Click here... http://www.patreon.com/Nandji In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we had to return to Noumea for yet more repairs to Nandji, hopefully they will be the last ones for quite some time!! We head into the marina and have to remove the forestay and furler. We had to replace the forestay in a foreign country which was good fun. We really need to learn a bit more french to succeed over here haha It is all part of the adventure!! Whilst at the marina, we were lucky enough to cross paths with the greatest of all time solo sailor, Jon Sanders. This man is an absolute legend. He is currently on the last legs of completing his 10th circumnavigation at the young age of 78. He sailed solo and unassisted non stop around the world twice. Then he thought, I can beat that and went and sailed around the world non stop three times!!! what a man!! When we asked him how he did it, he shrugged it off! This man has sailed around cape horn 5 times! The only thing he had to complain about was that the floor boards get thrown around went knocked down and you loose your winch handles. What a legend!! Stuck in the busiest shipping lane in the world with a broken engine and no wind. At night. The bad news? The northerly wind which had been forecast never came, so we motor-sailed for most of the day. The good news? The huge southerly winds of the previous week had stopped, and the fierce waves had flattened off. It all went well for the first nine hours... *************************************** If you enjoy or have even learned something from our videos, please SUBSCRIBE to our channel, and if you really like our work maybe throw us a bone... Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon Donations: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon Merchandise: http://simonstiles.com/finding-simon/ :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I live in a van, which certainly cuts costs down but still I need to make some money in order to afford to continue, currently I make 90% of my income through working as a photographer/videographer. I regularly work for Airbnb as a real estate photographer and I also take on bigger commercial contracts whenever I get the chance. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, Nikon D810, Sony RX100 iii, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, Underwater Housing, tripods and lights. - What is your van? 1992 Dodge B350 Travelhome with the 5.9L TBI gas engine. I spent $3500 buying it and so far another $9000 in repairs upgrades and maintenance. - What're your plans? Travel forever. The Arctic this summer, Asia next winter, Sailboat the world after. I want to see this whole world, and I'm playing it all by ear. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live in a van with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. If I have to leave him inside the van I cover the front seats so he can't climb up and stare out the window and bark. I cover all the windows with reflectix panels I made for insulation, I turn my fantastic sucking air out on max (replaces all the air in the van every 90 seconds). I crack one window in a shaddy lower part of the van to create a consistent airflow. Other than that the fiberglass roof and insulation do a fantastic job of keeping the heat out. In colder climates I set the furnace on at minimum and close down all the windows same as for heat minus venting. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go seperate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharring my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time.

***** Our time in New Zealand was rapidly drawing to a close. But before we could sail north for another cruising season in the South Pacific, there were a couple of things left on our New Zealand to-do list. Little Dipper (our tender) needed some TLC, there were more hikes to do and we were finally able to cross off the top item on Amy's wish list: the Waitangi Treaty Grounds Hāngi and Concert. I know we keep saying we did a lot awesome things in New Zealand, but the Hāngi and Concert was right up there near the top of the list. It was a great cultural evening and we both really enjoyed learning more about Māori culture. Being elected Chief for the evening didn't hurt either! We've moved several steps on to getting afloat - we've sold the car - (which was way more emotional than we imagined) advertised the house and at long last bought a boat! It's an Amel Super Maramu (exactly like the SV Delos crew as everyone keeps telling us) but in all the chaos, as much as we try and keep the kids busy and entertained during the summer holidays, the kids have gone a bit wild. TRANSCRIPT The boat sale has gone through. We have bought an Amel 53-foot yachts. I think we celebrated I can't remember. I think we opened a bottle champagne didn't we? It's really exciting we're finally going but it's really stressful because I’m trying to so many things before we go. My little one's at home today because he’s not going anywhere. I can't arrange for him to go somewhere every day but he quite likes being at home, he plays really well. The school holidays don't feel like school holidays at all because I've got a massive list of things to move out of his house. We have to do a lot of maintenance before we go so the children - I've organised for them to do lots of things. So I just don't feel like I'm really spending much time with the kids at all. My brother came to visit. My mum came because she likes to be here when there's chaos. I've had my friend from Hong Kong here with her three girls. She only comes once a year so I have to squeeze that in. Any other friends that are local pretty much had to deal with me painting while I’m trying to chat to them. The kids have gone a little bit feral. I haven't really been going out with them every day, they just kind of have to work it out really. I've tried to arrange activities for them when I can. So Woody is really busy in the workshop knocking everything together because we're having a huge sale on Sunday to sell any of the surplus stock and bits of furniture from his business Rat and Pallet. Our Mazda Bongo Friendy has been sold to another family that are going to make the most of it. Hopefully they'll go on a lot of camping trips. It does have a lot of sentimental value. We've been on lots of adventures with it. Since the kids were really young we’ve been on a lot of camping trips - lots of photos from all over England of us in that van sometimes in the rain, sometimes in the sun. I don't think the kids can quite believe that we've actually sold the car and it was getting driven off. So it was kind of sad to see it go. The car was 16 years old - we had it imported from Japan and we made a lot of good use of it. So we've got the house listed - we've got lots of people interested. There is a family coming today which would be our ideal thing. I've been cutting grass, cutting hedges, cleaning paths, doing the decking, trying to tidy up around the kids. This house will be properly packed up, properly maintained and in a couple weeks time I'm gonna start the actual packing. The lifeboat’s being pretty quiet. There was a Shout I didn't go out on. It was a fishing boat that sunk. On the lifeguarding job, yeah it was quite busy day we rescued a dog in the morning - or helped rescue it - and found its owner and then in the afternoon there was a boat that was in difficulty and they needed a bit of moral support. Right, so now I'm going to pick up the kids - they're doing their athletics and I promised I'd go and watch them do their races at the end so I've kind of got to finish my job's early to go and do that but I do feel that I need to go and see them. What is it like living on a boat? What about the day to day tasks and chores like shopping, boat maintenance, filling with water and diesel. With Liz now back on board we prepare SV Esper for our journey south through the Malacca Strait and attempt to fix the VHF, install a new Racor fuel filter, do some shopping and tell you all about doing the laundry on a boat. Sadly, it is not all blue water sailing, this is real liveaboard living, it is the day to day reality of living on a boat. What is living on a boat like? The video showcases our last week in Bermuda. It includes fueling the boat with over 800 liters of diesel, sailing to St George's to book out, a very fast joy ride on an Insetta 45' power boat, the addition of a new crew member (Ryan), some last minute sightseeing, preparations for the five day Atlantic Ocean sail (that turned into 10 days) AND footage from the first of 16 squalls that we hit while crossing from Bermuda to America. Hi Everyone, ever wanted a built-in garage door opener in your Porsche 996 911 (2000-2005)? Tired of the one on the key chain or marring up your visor? In this DIY video, I show you how to use your existing remote and wire it into a switch you can mount in a blank spot in your center console. When you are done you have a totally stock look and all it cost you was the cost of the switch and a bit of wire! It is an awesome mod/hack. The switch is a two-position switch so you can control two doors independently. I show you the places to solder for a Genie and a LiftMaster garage door opener and tell you how to trace the circuit so you can use any opener with a micro switch! The total time is about an hour and you’ll be super psyched with the results! Here is everything you’ll need: • New Switch: Porsche 996 Targa Shade Switch – 996-613-119-10-A05 • Key fob garage door opener remote programmed for your garage door(s) • Some two-conductor wire (like speaker wire) ! 12” 18-24awg • Some single wire ~12” 24awg • (5) female spade crimp-on connectors • Wire cutters/crimpers • Soldering iron • Solder • Multi-Meter/Continuity Checker Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll get right back to you. We hope you enjoyed the video. If you did, please give it a “Thumbs up” and Subscribe to Heidi and Franny’s Garage for more videos to come. Our engine room started to puff out smoke and upon inspection a serious fire was smouldering. With quick thinking from Bonita, we isolated the energy source and controlled a very serious situation from turning even worse. We decide to relax for a day and enjoy the fact we had arrived after 9 days at sea before tackling the issues on Nandji. This time was wise and allowed us to think clearly and work through the damage and resolve all the issues! With that being done, it was time to enjoy this little slice of paradise. Bonus Video- http://patreon.com/svdelos Video Request! How we run a mini-dive shop on a sailboat! A special extra video for our amazing patrons, hope this answers some of your questions about how we run a mini-dive shop on Delos! Please give a big thanks to Kazza for editing this, and putting the time stamps for the answers to the questions below. Quoting Mr Brady - “Scuba diving is relaxation, adventure, peace, history, learning, and exercise - its all of those into one!” Scuba diving is one of our main “hobby's” on Delos. Its something we love! and to be able to dive from Delos is amazing! ***** It's always awesome whenever we have guests come visit. And when those guests happen to be two lovely ladies, it's doubly awesome! Our friends Liz and Breena were on a New Zealand tour and joined us for an incredible week in the Bay of Islands. The first stop was Motuarohia Island, where Captain James Cook "discovered" New Zealand. We did some exploring of our own before moving on to Urupukapuka Island which had lots of sheep and some awesome hiking. The wind cooperated enough that we actually managed to get a sail out and Phoenix was itching for a chance to fly as well. Boat Projects continue as we have an extended Bimini built, DIY exterior sunscreens for all the windows, install new speakers and a stereo system, and find the "leaky" culprit after some rainy days. The kids are learning how to tie boat knots, get in some laundry training and try the new zip line at the park nearby after a donut date with our friends @livingseaworthy. Meatless Monday wasn't the biggest hit with the kids, but it's always fun experimenting with meals on a boat.

Hi Everyone, since the MINI lost a bit of fluid from the left axle half shaft replacement (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkCFaPJI0tw), I thought I would just go ahead and swap out all the transmission fluid. It is super simple and probably something to do every couple of years. It did actually help to make the shifting a bit smoother! Tools you’ll need: • 8mm hex • Ratchet • Torque wrench • 3Qts of appropriate fluid (consult your manual or service center). I used Mobile One Synthetic 75W90 • Fluid Pump that fits your replacement fluid bottles • Drain Pan • Rags/roll towels We hope you enjoyed the video. My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharring my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time.

Lately The Boat Life has been all about boat projects. As we prepare to live aboard our sailboat there is work to be done. We decided to change the name of our boat making today's DIY project applying the boat lettering. Captain Nic was nervous about installing the boat lettering himself but it turns out it is super simple. It is just a large vinyl decal. Watch the process and learn why we changed the boat name to Dodi. This is The Boat Life. Nic Morganti and Melissa Auman are moving onto a sailboat. The plan was sell everything, buy a boat, live on the boat, and travel and explore the Caribbean and the world while living aboard! Simple plan, but lots to learn and do along the way. Join our adventure as we sail away, live on a sailboat, and explore life aboard. Thanks for watching! Get your boat lettering from BoatUS like we did. I make travel vlogs about my Vanlife, sharing vanlife ideas, vanlife tips, and travel diaries. Hi Everyone, Well,… Our 2012 MINI Roadster (R59) (Manual) stranded us with a broken front left half-shaft axle and CV joint. In this video, I go through replacing the entire half shaft and then, at the end we dig into the broken part to see just why it failed. It is a little disappointing that with less than 25K miles and about five years old it had a failure of this type. At first I thought it was the transmission, but I was happy to find out it was just the axle. The OEM part for this is over $800! Can’t imagine what it would cost to get this done at the dealer… I used an aftermarket OEM equivalent part that I had bought and shipped from AutohausAZ for $80! It fit perfectly and has been great. It is an easy job and doesn’t require any fancy tools. Since the repair involves losing a little bit of transmission fluid, I have a video on changing the fluid coming out very soon. The Axle Assembly part number is: 2D-31608605467 We hope you enjoyed the video. If you did, please give it a “Thumbs up” and Subscribe to Heidi and Franny’s Garage for more videos to come.
