The Ta Shing Baba 30, designed by Bob Perry, is a renowned go-anywhere bluewater cruiser. Her classic lines and functional design can get you across an ocean in comfort. This particular boat is in immaculate condition. It's obvious in the video we just couldn't get over how well she's been cared for. The boat needs nothing. She's ready to go and certainly embodies the "go small, go now" mentality. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Current asking price: $64,000 Owner contact info: Jay 717-821-5389 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. Thanks for joining us on our Sojourn to the Carribean! In this video, We made it Sailing to the BAHAMAS, we arrive in Fort Lauderdale where we do final preparations for our gulf stream crossing to the Bahamas. Dan checks out Sailor Man, and we finally get our weather window and actually leave! After a rough but good crossing we land in the Berry Islands Bahamas where we do our customs, then start your tour of the Berry Islands, kicking it off by catching a really big Amberjack! Installing a Steer Stabilizer is not that hard, but still has its issues. We replaced our Steering Stabilizer because just taking the factory one to replace the gears pretty much destroyed it. The hardest part of replacing your Steering Stabilizer is just taking the old one off. Steering Stabilizer we used: https://amzn.to/37WBAPX We bought the Rough Country Steering Stabilizer to better handle the larger tires on our Jeep Wrangler. What better time to replace the Steering Stabilizer than when changing your gears because it is all going to have to move out of the way anyway. We were getting a little wobble "Death Wobble" and we needed to go through everything anyway. While the steering stabilizer won't fix the death wobble, it will help mask it, but if this is your issue you should look at all your steering components. The sailing journey down the Erie Canal continues. But every good thing come with its bad. Our Yanmar Engine mounts are giving us more problems. With the whole engine vibrating we debate crossing Lake Oneida or not. The biggest lake along the Erie Canal it can be challenging in bad weather or with engine troubles especially when your mast is down and you can't use your sails as a backup. We are still pushing to get work done while we deal with figuring out what needs to be done to revamp the boathouse. We got another set of boards milled up for the last oak plank on the port side. As we are getting down to the last of the oak planking stock, we are getting to pieces with a couple more defects. Nothing that is concerning on unmanageable but nevertheless things that need to be dealt with properly. That means we fill in some bung holes in this plank. While working on this, we also get a huge addition to the boat yard. When we visited Ganon and Benjamin, they offered us their old 26 inch thicknesser. They had just received a larger newer one and this unit was pulled out of the way and waiting for a decision on where it should go. We gladly made the trip to go get it and brought them a couple of the knees we just freed as well as some oak boards as a thank you! And we have to say, we VERY much appreciate their generosity! Thank you! Now, we just need to figure out a power unit for this bad boy! That will come soon. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. In this video, BuzzFeed producer Erin Phraner shares 4 easy Valentine's Day ideas that you could use a Valentine's Day dessert or DIY Valentine's Day gift for someone special. These are just simple ways to treat someone you love :) which one would YOUR sweetheart love most?? 1. "I Think Your Bear-y Cute" Cookies: Attach heart-shaped sprinkles to Teddy Grahams using melted white chocolate chips 2. Snack Cake Hearts: Cut 2 of your favorite snack cake in half on the diagonal (luckily they usually come 2 per pack). Match up 2 halves to create a heart-shape. Skewer together using a lollipop stick & decorate with paper to make an arrow. 3. Fruit-Leather Hearts: Fold fruit leather in half & cut-out heart shapes using kitchen scissors—enjoy the scraps for snack! Put the fruit leather hearts on yogurt, pancakes, ice cream or in a lunch box for a special surprise. 4. Ice Cream Hearts: Put a knife in hot water & cut through an ice cream container to make 1/2" to 1" thick rounds; peel away the paper and cut out shapes using a heart cookie cutter. Serve plain or decorate with magic shell ice cream topping & strawberries! On this episode of Sailing on a Whim, the beautiful sunshine of the Bahamas quickly changes to scary storms as we finally make it to Abaco! Of course, there are adventures and misadventures along the way including exploring the abandoned Gin Sur Mer development, losing (and recovering!) our dinghy, and dealing with an INSANE amount of bug bites. Our Bahamas adventure has definitely begun! This crazy adventure started in early 2018 as we started researching learning how to sail, buy a boat, outfit her, and take off for a life on the open seas. There has been a huge learning curve trying to make all of this happen and we want to share with you everything that we have learned and have some fun along the way. We are excited (and a little nervous!) to share this journey with you. We hope that you learn a little from our experiences and maybe inspire you to make changes to live the life you want! Thanks for joining us on our Sojourn to the Carribean! In this video, Rocket Launch Delayed by Boat, we tour Saint Agustine, then leave for West Palm Beach crossing Cape Canaveral on the day of a Space X Falcon 9 Rocket Launch! We were forced to sail 7 nm off shore into big seas to avoid the rocket "safety zone". We arrive in Palm Beach to soak up some sun before pushing on to Fort Lauderdale where we will do our final prep as we plan to cross to the Bahamas! If you like our videos and want to see more/better videos, more often you can become a patreon supporter: https://www.patreon.com/sailingbalachandra If you like these videos, please SUBSCRIBE to see more, and be sure to give this video a like! In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is our YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and my partner Nawal as we navigate the globe. We also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard in a cold climate. Sailing Balachandra is published weekly so please subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos! All of our sailboat repair and maintenance blogs are now hosted on our dedicated maintenance channel, MOTHERSHIP MAINTENANCE Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/c/mothershipmaintenance An edited version of this video is now hosted there. This is a short review and Do-It-Yourself maintenance video on how to service a Honda 2.3HP outboard - one of the lightest and simplest outboards on sale today. It's light (only 13.5kg), air cooled (no impeller to change!) and has only one cylinder (only one spark plug to change)! Although other makes of engine in this class are slightly different, the main components are basically the same. Anyone with a reasonable level of technical ability should be able to service an outboard but please check you’re not invalidating any warranties first. And if you’re in any doubt, even after watching this maintenance video, then contact your local dealer or repair shop. _____________________________ PLEASE NOTE: YouTube have disabled comments on most of our video blogs (and on other family channels) due to safeguarding issues regarding minors on the YouTube platform. This boat was built in 1972 by Camper & Nicholsons, and she's crossed the Atlantic three times since then. She needs some work, as all old boats do, but she's got great bones and is looking for her new owner to bring her back to her glory days We really like her design, with the protected helm in the center cockpit, good engine location and access, and a sensible layout down below. At the current dirt cheap (in our opinion) asking price, we think she's a worthwhile project for someone looking for an old boat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Asking Price: $49,900 Broker info: Pier One Yacht Sales Bud Mueller 248-343-0599 239-332-7998 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Make sure you make an informed decision on your next boat with this tool: http://sailingsoulianis.com/shop/ltl-boat-buying-dashboard/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. This Skar SVR 10 with Dual 2 Ohm voice coils is replacing our Pioneer Champion Subwoofer that had a meltdown. We are reviewing this Skar Audio SVR subwoofer with a JL M600 amp. The music used in this video was all royalty-free, not the best bass tracks but it did make the subwoofer really move. Skar SVR 10 Link: https://amzn.to/2Gg0FsT Skar Audio RP-800.1DM 800 Watt Marine Subwoofer Amplifier: https://amzn.to/2RHApwK Weather Stripping Used To Seal Speaker: https://amzn.to/2RZRrqa Things we need to do to improve our sound will be to build a new box. Change our ports from going through the seat to just behind the seat and maybe use a vent for the Skar Audio SVR Subwoofer. We are either going to have to adjust the JL M600 out more or we may try the Skar Audio RP-800.1DM 800 Watt Marine Subwoofer Amplifier. The Skar Audio stamped steel basket featured on the SVR-10 utilizes an advanced air flow cooling system to help dissipate heat, enabling it to provide continuous reliable power. The SVR-10 is equipped with a double-stacked 153 oz ferrite motor, which delivers the driving force behind the ultra-responsive, breathtaking lows this subwoofer produces. Life on the Erie canal while sailing is full of surprises. We happened to be in Fairport for the Farmers Market and it was full of goodies from fresh produce to baked goods and plants. We then carried on down the Erie Canal to find Karen in Newark which warmly welcomed us to all the facilities and gave u tons of information. More locks down we stop in Montezuma National Wildlife Reserve to deal with some engine problems. Gathering the grown knees has ended up being quite the adventure. But in this episode, Steve tackles the biggest stump of them all. This one yielded quite a few good specimens that will be perfect in Arabella. Once all the knees were freed and once side was planed flat we needed to thickness them all and bring them to a fairly uniform size before oiling them and putting them away to season and dry until they are ready to be installed. Lucky for us Kathy and Paul, who also donated the Bridgeport and metal lathe to us, loaned us an alaskan chainsaw mill to get the job done. It was the perfect tool for this application and buzzed through all of the knees in short order. One task that went easier than expected! Not something that happens very often here. With this done, the plan was to get back to hanging planks so that we can get the last two oak planks on Arabella before leaving for Costa Rica next month. However, we were recently visited by the new building inspector in town who has voiced concerns about our plastic covering of the boathouse. In short, it sounds like we need to figure out a different more fire retardant option for the roof and we are going to replace the trusses with bow shed trusses to aid in shedding the winter snow as well as be able to handle the weight of the heavier membrane which will make up the new roof. With this massive undertaking, we are concerned about starting on a plank before we get the O.K. to do the roof so that we are not pausing the process mid hanging and chance the plank warping on us. So, the next few weeks will have to be played by ear... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Dazcat Catamaran 1195 Sueños makes a speedy and super comfortable cruising cat. In February 2018 Dazcat Media joined owner Rupert Kidd and his friend Alan for the passage back home - across from the Canary Islands , up the Portuguese and Spanish coasts and then across Biscay back to Falmouth. If you've ever wondered how comfortable a Dazcat actually is for cruising then this should answer a few of those questions. The family have been living on board for seven months and the passage is made with Sueños fully loaded with all the comforts of home. Rupert and Alan are very skilled and experienced sailors, long time friends and it was a real pleasure to sail with them. I hope you enjoy the gentle rhythm of life at sea with these two master seamen; how they deal with the inevitable minor dramas that occur and the ongoing maintenance that all cruisers need to do; how they dodge the Atlantic weather at that time of year; Rupert sharing his passion and knowledge for geology as well as pointing out the hazards and highlights along our route. There's plenty to enjoy here and for many plenty to learn as well. Sueños has been a regular on most of the local RORC and MOCRA races for the past eight years so it was a real pleasure to join her in full cruising mode.

Coppercoat Antifouling is the alternative to antifouling paint we applied after an extensive blister repair job renovating our old 1976 Valiant 40 Sailboat, and then choosing and applying bottom paint to prevent marine growth. We did NOT 100% follow the instructions for this Coppercoat Application, and had a few things go wrong. Will our Coppercoat application for antifouling be a total failure? Or will the Coppercoat succeed despite some changes during the application of the Coppercoat - an antifouling epoxy with copper powder in it? If it is successful, Coppercoat may relieve us of applying antifouling paint for a decade or more. We will review the following points about the application of Coppercoat in this video: 1: Why Coppercoat 2: Mistakes Applying Coppercoat 3: Complications during Coppercoat application and how we overcame them 4: Removing antifouling to Prepare surface for Coppercoat: https://youtu.be/2Myy37X4hG8 5: Blister Repair, and Applying Epoxy Resin barrier coat 6: Mixing the Coppercoat, including Adding Isopropyl Alcohol, copper powder and Coppercoat 7: Rolling on the Coppercoat (We did not spray Coppercoat) 8: Burnishing/Sanding the Coppercoat after application 9: Results from Coppercoat Application -Failure or Success? 10: Future review of Coppercoat We do hope our diy Coppercoat application will be successful, but it may just be a failure, another antifouling nightmare. Everyone we know with Coppercoat raves about it, but the negative videos we have seen go a long way to worry us about our own diy Coppercoat application...we hope our mistakes don’t prove to be a failure. Please feel free to contact us years from now if you are watching this video years after we have released it to ask us about it, and we will give you a reference to a later video, or send a personal email if we haven’t done one yet. We did the application of this Coppercoat Antifouling ourselves, with the help of some unskilled laborers off the street, as well as some semi-skilled and skilled laborers from Fleet Management at Zululand Yacht Club/Boatyard, always under the direction and supervision of Patrick Childress. Antifouling the hull of a sailboat successfully is a constant quest for us..one we may never find! We do believe we will have to continue scrubbing the bottom on a monthly basis to remove marine growth! Also, for those curious...the cost of Coppercoat. We had always thought it was a job that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Because we did it diy and hired some semi skilled laborers, it cost us under $2000 usd for everything, labor and materials...so not much more than a good quality antifouling paint. We would have tried it decades ago if we had known it has such potential for very long term protection! On this episode of Sailing on a Whim, there is a first time for everything and we certainly experience a lot of firsts! We sail from Florida to the Bahamas on our FIRST EVER ocean crossing and check into the Bahamas to start exploring! We also meet some amazing people that help us out and we are reminded that we have no idea what we are doing… One thing we know for sure? It is better in the Bahamas! Time to solve an important problem on our abandoned sailboat. After spending some months deciding what to do, how to solve the problem we finally came up with a plan; and that's what we talk about this week. If you are new here... we are a Brazilian couple that have just bought a 44ft hot galvanized steel sailboat (Dinieper Tropic 1200) and is on the mission of bringing her back to life after 22 years abandoned on the hard. Once we are done, the plan is to sail her to our home town Florianópolis so we can finish building our land base, a Tiny Shipping Container House that we are building ourselves without any prior experience. In this video, Sailing from Beaufort to Saint Agustine with DOLPHINS, we head into Beaufort NC to lick our wounds after our life threatenning experience at Cape Hatteras. There we stay at our first marina (Beaufort Docks) since leaving home and take advantage of their facilities before leaving for Charleston SC. We were spirited on by a playful school of dolphins who put on quite a show! We arrive in Charleston and celebrate Nawal's birthday, then leave for Florida only to have a second school of Bottlenose Dolphins greet us right at the boarder before arriving in Saint Augustine. Annual maintenance prior to heading back to Caribbean. Changing skin fittings, new dinghy, adding vinyl stripes, changing hoses and faucets... and much much more. Early October, following our 4 months break from the boat, we travelled from our home in Europe back to Cloudy Bay in the Chesapeake. Before setting off southwards we had quite a list of maintenance and upgrades to do, given we may not get another good chance before New Zealand. The list included vinyl covering the blue strips, changing thru-hulls and hoses, bottoms painting, propeller & bow thruster service and rebuilding the hydraulic sail furling motors. A lot of the tasks were buying more spare parts, a Sailrite sewing machine and of course the usual unexpected purchases like a new dinghy and a replacement PC. Likewise, on the maintenance there were several unplanned things like changing the galley faucet, which became a monumental task for something so simple. And finally, food stocking up for our journey to Panama. It ended up taking us 6 very full weeks before we finally bid farewell to our Herrington friends, just as winter weather arrived. 11 Oct - 20 Nov 2019

We've been busting stump to get the knees freed but that doesn't mean the battle is over. We still have many more to go and once they are freed, they still need to be sized and thicknessed. The good news is, we only need to rough them out right now so that they are an appropriate size and thickness to be able to season and dry a little bit before we have to give them their final shape and instal the in Arabella. With that, we probably should also talk about where these are going to go in the construction process and what their purposes really are. Knees grow in such a way that they grain follows the curve of the roots going out away from the tree. This creates a natural buttress which is extremely strong. We can use these buttresses to tie in sections of the boat, mainly the decking to the framing as well as the port and starboard sides of the boat with the breasthooks. Finally, after all that work, we decided to take a day and go out to visit a near legendary boat shop on Martha's Vineyard. Gannon and Benjamin in Vineyard Haven. A great open shop day with excellent people! Some friends had mentioned that the Erie Canal was shallow in some sections and we quickly realized that. We keep running aground on the Erie Canal. How many times can you count? Propulsion system statistics of the DIY efoil. At full throttle the motor is doing 20,000 rpm, that's 333 turns per second! Motor rpm is reduced with a planetary gearbox down to 4000rpm for the propeller, while the torque output is around 9.5nm at full speed. The prop torque can go up to 11.25n.m while rpm can go up to 5000 (25000 rpm, 2.25nm at motor) more speed is possible with a higher voltage battery!

Proceeds from this video will be donated to the Coral Reef Alliance. Donations can also be made directly by visiting their website: http://www.coral.org Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL (The Coral Reef Alliance) comes from contributions by: Soylent - Healthy provisioning for the long offshore passages Sta Lok - Swage-less terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it an easy DIY job and allowing for easy inspection Victron Energy - Providing monitoring solutions for Tarka's batteries, to ensure we always have enough juice to do what we need to. === Music credits: Dance With Me – Ehrling: https://soundcloud.com/ehrling

In this Sailing Bluefin episode we show you how to use vht vinyl dye to repaint your boat seats! This is a fantastic DIY way to revamp your outdoor vinyl marine upholstery, instead of going through the trouble of re-upholstering your seat backs or cushions. Vht vinyl dye is really easy to use and doesn't break the budget. For this seat back we used 2 cans of vht vinyl dye and did 3 coats of dye overall. We were so happy with the result, we thought we had to share this with the sailing community out there. So please let us know what you think in the comments!
