Sun 10/10/2010 York, Pa #3 Trenis and the BYC Red Raiders avenged last years playoff loss to EYC with a blow out win today. Every two weeks it seems he goes for 3 TD's, and today was no different. He was 2 for 3 in passing. The coach is having fun with it, running out of the Wildcat formation, I-formation, 3 Receiver Sets. Very enjoyable to say the least. EYC is a very talented team. EYC has a good defense, they play angles better then any team we have faced so far. I was impressed, they just were not prepared for the wildcat, that was kinda the difference. It was a close game going into the 3rd Quarter, until Trenis ran wild for his 3rd TD of the day on a long 70 yard run down the sideline, looking like Vince Young Wow, this kid did his thing today, a complete game finally. I've been waiting for him to come alive a whole game, and he finally did. Big ups to you #3. Boy do these little guys block. #1 Qualeem put a block on a kid today, more like ran a kid over. These kids are laying out their competitor's each game better than they did the last. #11 Clovis laid out a kid as well. These two kids are battling to be the hardest hitting 9 year old's in York County. Watch'em YouTube's favorite running back #5....hold onto the ball, what a great run that was, you broke like 5 or 6 tackles. #11... Come on kid you know you run faster than that. You like stiff arming kids huh, this kid #11 slows down just to put a stiff arm on someone. Good game today he had the longest run of his careerr. Way to follow your blockers.

Sun 10/24/2010 BYC battled to a tie against North East York County Sunday afternoon, once again having to comeback against a team that brought the best out of our little Rink Team. I was in search this evening for my true feelings involving the game ending in a tie, and I am pleased to say, I see no one glaring gaps in the play of our little ones. Today there was 2 Touchdowns called back against BYC #3 made it around the corner and took off on a 50 or 60 yard run that was called back on a holding penalty. The second half kickoff return by #1 was called back on a blocking in the back penalty. There was a Personal Foul Penalty for 15 yards after a 1st down run by #1 Trenis, on top of a holding penalty. There was a neutral zone infraction on a 4th and 1. You have kids waiting on other kids to make tackles and slowing down, or taking the wrong angles instead of playing the play through. I like it! Yes I do. The reason is, is that it can all be corrected. Are there any captains on the team, or does everyone get a chance? The kids need to know the game plan and gain respect for the position they play, football is a team sport and I see kids trying to do to much instead of there job for there team. Everyone's job is as important as the other, Trenis and Qualeem get no Touchdowns if someone that is suppose to block doesn't block or doesn't hold back and gets a penalty that costs the whole team. Football is a great game, because you must be smart...not just talented. A smart team can beat a more talented team. Coach's, I love and hate what they are doing. They are getting better in what they do on the offensive side of the ball. The passing was better, needs to get better, but it was most definitely a part of the game this week, We already made the playoff's, so what we do now is in prep for our playoff run. We kinda lwft this game feeling a little cheated. 2 Touchdowns were called back, and what would of and should have been a blow out win, ended in a Tie. Nick Voss has climbed up the ranks of Snipe sailing quickly over the past few years. At Annapolis he won a place on next year's Snipe Worlds in Denmark. He finished in 8th place at the Snipe Worlds in San Diego last year. When Nick talks about what it takes to make a Snipe go fast, people listen to what he's saying. One of the hallmarks of Snipe sailing in the US is that the leaders in the fleet spend a huge amount of time and energy working with all the competitors to make them go faster. Nick's got quite a bit to say about why collegiate sailors should think about a Snipe when they graduate -- both the price of getting and campaigning a boat and the quality of the racing that's available make the Snipe a compelling choice. Of course Nick comes from a strong Snipe background. His parents won the Wells division at this year's Nationals.

Over 60 boats came to Annapolis this summer to sail the Snipe US Nationals. One thing that stood out was how many young people were racing this year. It wasn't just the 20 something teams, of which there were a bunch. It was also the parents sailing with their kids. Maybe it was the light air venue but I think it was the harbinger of a resurgence of good one design racing in a boat that can be sailed competitively by young and old. The US Snipe Class has been working hard to get younger sailors to experience the boat for the past 10 years. From the looks of the turnout at this regatta, they have succeeded. The competition for winning the Heinzerling trophy got a whole lot more heated this year. When it came time to add up the points, two of the top five teams were younger Snipers and one of the others was a women's team. All five of those teams qualified for the Snipe Worlds next year in Denmark and that team harks back to the early days of Snipe sailing when younger Snipers made up the vast bulk of the Class.

Don Hackbarth moved with his family to Atlanta in 1984 where he was drawn to the competitive strength of the Snipe fleet. Don knows firsthand that in order to be effective on the water in this tactical one-design boat you have to have command of 'sail trim, tactics and strategy on the water.' A long time advocate for the class and US National Secretary he sees the future of the class in getting young people into the boat for a hands on experience and a great foundation for a lifetime of sailing.
