Für das WIRSOL TEAM GERMANY KIEL.SAILING CITY wurde eine junge All-Star-Mannschaft mit den besten Multihull-Seglern Deutschlands verpflichtet. Skipper ist Roland Gäbler, der auf zahlreiche Erfolge bei Olympischen Spielen, Welt- und Europameisterschaften zurückblickt. Das Steuer übernimmt der 24 Jahre junge Tino Mittelmeier, der bereits Junioren-Welt- und Junioren-Europameister-Titel erkämpfte und der jüngste Steuermann der iShares-Serie ist. Nico Mittelmeier (27 Jahre) und Gunnar Struckmann (27 Jahre) komplettieren das junge deutsche Team. Der iShares-Cup der Extreme-40-Katamare ist eine internationale Segelregatta, die in diesem Jahr zum dritten Mal stattfindet. Nach Venedig, Hyères und Cowes wird das beeindruckende Schauspiel bereits zum zweiten Mal in der schleswig-holsteinischen Landeshauptstadt Station machen, die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer im vergangenen Jahr mit ihren Bedingungen begeisterte und von Extreme-40-Steuerfrau Shirley Robertson als „beste Etappe 2008 gelobt wurde.

The Great Bahama Bank stretches for hundreds of miles. We were sailing up from the Caribbean and came from Crooked Acklins Island over to the tip of Long Island, then onto the Bank. It was 40 miles to Georgetown most of it very shallow water over perfect sand. We sailed all day in water barely 6-10 feet deep like a giant swimming pool. Once when it got less than 5 feet deep I jumped overboard to see how close our keel was to the sand.

The medal races of the 470 Class World Championships 2009 took place on the 29th of August. Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic (CRO) win the title in the men's 470, Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout in the women's 470.

This was our first time beaching the boat. We stayed overnight on the sandbank and next day pulled off with the rising tide using our Fortress stern anchor.

There's a lot of new emerging talent in the class. A number of younger sailors, with relatively little 505 experience are knocking on the door of the top 10. There's still one day left, but the competition is for the trophy is down to two, the same two that fought it out last week in the StFYC 505 North Americans -- Mike Holt/Carl Smit & Mike Martin/Jeff Nelson.

Everyone came expecting big breeze and that's exactly what they've found sailing on the Berkeley Circle in this warm up to the 2009 SAP 505 World Championship. Its clear that there's a lot of talent in this class and its going to take every bit of their skill to get the job done and hold up the trophy as World Champion for 2009.
