The anchor onboard Sailing Vessel Bye Felicia is in need of upgrades. This week we work to upgrade the anchor's swivel and shackle, on both anchors. We also measure the main anchor chain, and paint marks indicating specific lengths. A test run of the windless was required prior to leaving the dock. When Jane leaves me alone on the boat the result is destruction! So on Friday the whole forecabin got ripped out to prepare the way for fitting our windlass on deck, a new chain locker, new water tank, emergency watertight compartment, new single bunk and storage. In coming weeks we will be transforming this cabin as preparation of our 45 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). All the rigging is being replaced with Dyneema and we are significantly re-working the cabins. Reasons to buy a RACE BOAT for a CRUISING HOME A lot of people are curious as to why we chose a race boat for a family cruiser. They've been asking us things like what it’s like to sail, whether we can manage it just the two of us, how she behaves on a passage, what the costs are like.
